After a great effort by our under manned dogs against the pies. Hard to say how many changes everyone had a crack but it was really only Libba, Sam. Red, Fridge and Lobb with solid contributions from Dale, Truck and Buku that kept us in the game. So, from that angle there could be a number of changes. We possibly get Jones back and maybe JOD and Cleary. The 2's are pretty thin with injuries and not sure any of Hynes, Croft or Kennedy ready.

Outs Baker and Sanders
Ins Jones if fit, Poulter (Arty Sub)

Gallagher taking on more of a defensive role rather then rebounder.
Khamis wasn't bad by any means but if both JOD and Jones are good to go then he makes way. I'd like Khamis to focus on killing in coming balls rather then just spoiling to the front of packs.
Sanders also needs to go back to the twos and refine his game. Focusing on trusting his game, driving his legs out of Stoppage and not relying on his hands so much.
Duryea has been well off the pace the first fortnight and should make way. I called time on him prematurely in 2023 before he found form again last year so I won't go that far again.

FB. Gags Lobb L.Jones
HB. Dale JOD Bramble
C. Davidson Libba Williams
HF. West Naughton Croft
FF. McNeil Darcy VDM
R. English Kennedy Richards
INT. A.Jones Harmes Freijah Baker
SUB. Dolan

Ins: Jones, JOD, Hynes

Out: Baker, Arty, Dolan

Height and versatility for a bit of leg speed.

Dolan has heaps of upside, but not quite ready. Arty and Baker not quite good enough.

Buku was great on Friday night and is more suited to 3rd tall defender, but I think he can play as a 3rd tall in the forward line if Jones and JOD come in.

Hynes looks a good hybrid option too.

Buss and Croft are really close. Maybe Buss gets his chance next week v Freo in Perth.

You dropping Khamis after his game on Friday ?
No chance he is getting dropped.
Arty, Baker, Dolan were invisible.
This is awful selection.

I’d give Dolan a spell. Has been two pretty hard games (rd 1 in the heat and last week).

Tentative to bring Jones in after a soft tissue at the ripe old age of 34. Can Bont come in on one leg?

Whilst khamis would be unlucky JOD and Jones are better if fit. Khamis did get his fist to alot of balls but he also dropped them right infront of the contest where a forward was waiting. Baker was Indifferent but he came on under fire. I'd persist with Arty and Dolan until weightman is back or a small forces them out, at this stage we have no one else.

Lobb has been epic in defence but is there any world where we making him #1 ruck when Jones & JOD are back?
No.

There’s actually zero evidence the coaching staff are actually unhappy with English as a ruckman, despite how poor he has been.

Lobb is now able to control the backline and is a critical part of how we can defend the entire ground. It would be a comically bad decision.

I agree we lose some leg speed, but Arty, Dolan and Baker just don’t impact enough. No point in having speed if you don’t use it.

I really feel like we need another marking target forward of the ball, particularly if Naughton spends some time in the ruck.
JUH is a waste of breath, so Khamis or JOD forward and the other back as 3rd tall defender balances the team in my view.

Cleary to take over the Duryea role when he is available.

I agree cleary should be the one to get a crack at the Duryea role. Hopefully he is back soon.
Croft is the one to come in up forward. Khamis and JOD just aren't forwards and have shown it many times when forced to play there, they should be in defence or not in at all in my opinion.

That’s a really balanced team. I like Croft coming in. He is really fast and will add something and keeps a dangerous structure.

Khamis unlucky - potentially play him in front of Croft for now (though not for long if Croft keeps kicking four goals in the VFL).

I am big fan of Artie and like Baker but they didn’t have a great game. Artie worked hard which may hold him but needs to be more impactful.

Copper Hynes could also get a go - apparently played well in VFL and covers a lot of ground but sounds a bit like he sits between Davidson and Kennedy - so not an obvious space yet. But I am still not convinced about McNeil - he just doesn’t do enough - kicked a goal but for most of the game don’t do anything. He is quick but that doesn’t matter if he is not putting people under pressure or breaking lines. And so would try Hynes or Poulter.

Gotta win this one. Last weeks heart means nothing if we don’t win the games we should like this one. Carlton will come out hard with the threat of 0-3 looming. Their three games after ours (Pies, Eagles, North) are no guarantees anymore.

Yes, could not agree more just ask the dees an honourable loss against GWS means nothing after today.

I’d be keeping Sanders, he’s grown into the game both times and looked good towards the end. He needs to develop in his game in the 1s without Bont and Treloar in.

Duryea gets one more week to prove it.

Arty hasn’t shown much at all and ineffective on the wing. Baker to take his place, Dolan to sub.

See what happens to JOD but at this stage

Out - A.Jones
In - L.Jones

Thought Poulter was very good last night and his ball use a cut above.

I prefer him ahead of Arty and Baker. Arty didn’t take his chance and is too light bodied around the contest. Baker’s not a bad sub with his speed.

Are we still a small defender short with Cleary out? Especially if we drop Doc?

I feel we were one small defender too many. Whether those defenders can actually defend is another issue though. If Doc makes way we will be relying on Bramble and Gags to man Motlop and and Williams.
