Because he didn't want to kill him. Duty of care and all.

As funny as it sounds that was my reaction when I saw it. I honestly think he was worried he was going to hit his opponent hard and high so he backed off.

Scoring is only relative to what the other guys score anyway

At the end of the game sure, but during the game it’s a whole other story.

For example, we double our opponent’s score by 3/4 time. If we score 100 points they’ll be 50 down, with almost no realistic hope of victory. But if we only score 50 points they’ll be 25 down, with a genuine belief that they’re still in the contest.

So instead of applying scoreboard pressure we’re giving our opponent scoreboard relief, which is a relatively stupid thing to do.

Dixon is a 200cm, 108kg full-forward.

Our game plan has him running from end to end the entire match.

Is it any wonder he can't jump, mark, or kick?

He is stuffed, and the blame falls entirely on our coaches.

Is this actually the case though? I've never seen his name in the top players for distance covered or repeat sprints this year, he often pushes up the ground when needed (like nearly every tall forward in existence does), and has been targeted plenty while in attack. This year his marking has been down, he's barely leading, and is currently going at 35% accuracy for shots on goal. Why is it that so many seem to blame Dixon's form purely on coaching?

Our season hinges on him starting to play to his potential again...we really need him to fire to be a threat.

Maybe making Dixon full-time ruck and forcing our mids to lower their eyes and kick to leading targets (Watts, Westhoff, Gray) will turn our forward malaise around.

I heard on FiveAA that Port have directed an inside 50 to Dixon 140 odd times this year. The most of any forward in the comp. (Brown was second Norths)
Something is obviously not working
This stat kind of makes a mockery of the idea that we are ruining Dixon with our game plan. He gets more chances than any other fwd. Lately he even gets beaten one on one. People seem to forget that Tredders was always taking marks on the wing. How'd he get there? Gee he must have caught an Uber.

Well its just a matter of the boys working harder, and did you know the competition is so even now? It makes it harder to football

Not even 3 quarter time. Take advantage of our first quarter momentum against Freo and we could have been up 4 or 5 goals to 1, then they wouldn’t have had their tails up. And we’d have had a buffer when Ryder and Robbie were out. It’s such a high risk game plan, the door is never shut until near the very end of games.

We’re actually the lowest scoring team in the Top 10 as it stands.
Yet last year we were just about the highest (compare the percentages). And this year having brought in proven goal kickers in Watts Thomas and Motlop our goals have dried up.
It has to come down to our analyst analysing the shit out of our positioning, leading to our players overusing the ball in trying to improve where we take shots for goal and inevitably causing costly turnovers with no goal scored.
And then listening to Lade yesterday my systolic BP elevated at least another 50 mmhg when he said the coaches don’t want our players attempting shots from the boundary or outside 50 and that other clubs don’t play that way either ffs. What a mess.

Not really.

Our game an involves kicking it to Dixon, often nowhere near goals, often well outnumbered with no crumbers at his feet.

The opposition know where it is going.

Half the time the whole point seems to be kicking it to him near the line so he can spoil it over.

Berating him for not winning the ball in this scenario doesn't make sense.

Fair points, I have always been a Dixon fan , I love his attack and passion, he is just off at present. There were a few times he was beaten easily. That's not on coaches , that's his to own and improve on.

Love the bloke but he's having a lousy year.

You can blame game style until the cows come home but he's dropping easy marks (always has) and missing shots straight in front on just about a weekly basis.

If you follow his Instagram all he posts are videos and pics of his new GF. He is besotted and his mind is off his game.

Ok, so we're clear, Dixon kicked 4 goals in a game just two weeks ago. Last week he kicked no goals, because Ryder went off injured halfway through the second quarter and he had to ruck. And we're blaming him for that?

Tom Clurey's forward craft wasn't good enough last week either. That's because he didn't play in the ****ing forward line.

I heard that, makes it clear why Wingard was grumpy in our forward line all year and is now in the middle. Basically it means players like him are going against the coaches wishes, when he kicks a goal from the boundary it's like a big middle finger to the coaches box. It's why Robbie Gray past it off in the 1st quarter of the Saints game. It's a mindset the complete opposite of 2014, I'm getting the feeling we are in a lot of trouble and will have a big fizzle out this year, pats on the back and all that... Then Instagram shots from Bali drinking beers.....

and Boak, forget your special training in the USA, just spend the entire summer at Alberton doing kick to kick so you can hit people on the chest in 2019.

I actually don't blame his forward line issues on him at all, he spends half the game in our defence then is supposed to spring back and take a mark, steady himself and kick 10 goals a game??? Our game plan doesn't consist of kicking to leading forwards, we bomb it on his head, our forward line entries are chaos and it has to be coached that way surely? Lade can bugger off with his radio comments yesterday.
