Cheapest Foxtel

Whats the cheapest price any of you are paying for foxtel per month. Looking at getting it but only for footy and cricket. Their plans and IQ options are confusing.

Basic package is $44 plus the sports package of $16.

Minimum you will need to pay a month is $60.

For an extra $10 a month you can have HD and for a further $10 a month you can have IQ.

Not sure why I looked at this post, let alone respond, as I am here to research Kurt Tippett for dream team.

Don't take the risk.
He might improve by another 5-15 points, but he wont be getting enough to be an out and out star.
And you can get someone cheaper like Knights or Porplyzia who could go up in price even more, and if you don't want to hang onto them, that extra $$$ would be usefull for trades and upgrades :)

Go basic, then go sports

IQ is probably a waste for your reasons of watching, (unless you know you're going to miss some games, but $120 a year just to tape a few games? easte of money)
And HD for those sports isn't worth it, get it for American Football, or Basketball, completely different. MUCH better in HD for those sports

I pay $100 a month for basic plus sports which includes IQ2 and HD. Have to have IQ so a game can be watched several times if we win.

anyone know if you can record foxtel through a dvd recorder if you dont get IQ also does anyone know if you can take the box with you when you go away if you buy a separate dish? I spend 3 winter months in Alice Springs and they show bascially no crows games up there during that time.

Yeah you can, I still have my hard drive recorder which I used to record from Foxtel regularly before they upgraded me to iQ for free. Now the hard drive barely gets used (mainly for stuff I want to keep) while iQ gets a workout. Best feature of iQ is series link - not really that necessary for sports but with some shows you can set it up to record every episode.

I've only got the basic + sports package as well, which is $60. Used to have everything but movies, which was about $88, but 90% of the time I'm watching the sports channels, and the remainder of the time was shows on the basic package anyway, so downgraded.

Foxtel is so crap, 100 channels worth of what is on 5 channels on free to air, the only thing I watch on Foxtel is sports... and animal planet.

Movies
National Geo

But other than that you are close. Showcase in particular is great, especially with IQ as you can just record all the episodes of great series such as Hung, Californication and Satisfaction.

ive got foxtel HD platinum with 2 extra outlets and am paying $80.00 per month......

it was $150 per month, and ive been a customer for 10 years so I rang and threatened to disconnect - they went through every trick in the book (less channels, small discounts etc) to keep me but i got off the phone with a disconnection date in hand (all planned)

3 days prior to disconnection they rang and took my offer of $20 per week, for the full package as it stands

Not sure what channels are included, but you can now get Foxtel via the XBox 360 and coming soon you will be able to get it via a Telstra TBox. I believe these will be in the region of $20 per month, but not sure if they include AFL.

For normal Foxtel Box, I think the entry level is $39 per month, plus $16 per month for Sports package. They are always doing promos, so may be a new one that includes sport or HD channels.

My understanding is that Foxtel via 360 doesn't include AFL, as Fox don't hold the internet streaming rights.

Given those rights are held by Telstra/Bigpond, it may well be that the TBox will include AFL. This is nothing more than guesswork as I know nothing about the TBox, but Telstra would be mad to not include some form of AFL coverage to fully exploit those rights.

Heres a tip for saving a bit on Foxtel, When you sign up theres usually a deal eg, free iq for 12 mths or 2 months free etc. To get the deal you have to sign a 12 mth contract.

Once your contract is up, see whatever deal they have and ring them and say you want the deal, they will say its for new customers only, just say you want to quit and resign up and they will give you the deal, of course you will be on a new 12mth contract but if your a long termer anyway you can get some good free stuff just by saying you want it.

I got free Iq for a year, and $25 odd off for 6 mths doing this in the last 2 years.

It's annoying to have to pay for the basic plan when you only want to watch the sport but for those who don't know, you can have your programs cut off after the footy season but retain your connection for $5 per month until the footy starts again next year. I wouldn't do this of course but you can buy a twenty metre lead from Dick Smith for about $20 ( red yellow white ) that will plug into the back of your black box in your loungeroom and run under the carpet to your bedroom where you can lay back in bed using your remote to fire out the bedroom door, off the loungeroom ceiling ( to get over your lounge chairs ) and change channels without having to leave your warm cosy bed.

Just saying you want to disconnect (and being firm about it) is known to be able to get massive discounts (see the $80pm Platinum guy above.) Not guaranteed, but often effective.

IQ is a must. Especially if you are an EPL fan.

It is handy for the AFL games too. I play footy on Saturdays so often there are games I miss, especially interstate ones. It's also good to re-watch the games. Often you are a bit emotional during the games and what goes on doesn't really sink in. I watch the games again with a pen and paper and make note of all Stevens' mistakes, then rush on here to post about them. I couldn't do this without IQ.

Got the Sports HD channel for $58 (normal price is $100), got the special price when trying to disconnect.
Foxtel is full of recycled crap. Only got it for the footy and tennis.
The discounted pricing expires soon. If they don't extend the special offer, will definitely disconnect; especially since ESPN has got the rights to the tennis and refuse to show it on the HD channel. Hate watching tennis on ESPN, especially when they show it in 4:3 format.:mad:
Just hope new ESPN2 HD will show tennis.

Or drunk!

I had it and disconnected because its terrible, full of endless repeats and ads! I prefer a big internet plan and big hdd. Plus how you have to pay for all the crap, just to get to some good channels.

There is also that "select tv" but judging by there horribly designed website, they arent worth it either.

You can watch live unofficially, then wait a day and it is up for free on bigpond in hq. I think you can watch live from outside Australia on afl website, if you can use a decent proxy.

Yep that is correct, any foxtel that is offered through Telstra (3g, 360, tbox etc) are solely the foxtel owned channels and Fox Sports is not a foxtel owned and operated channel and is therefore not included.
