Maybe if our team were structured in a way that we could keep a monstrous immobile lug close to goal to clunk marks mostly 1 on 1, Dixon would still be valuable to us. Alas...

When your club days are gone, the supporters are the ones who remember you, adore you and maintain your legacy.

Charlie Dixon will have no legacy, and will be remembered for being a massive dickhead who disrespected the fans.

Good riddance, you won't be remembered.

Dixon is basically Lance Harbor at the moment. Ridden into the ground in the same way Schulz was. He'd be playing every game jabbed up to the eyeballs.

In another universe he doesn't get traded here and ends up having an extra 30 games and 150 goals at this point in his career at a club where he probably hasn't been wheeled out to slag off the supporters.
Agree 100% with this. Bad case of Stockholm syndrome. For a big forward like him, to be instructed to actually approach a contest with the only intent being to bring it to ground should be humiliating. And this was before he was completely cooked. He's had to stand under long bombs for most of his career here. It's beyond loyalty, into stupidity, especially when you actively start slagging off the supporters who criticize the very game plan or lack of one that's ruined your career.

Dixon, Boak, Koch, Davies, Richardson, Cornes, Hinkley, Ransom, Shirley, Osborne, Cardone cannoned into the sun on one big sunday night dead rubber extravaganza. Bliss.

my best memory of him is still that very first pre-season hitout where he was pushing Richmond (I think) players around looking like a WWF Wrestler

Absolutely. This bloke will go down as my most hated of all Port players to pull on our colours. Looks like Tarzan, plays like a w***er...

How can his commitment to the contest not be a legacy to the port adelaide football club? He might not be remembered by yourself but for the average fair minded port supporter that will not be the case. This category of supporter kind of excludes doctor feel.

I like sam Mitchell as a coach and he came out strongly at his last after game and said that any racist supporter had no place in the hawthorn club.
The alberton grand stand seats are no place for some port supporters.

And alberton oval is no place for a player who slags off fans repetitively

Nobody in 30 years will be telling their kids about the days of Charlie Dixon.

Tredders? Obviously.
Schulz? Yep.
Butcher and what could have been? Without question.
But Dixon? What is there to say? Not much fault of his own, but he's played in an era where his coach made it impossible for key forwards to be exciting or successful. Slagging off the fans just means he won't be remembered as a cult hero like Butcher or Westhoff either.

This era will be looked back on as a dark age for the club. Players who weren't out and out superstars will be forgotten. Hinkley will only be remembered as our worst coach of all time. David Koch our worst chairman.

He might actually be the first very good player down at the club that will be looked upon with a level of disdain.

I tried to run through the history of the club in my lifetime and couldn't come up with another one. Sure there are guys who were dodgy or didn't do well or didn't live up to their potential but I'm talking about a guy who played a lot of game and did well but Dixon's legacy will be one of scorn.

I'm sure someone will find a player but you look at the 80s and 90s with so much happiness and creediness.

Smashed 'em, and Hardwick started pulling all his players off the field before the final siren.

Also round 6 that same year gave us this lovely screenshot:

One of these team went on to win the premiership the following year...

Has a bit of a one season too long, is played too long, then eventually falls out of the AFL side exactly like Jonas and Westhoff about it.

Unlike them, I don't see Charlie hanging around in the SANFL to season's end though. Immediate retirement feels imminent.

Keep him as depth until we can't make finals. Then retire.
