Chelsea struggle with Alaba's wage demands

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has demanded £400,000-per-week to move to Chelsea, Telegraph reports. Alaba has just six months left to run on his current contract with the German champions and the Blues are believed to be one of the frontrunners in the race to sign him.

Thomas Tuchel's side are in the running alongside Real Madrid but if they're going to put forward an actual offer, they'll want Alaba to lower his demands.

£400,000-per-week is equal to AUD$713,172 per week or AUD$37,084,944 per year.

I've seen a bit of Alaba over the years, but surely he isn't worth $37M per year to anyone is he? No wonder clubs get themselves into trouble when they sign players to such ridiculous contracts unless you're talking about the top 5 or so players in the world whose clubs will reap bigger rewards in shirt sales and various merchandise, but Alaba, c'mon.

I think that's ludicrous wage demands, definitely wouldn't get your monies worth. No player in the world deserves that much.

Alonso is a better LWB than Chilwell, but not LB. He'll get chances too as we arent going to play this setup for ever.

Zouma should never play in the center of a back 3 ever again.

Agree RE Zouma, he totally messed their goal up leaving that hole.
Chilwell though, I'm struggling to think of many other players better suited to wing back role. Loves to play out wide, up and down that left and probably provides better attacking opportunities than Alonso. I'm keen to rotate between the two.

Don't think he gets forward enough for Tuchel. Typically the wing backs are playing inside the wingers as an option to receive the ball in the box, which Alonso I guess is more used to than Chilwell.

We haven't lost a game under Tuchel and have only let in 2 goals.

Yeah, our defence is the least of our concerns. I'd like us to score more goals, especially given how much we spent on our attack, but we're still mostly getting results.

Perhaps, but for squad such as ours, the draw against Southampton and our inability to score is quite infuriating.

I'm still really annoyed about the draw against Southampton particularly when a lot less sides are easily winning against them and putting a good 2-3 past them.

Given this was about Chilwell; his form under Frank was very good, so its not unreasonable to be annoyed that he his being frozen out.

It's cos Chilwell isn't as good as Alonso as a wing back and isn't as good at cutting inside to be an option inside the winger.

Would like to see Chilly play wingback but tbf to Alonso he hasn't put a foot wrong and deserves to hold his spot.

Alonso played all 90 minutes vs Southampton and now Athletico, surely Chilwell gets minutes somewhere there.
He was one of our best players for first part of the season, he must be getting the shits now by not playing at all.
Was subbed after 60 odd minutes in FA cup.
I'm not calling for him to play over Alonso, but he should be getting more game time than he is.

Tuchel has only been here a month so results like Soton were bound to happened, this morning certainly made up for it though didn't it.

I dont think Chilwell has been frozen out, just that Alonso is preferred atm as a wingback and tbh hes better at it than Chilly. Im sure we'll go back to a back 4 at some stage and he'll get his chance then.
