Speculation Chad Warner

He's uncontracted.Sydney are hardly in a position to demand anything more than a fair deal.
The question is, what does a fair deal look like?

If Warner was in the 2025 draft, where would he be selected?

Before or after Dyson Sharp, who’s considered the early favourite for pick 1.

Common sense says hawks wouldn't trade pick 14 last trade period but they did and they added to their draft hand

Geelong hawks essendon and Port would do it .

If chad picks us and our pick offer is better than anything freo can offer why not?

We play mr nice guy at the detriment of the quality of the list .

Sydney get enough of a leg up from the afl so I wouldn't care . They will be a top team again next season and they already get access to a top 5 pick .
How so?

None of their academy kids are rated a potential top 5 prospect.

Top 10 maybe.

But if the Hawks pick balloons out to 15+ on draft night, then another team is much more likely to bid on their top prospect.

Very similar situation to Essendon and Kako this year.

Those numbers were just an example of how contracts are smoothed out, not for one second suggesting that’s what the player is on.

Yeah sure

And your example of smoothing out is just one way of smoothing out. It's not how Bolton's contract was smoothed out

Can you prove that?

Was it ever reported that way?

No player in the history of the AFL has ever smoothed out their contract by adding an extra year, and not taken more money.

That's great then !

If none of their academy players are potentially top 10 picks then we just hope hawks don't make finals

I've already explained myself as it was straight from a freo officials mouth.

Do you know every contract in the afl?

How was it smoothed out?
He recons what Bolton was owed by Richmond 1.2mil x 4 years was smoothed to 5 years after traded to freo .

I said he was dreaming

He said a friend of a friend on the freo board has a connection to Fremantle list management told them .

Honestly it sounds funnier every time it is bought up

Yeah that’s rubbish. Anyone happy to work a year for free?

Didn’t think so.

Yeah just sounds like massive cope .

I don't understand why . If guys like peatling and perryman are on 850-900k the Bolton is worth 1.2mil .

Feel we would pay 1.2- 1.5mil a year for warner .

We should be able to front load so the last few years are only 1 million

Yep. It wouldn’t surprise me if Warner is offered $4m over the first two years then back to $1m/year for four years.

His mate's mate got to see the contract ;)

No player takes a $200k paycut specially when they have 3 teams wanting him and 2 are in the state he wants to get to
I think the 4 year contract is honored and an additional year added at as you mentioned 20% less

But cant believe Freo couldnt get Blair to pay some of that , Brilliant from Blair

My friend at Richmond told me Lynch also took a 25% cut in his last 2 years because he felt as though Richmond were not getting full value due to his injuries

What you think should i believe him ?

Would warner be worth more than Jackson a couple of years ago ?

Wasn't jackson the second coming of hybrid tall ruck midfielders and previous top 3 pick

As I’ve previously posted, we poached the wrong bloke. Absolutely right to stand his ground and say we’re not paying a cent if teams come after our contracted players.

Don’t think we’ll ever see a better trade period than that from a list manager, just a shame it was in part at our expense. If only the recruiters had nailed the draft. Acquiring Bolton was a good get for Freo, but put a line through Chad.

Don't think this is true. Freo chased Gulden, McDonald, Cumming, and Baker, and will more than likely continue their pre-existing chases of Warner and Pickett. For a team to be chasing that many players, I doubt they're in a position where Shai alone caps them out, regardless of what people debate his contract to be (side note: bit of a pointless debate you'd think - surely the lowest vs highest estimates can't differ by more than the average draftee's salary).

Collingwood just added 2 mil worth of players, have no 2025 1sts, are still paying blokes at other clubs, and Twomey's still talking about Matt Rowell to Collingwood. When it comes to the stars, you figure it out.

For the record I do think more likely we miss out on Chad. But much like how we threw the kitchen sink at Baker and nothing came of it, if we miss out on Chad it won't be because "we didn't really want him" (you'll probably find some Freo fans use that as copium if we miss on Chad, which is silly: every team misses more players than they snag). I just think Chad will want to be a superstar for the next decade, and the path to that is way easier at clubs that didn't have 3 inside mids 25 or younger make AA squad.

I don't think shai caps you out but youngs new long term contract and what you end up paying to keep brayshaw will make things tight.

Also 2mil a year on rucks + Tracey long term contract

You would cap yourself out by making Chad Warner your highest paid player when you got guys like Serong/Brayshaw/Young/Treacy around. Not sure Serong/Brayshaw would like being on 600k per year less then Warner

Eagles dont really have this problem. If Kelly/Yeo/Allen and co have a issue with Warner on 1.5 mill a year ill personally pack their bags for them

Most of these events happened before we chased all the players I mentioned, and the remainder of them Freo would've anticipated while chasing them. You would have to believe that Freo did all that while thinking Brayshaw is secretly one of those Nigerian footballers that's actually 32 while publicly saying he's 25.

When salary details aren't publicly available, you have to judge on behaviour. Anything else is guesswork. If you're off by an average of 25k per player, all of a sudden that's the difference btwn being able to afford a star player and being capped out.

Has brayshaw signed on again ?

Thought he was going to reveal it on Christmas day or some shit .

I feel the difference with what freo want to sign him for and what other teams are offering him is a huge gap .

His manager wouldn't be doing his job unless he gets maximum market value .

It will be his last big contract

Clubs will be offering brayshaw more than we offer warner for the pure fact he is a free agent and won't have to use draft picks

Wouldn't surprise me if teams like essendon norf and saints offer brayshaw 1.5-1.8mil a season if they get him as a free agent
