Are teams back to normal as being named on Thursdays now?
Unfortunately not they were planning to go back to that for this week considering it's a more traditional format round but decided to stick with naming teams the night before

Sounds like all of English, JJ, Bruce, Croizer & Vandermeer will be available for selection.

Will make for interesting team selection given all are probably in our best 22, coming off a big win.

we can't forget Suckling.

Even Bevo mentioned him as one of the players missing recently.

I think its still worth persisting with him in the high half forward role. As long as some other forwards really improve with the pressure game. If that doesn't work he can drift through defense and the wing roles no worries.

I have a feeling the club will go all out... we will want to have an experienced team leading up to the Geelong and West Coast game.

IN: Suckling, JJ, Bruce, Crozier, Vandermeer (565 games experience)

Out: R.Smith, West, Lloyd, Cavara, Gardner (122 games experience)

bet result = + 443 games experience heading into the crunch part of the season... Go dogs!

Suckling needs a scratch match imo. Especially with his age and his hammys.

Keep Cavarra. Deserves another shot. Him and Vandermeer add the forward line pace we need.

My guesses are

Ins
JJ, Crozier, Vandermeer, Bruce

Outs
R.Smith, West, LLoyd, Lipinski

Going by recent history Lipinski or McLean will be dropped again. They don't deserve to but the squeeze will happen.
Gardiner won't be. Don't think we go in with one key defender.

I'd keep Roarke over Gardy...stuff the height difference
I could definitely be wrong, but I didn't see Roarke lose a single 1v1 all game, and he had some pretty high impact plays including spoiling the ball when outnumbered and getting into a Dogs player's hands. I don't think he'll ever be a best 22 player, but I'm happy having him as a depth defender

I don't rate him, but I rate him a lot higher than Gardy

It would be a interesting call to keep in 2 Gamer Cavarra over someone like Lipinksi (who is underrated for his score assistance ability)

Mark my words, the club is doing all they can to get the kids from the 16 (lipinski + English), 17 (Richards + Naughton) and 18 draft (Smith and Vandermeer) into that 50 games plus experience region ASAP. We will be much better for it, since all those kids mentioned have very high ceilings.

I tend to agree with Gardner, i think we need him for structure.. but with Crozier coming in i'm not too sure we need him against melbourne.

I would too, but the club is desperate for that pressure forward. Lipinski isn't that type of player. I think they will give Cavarra a decent shot at trying to nail down that position.

Lipinski or McLean could get super unlucky. And obviously if we could I'd simply remove gardiner and play one key defender but I'm a huge believer in the 5 tall structure across the park.

I tend to agree yes we need to give Cavarra a good shot at it. He has the potential to really help us.

So with that in mind i think your right - give Suckling one more week.

We wil be a quick side this week having all of JJ, Vandermeer, B. Smith, Richards and Cavarra in the side :)

I wouldn't describe Lipinski's ceiling as "very high". Vandermeer has already gone past himin about 10 games. Not sure about Richards either but I have higher expectations of him than I have of Lipinski.

No argument with Lipinski getting a game most weeks. He's thereabouts, and on his day can be handy.

Do we though? I'm not sure that in the contests he actually gets to he provides a worthwhile contest. He didn't have as many clanger last week but he also seemed to have as much direction as a cork in the ocean and looked to be nowhere near where he needed to be many times. I could be wrong.

English did not look 100% at training today. Touch and go I reckon if he plays it will be big risk to go with one ruckman but who knows with our MC. Sweet may still debut but Bevo's lips are sealed.

I like Lippi's skill and all that but you can just sense in a final he'd be the guy with 3 possessions and little impact.

Vandermeer, on the other hand, you sense will be rolling around in it like a pig in sh1t and will have 15 very worthwhile possessions and get in several peoples faces.

Lipinski has certainly been up and down with his impact on the team. This is very much a common problem with players before they hit the 50 game eperience mark.

BUT we have seen what he is capable of, especially leading to last years finals period.

Look out when all these players are moving into the 60 - 80 game phase of their career....

I might be wrong but I thought he punched the aerial ball a fair bit last week (I was only just game enough to watch through splayed fingers when it went near him). He has averaged 5.5 one-percenters this year. By comparison Keath has averaged 4.5 this year and a bit over 5 for his whole career.

I'm sure someone will find other stats that show he had NFI though.
