If we could keep him in the box of just working with young players and developing their skills and motivation, would love to have him back.

Just don't know that Mark can be contained though.

How he hasn’t gotten another crack at the top job somewhere else is odd.

Has had success in his own right as well as being associated with Richmond and Melbournes rises to dominance.

4 current head coaches all come from his tutelage (Hardwick, Clarkson, Kingsley and Dew).

He must really scare off the decision makers with his approach.

Just heard the back end of his interview on 5aa. Lol still has you on tenderhooks when he speaks ... no idea what he's gonna come out with haha

Richmond sacked him before they won the flags.

When you look back over his career and influences, it surprises he doesn't get more recognition but modern world is style over substance.

Without even looking at his playing record, that 2000-2004 era still has a massive say over most coaching boxes around the country today. Not just Ports but their main oppo in Brisbane, which highlights the quality of the opponents of the day.

Factor in Choco's influence at GWS, Richmond and Melbourne, for me personally he deserved more acknowledgement.

The Tredders and PBurger stories are well known. Also behind switching Chad to CHB? Are there similar individual stories from GWS and Demons? One thing to be a good "raw" people motivator - like Ken also seems to be. Next level to have the attention to detail to see what someone could be from their skill set x mental application. The gift of development. Hardest with KPPs, for all the angst some recall Mark's got more points there than Ken. I suppose the third and fourth legs of coaching are actual um, strategy and game day nous. Ken doesn't do either "very" well is the consensus. Mark certainly had... ideas on where the game was going in 2005, was wrong, stubbornly, destructively wrong because he is who he is... and may be long out of those loops by now, but would he ever admit that? Ken took risks early then sulked in his shell for years trying to get us to defend all the way to mediocrity. Mark arguably didn't take risks early with the chip to chip game but tried a few "too smart" tactical moves to compensate at times before it all clicked one fine 2004 day. Then delusions of genius may have set in, and a worsening resourcing crisis paralyzed the club from making change. We still show unusual fear of change and risk today and... what you might call institutional PTSD... keeps blaming the earlier cycle for freezing impulses to sharp change over this mid-late Ken era.

You wouldn't be comfortable with either bloke as head coach because they are both too stubborn, but in very different ways. "Choco in a box" so to speak would definitely have a role in "development", anywhere. Ken probably gets that kind of a role somewhere.

For whatever reason, our players need someone on the sidelines to give them encouragement. Choco would probably be better at it than Ken is.

haha thank you for a nice tl;dr version of my long winded post

Yeah I get that part. So Carr would be head-coach, Choco his assistant, camped on the boundary? Anyway it doesn't really matter, as much as, I guess it's an interesting idea, it wouldn't happen.

Josh may be one of the few hard-enough heads who could keep Choco in a box. Or out of the coaches box so to speak. If he can navigate the seeming change of roles with Ken... excellent apprenticeship for working an even pricklier personality/talent.

Champion player as well, his playing career doesn’t get the respect it deserves in my opinion

Hes the antithesis to Ken.

Should never have left the club.

The real Port Adelaide has been wrung out of this place like a soggy dishcloth.
He was responsible for that with some of his actions. The closest the club came to being Port again since 2004 was 2010 - 2014. The results weren't great but the attitude of management was there.
