Would love to see N.Daicos play full time mid this week.
Considering the state of the opposition side this might be the opportunity to give him more mid time but he's the ultimate link man and shouldn't be chained to a single position.

I'd like to see him eventually be given a roving commission between the arcs.

So where do we think Carmichael will play? HFF/rotating mid?

(I haven't seen much of the VFL so unsure what his positioning has been like)
Played in the middle rotating forward in match sim. Basically the role de goey has.

depends who is lining up at HB. Afl app has crisp. But it could be Nick.
Nick plays a pretty loose role. North are more likely to assign a player to him than anything.

If anyone thinks I'm trolling, I'm really not. JDG is overrated. Carmichael is a good player. I am frustrated of seeing JDG go AWOL when other players of his calibre are starring. JDG's best is the best but you see it nowhere near as much as other players. If Carmichael is a spud at AFL, I'll retract the comments but I see a lot in the kid.

You said Carmichael had done more than De Goey. You said it was another reason to trade De Goey when there was a rumour he had a tight calf. I don't care that you want to trade De Goey and "just don't like him" but you're coming up with some pretty outlandish shit to support the position and you're filling up every second thread with posts about it. It's tedious.

I think Kelly leaves at the end of the season. Talented, but never got a chance to show us what he is. Three players at a minimum have to leave, but I suspect more. Could be four or five. We may have a retirement and a trade/FA leave but someone will be delisted and right now, Kelly looks vulnerable and so does Cal Brown.
If Kelly gets dumped then I can’t agree it’s due to lack of opportunity.
He has failed to impact continually in the VFL, and his disinterested style and lack of urgency has not helped his cause. The later is very unfortunate as I had high hopes given his athleticism.
But all that said, he has shown much better application in the last few weeks and I’m hopeful continued improvement will save him.

Or you could have just as easily said 20 disposals one goal and have blonde hair.

Absurd. Cherrypicking stats to make his season seem better than it actually has been.
I’ve had my differences with Apex36, but he is on the mark here- your dislike of JDG has clouded your objectivity.

Okie dokie time to do my last defence of this before I give up.

Carmichael's output in the VFL has been to a much higher standard than De Goey's more recent form in the AFL. New team, new game plan, new everything and Carmichael is still one of the BOGs for three straight weeks. Let me make it clear that De Goey is good but not eye-catching. He's rarely named in the best and hasn't been for a while. De Goey is not a bad player but it's frustrating to see games that could be more. He wins the clearance 5-6 times a match (we're still beaten there) and that's it. His metres gained are on par with the rest of the team, his goal kicking has been attrocious. He's not a star midfielder and he's not a star forward - he's neither.

For Carmichael's salary, he is showing a lot more. De Goey has talent but he is not showing it. We are not seeing the elite midfielder worth $800k. At the moment, he's a $600k player at best. If GWS are paying Taranto $450k, who I have proven has better and more elite stats than De Goey, then his worth is about that. If I use AFL Fantasy as a metric of De Goey's impact as that takes into account a lot of different statistics, De Goey is above average at 79 points (I rounded up for the sake of the argument). Taranto is averaging 97. If we further add in other FWD/MIDs like De Goey, his average is low. He'll have games where he is 110+ and elite. But he'll also have games where he is 60 odd. Or last week, where he was below 40. It's sad when Mason Cox beats you in stats that aren't hitouts. Jack Ginnivan is better at forward than him and Lippa is better at mid from what we've seen on field with stats. He's been given full games in the middle, and played mostly forward and he's just been on par with the team with a much bigger plateau than the rest.

Carmichael has been a solid 90+ in the VFL. Sure, it's easier, but if the kid couldn't play, he wouldn't be racking up those numbers each week. If De Goey wasn't a Pie, you and a lot of other fans would laugh at him. I can continue this rant about his mediocracy if you wish because once you start looking, you see it. He has impact on the contest? Sometimes. Sometimes. At the start of the year, he was on fire. I'll give him that. But not anymore. He's playing full-time midfield and not being the star. He's on par with Lipinski in more recent times. Who has been more consistent and might be on about $300-500k. That's where he's at.

This season, he's averaged about 20 disposals. But they're not the most impactful and as I keep saying, it's not 20 on a consistent basis. And 20 screams average. It's not special to have 20-23 touches in a game even if you're a forward/mid. He's playing largely out of the square or in places where he can touch it more and people do touch it more. There's a reason why in all his years he's never been selected for the AA22 - HE'S AVERAGE. 2018 was his best year and that's the only time he's come close to a jacket. He won't get one this year because he's not elite.

There is a difference but 24 disposals and 90+ AFL fantasy each week says something about the calibre of the player. Moreover, De Goey's salary is far greater than Carmichael's so you'd expect that. Carmichael has been doing a lot and showing a lot. It's hard to ignore. De Goey doesn't scream star at the moment. His past few performances have been average performances.

Another reason to trade De Goey is his injury history. What is it this time? Quads, calves, hamstrings, fingers from dogs, pub fights and game time - the list is never ending.

No, I don't like De Goey. I gave him a chance in 2018 but to be honest, he should've gone to North. He has an ability only JDG has to find himself in positions that no other player can find themselves in.

If Carmichael has a Chugg-esque debut, happy to say I'm wrong. If he doesn't show much, I'll apologise. Jordy is above average at best!

BF probably thinks I'm dumb for saying this but I'm just pointing out JDG is an AFL player who is above average that you'd find on most other AFL lists without the impressive list of incidents. Carmichael in his VFL games has really shown some grit and been consistently among the best. VFL is easier than AFL but he's played SANFL, too. I just see a lot in the kid. De Goey has talent and he has more than Carmichael but he has not shown it beyond 2018 and maybe the end of 2021. But that's it. He could be a Martin but he is a Jordan De-Slightly-Better-Than-Average-Could-Should-Would-Be-A-Legend-Not-Hall-of-Famer-Bloggs who won't be a generational player.

End of rant.

My point is - just how many 'stars' are truly necessary in a side?

Not as many as most think.
Geelong 2008, 2020 and 2021, and Collingwood 2011 are proof stars are no guarantee of success.

As I once read in a choose-your-own adventure AFL story, "A champion team will always beat a team of champions".

I'll add the 1958 Demons side to that - bursting with truly talented champions they won the '56 and '57 flags in a canter but when they faced up to the middle of the pack Pies side in '58 they met their match.

Those boys got in those champions faces and they never gave them a second's peace.

Talent will take you only so far and in a GF it's so often the side that is prepared to bleed for the flag that prevails.

Put Jordy in the midfield VFL and he’d be getting 35-40 disposals and kicking goals to boot. This is just a pointless nonsensical rant.

You received a like from jonbe. That should be a red flag for you if you haven’t worked it out.

Anyone else heard that Darcy Cameron left training early with some issue and could be a late out?

I respect what he has to say. You should to. You love coming on here and clashing horns with people. I've just pointed out what an average player JDG is and people are still laughing at it. Find me proof that Jordy is elite but don't cherry pick the stats. I've said Carmichael is strong and consistent at VFL and is showing he can play.

I'm happy to admit I was wrong after the North match, too.
