I'm pretty sure the club and more importantly the players have given him the support he needs. The club may have kept him away from the club, in order to protect him from the media, as he may have told the club he is struggling at the moment.
Also considering he has been hounded, talked about constantly in a negative light and then to ridiculed about his ADHD, whilst basically been told just what a horrible person he is, in all forms of the media for 5 straight days, l could imagine mentally, he would be absolutely struggling. Hopefully he can get over this, and return to the field ASAP, but l think he could be out of the side for awhile yet.....

I'd like to believe that first line, but from what we've seen publically, the club has backed the media interpretations on both instagate and tik tok gate. And quite frankly private support isn't enough when the matter is public ridicule that is ongoing.

Maynard is the man for Toby Greene. Can go with him physically and won’t get sucked in by the swagger.

IQ plays his best footy when he has license to run and create. We asked him to play man on man defender in several games last year and I can’t think of one where he came out on top. He sacrifices too much of his game.

No more Browns.
Enough.
Can we move forward please?
Anyone who’s a part of the future.

I feel for Jordy.
Tough run on the back of having done nothing wrong except be dumb.
I do feel he needs face the public and media. Get through that storm, because it will keep feeding off this train wreck until he does.

I realise the mental health issues, but I can’t help but feel that finding the resolve to play and play well is what Jordy should do to pay back to his teammates for the shitstorm he created.

Disappointing that the club has had zero push back to the media. We should be protecting our players on and off field.

And this now becomes an us against them season defining game.
Win and we beat the world.
Loose and we risk a promising season tumbling.

I can't believe people are still blaming the media for this. You can't stop the media reporting. It's called freedom of speech, there's a law against. the club hasn't backed the media, they've backed the AFL. If we didn't act, the AFL were ready to step in anyway. Right or wrong, the video was sent to the media who then excercised their freedom of speech and reported it.

Because the club is piss week. It took them 5 days to come out and say anything so they let the narrative be controlled by the media. Should have come out and supported him on Saturday morning. It’s what Ed would have done

You know what DED.
This is what is bothering me the most.
I hope you are right but from what I can see the club has not supported him at all and nor have the players.

The club has forced him to apologise. Not for being a bit silly but for disrespect for women. Disrespect for a woman that he had mutually been flirting with. A woman that came out and said 'nothing to see here'

This is not support from the club.

As for the players.

Which player has given him support.

Hell forget JDG which player came out and supported IQ and Ginny.

None.

What has our captain or our president or our coach have to say.

Crickets.

I can't see any support whatsoever.

Side by side.

I don't think so.

I'm not a Mongrel Punt member, so I can't see the full article, but the title gives a good idea where the author stands:

De Goey is a bonehead. He plays for Collingwood. Those are his two sins. When the disgusting animals who have publicly crucified him have driven him to suicide, and that is where this is heading, how many will own up to their culpability? They will find someone else to blame, and sanctimoniously bemoan the lack of mental health support for players.

Selection tonight will be very interesting.

I’d assumed it would be no change until the DeGoey situation. Who the 4 in’s are for the DeGoey out is intriguing. Do we stick tried and tested (and struggled) with a pair of Brown’s and a Bianco or do we see something different like a Johnson or Carmichael?

Ginnivan and Quaynor probably should have been given the chance to apologise themselves. I agree a little bit of education is right - a common TikTok trend isn't necessarily okay, regardless of how many people are doing it. But given its widespread popularity and first time offence, to persecute them that heavily is a bit harsh and not very considerate. If I were a coach and a new batch of draftees came in, I'd be doing a social media education camp from the start and telling them to switch their account they had as a teen to private, change the username and start afresh so people can't arm themselves with weaponry. A dumb comment at age 14 really shouldn't be punished as if it were now but the media will call for blood.

He stands on the side of reporting facts and not jumping to conclusions to generate immediate clicks/follows, which sadly seems to be the nature of footy journalism at the moment..

In short, it is more a condemnation on the AFL Media's "gotta be first" nature of reporting and (maybe) adding pertinent details later. Same goes for former players who conveniently forget their own transgressions to attack someone else.

Cheers

Mental health support should always be proactive, not responding after the fact. If a player does commit suicide, there is going to need to be a lot of support given to players at that club and the wider industry. Some blokes can handle the criticism but for others it cuts deep. You never know what some of the players went through as kids and you can be assured there are bullying victims, men not coping with sexuality, men who lived a tough life, men with addictions and men with behavioural issues. Autism, ADHD and depression are three conditions that would not be uncommon at AFL clubs (and wider society for that matter). No amount of psychological help is going to be enough if you keep getting hit. As the media, they have to report the truth and players should be criticised, but there's a way to do it. You attack their game or decision, not them as a person unless they're found guilty for murder or a serious felony.

I don't think the support from players, coaches or any staff needs to be paraded in front of cameras, and discussed in the media by the club.
We have absolutely no idea what the club, players are doing behind the scenes with Jordy. Not forgetting the support they have given him in the past.
I would very surprised that he is not getting the support and welfare required at this stage from those at the club....

Pretty sure the club was waiting for Jordy to return from Bali, speak to him and get all the facts of the video footage, before making any comments. If the club wanted to get their teeth into the matter straight away, they could’ve demanded Jordy return from Bali immediately.
Pretty sure on the Friday, the club did support Jordy being in Bali, saying they had no issue with him travelling there, and supporting his overseas trip....

No one is arguing against the media’s right to publish the story.
It’s the blatant hypocrisy and paternalistic stance that’s galling.
The woman said “ nothing to see here”, and that should have been the end of it.

Great post - Bailey Smiths mental issues curtailed media scrutiny on his incident. But no such respect of JDG given his ADHD admission with more hysteria on page 9 of the HS today.

This trial by media could have grave consequences as you suggest.
But let’s hope the Club is doing all it can to support Jordy.

Yes, that's true but other ban the media from the club, there's nothing anyone can do about it. The media's job is to report and create discussion, they are certainly doing that. Blokes like Robbo and Ralph just add their POV and that creates more discussion, it's called Democracy. As soon as you take away the media's right to freedom of speech by banning them, it just creates a precedent for other Organisations and Governments to jump on board and then we no longer are a democracy. People should just get over it and stop giving the Media what it want's

How do you suggest the Club “stops giving the media what it wants”?
