Scott distils the essential fact of what faces Constable: he’s got to be playing at the level every week where he ends up demanding selection. He’s close to doing that. But there are factors outside of his control and he has to be better than the guy in his spot and at the moment there are some pretty good players in the team keeping him out.

My translation of that
Getting 40 plus back to back is good but against an AFL opponent that only 20 a game and you still aren’t doing enough to replace player x ... and player x has got 200 games on you and runs out games which is also why you got no luv from 17 other clubs last year.

Not saying I agree with all of it but that’s what I see ....

Go Catters

Even the pro-Constables like me know he's gone no matter how well he does.
Hopefully he has a good manager. North would be a good fit as Cunnington is getting older.
Hope he can keep up the motivation too and follow in Sam Mitchell's footsteps and winning the VFL Brownlow before he gets games.

Hopefully he can repeat.

Ive learned the hard way not to get excited about first year players who have a a great first practise game. Djurreka, Jansen, Tenace all come go mind. All arguably played there best games for the club in the pre season comp in their first year.
Told on page one not to compare him to Jansen. Insulting they said!
One played 8 games. The other delisted on 12.

Just not cut out for modern footy, different era and maybe he shines.

Shines at lower levels of modern footy, too, but.

He'll still be able to draw some $ from plying his trade for a few years yet, but it really is a fickle career path. What then?

You're right, different era and maybe he's approaching Diesel Williams - the running was always an issue apparently, the club baldly said so when he was drafted.

In no era could he or would he have approached Williams, because he simply can't and doesn't dispose of the ball by hand or foot anywhere nearly as effectively as Williams did.

Sounds more unlikely than likely from what the club has put out. Like there's a group of players we're more keen on but if none of them are available at our rookie picks we might give him another chance.

Not according to his manager - sounds like he'll be a rookie in the hoops next year, but they just seems to be prolonging in inevitable which will be a delisting at the end of next season:

PLAYER manager Marty Pask has praised Geelong for their management of his young client Charlie Constable.

Constable was let go by Geelong on Friday to increase his chances of finding a new home with senior opportunities, despite the Cats’ willingness to retain the 12-game contested ball specialist.

“The good clubs in the competition – and I talk of Geelong in this situation – who are really respectful and understanding and have tried to look after Charlie in this sense,” Pask told SEN Mornings.

“(They’ve told him) that if he can find a football club and it’s an easier path to get there as a delisted free agent, certainly have a look and go have your discussions and see what might be out there and if not, you can come back as a rookie.

“I like it when you can have these honest discussions and in this case, Geelong is trying to care about the individual.”

Interesting! Well I hope he comes back and proves me wrong!

It might be the manager putting a gloss on what was said. If, say, Brander was still available as a rookie, would we stick with what we know and take CC or hope Brander can fulfill his potential.
