Dixon will learn from this.

Also, how ******* incredible is Boak. Don't care that he hasn't won a flag, best captain in the AFL era from me.
Charlie doesn't need to 'learn' got poor delivery and had no support so Brisbane could double even triple team him, kept trying his guts out as he always does.

Coaches need to learn from this.

Played on a guy that was happy to sit off him before running in the last minute to get fist in, had no interest in actually beating Dixon in a contest, just making sure he didn't win. Good smart defending. The way around is for hard leading patterns and getting separation but there was a lot of sitting under the footy/it being kicked on his head last night. That or smart body work, deft little bumps at the last minute to knock the defender out, which has never been his thing. He's always preferred to wrestle.

Only major concern I had was missing an easy shot.

Also the most blatant ruck shepherd free kick being missed.
Agreed. I think Andrews is the best key defender in the comp.

Was there anything wrong with Dix at the end there (injury wise), or was he just physically exhausted? Can absolutely understand if it's just the latter as he worked extremely hard all day by running up the ground, as well as crashing and bashing contests. Good to see him taking some big marks inside 50 again.

Came off due to the blood rule. Once that was dealt with, Chad was signalling for someone to come off the ground for him, but nobody came off.

Gassed himself out sprinting to the bench and I think probably overheated a bit. Can't be easy switching from winter to 24 degrees in the sun at max exertion

Quite happy for him not to come on. He was huge for us today, but those last few minutes our smaller players won the game for us..... After trying hard to lose it!

A few weeks ago I discussed how Harris Andrews played and that worked well on Charlie.

Well yesty, Jones tried to compete with him and beat him in the contests. How did that work out for you Liam?

Not many defenders can compete with him this year. Not many will beat him. Best they can hope for is a nil all draw.

He was a bloody good set shot for goals before he got to Port.

He will kick 7 to 10 goals 4,5 or 6 times a year if he fixes up his bloody set shots. 3 of those 4 points were very straight forward but he takes 2 or 3 steps rather than his normal routine.

Fix that and we become a massive threat in 2020, otherwise a 2017 Elimination Final near enough but not over the line type games loom.

Charlie's league wide rankings. Lots of contested marks and marks inside 50. Now need to kick straight. 15.11 could have been 21.5 type score with some easy conversions missed since his 3.0 in the showdown.

We need the other forwards to get dangerous, he's just going to be double and triple teamed from here on in

One will lead to the other, but that's always happened. Even his first game for us, we must have overlooked Schulz half a dozen times despite the fact Jay was at that pre-injury point, still out most dangerous forward.

Now start kicking straight you big bastard.

Charlie has kicked 19.12 from 32 shots.
He has kicked 18.9 from set shots and 1.3 from general play and one out on the full snap. Has missed 6 relatively straight forward set shots.

Charlie has to get value for all his hard work.

We have to stop always bombing it to him where he has 2 or 3 defenders and Hoff, Marshall and Georgiades competing against him would help. This is where a smart hungry small forward who can read the ball of packs has the opportunity to kick a bag of goals.

Charlie is being used to take contested marks from kick outs when Mckenzie, Burton, Harlett etc either go straight down the middle and put the ball inside the centre square or wider to the wing. He has taken some big contested marks when we have been under pressure compared to the other 2 major big strong KPF's.

So Charlie is doing more than just playing KPF. He is doing a lot of work away from forward 50. Just have to use him more and smarter closer to goals. Do that and who knows how far we go in 2020.

Here is how he stacks up against the other 2 big KPF's Hawkins and Kennedy and I have put in a few others

Hawkins is being used more up the ground and taking uncontested marks compared to Charlie. Probably doing more rucking than Charlie but have only seen a couple of Geelong games in full.

Misses easy shots but slots this. Westhoff is still in the side I guess!

The beauty of this clip is that after the initial elation, from about 0:44 to 0:52 you can tell he's thinking exactly what we were thinking "How did I get that and miss those sitters?"

“Back home” it’s a 19 hour drive between Cairns and Brisbane ffs.
It reminds me of when people were worried the go home factor would get Marshall to Sydney. Deniliquin is exactly between Sydnet and Adelaide, and close to Melbourne than either of them.
