News Clarkson to step away from football indefinitely

Poorly handled by the AFL, and poorly handled by the club involved. Going to cost $$$$, careers and reputations in the end.

Not much sympathy for North from me, as I personally feel they should have been relocated or wound up years ago; but they can't take a trick and are really starting to get the stench of a Fitzroy about them now! (Send them to Tassie FFS.)

Trouble is, for some idiot reason, Tassie don’t want them.

They seem to think a team set up in Tassie will have more Tassie footballers….like that happened withGC, Adelaide, the Bears/Lions or GWS. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🙄

The AFL / McLoughlin were the last major sporting body to back the Voice, and that's in a leage with 20% Indigenous players.
They didn't defend Adam Goodes until it was all over.
McLoughlin has family links to the National Party and friends in the Liberal party.
Now he's cooked up this debacle hoping he could sweep it all under the carpet and fix it with 'mediation' lol.
Clarkson and Fagan should have been stood down straight away because of the serious nature of the alligations and there should have been a swift inquirey and punishments handed out.

What has Jack McLoughlin got to do with it? He's an Olympic swimmer, not an AFL CEO.

Congrats on the witch hunt media. Clarko didn't deserve the shabby treatment

Catching them like flies.

Guess you also don't understand the basic legal fundamentals of duty of care, and employer employee responsibilities. If that's the case, you probably shouldn't post so much on this topic.

Goodness. I understand institutional responsibility quite well, thanks.

Its a mediation process. When they ask him his version of events, what do you think he might say?

That’s a separate topic to “did you properly manage the actions of your employees”, which would also need to be dealt with.

You have to wonder if all the terrible losses North have had recently have played a part in Clarko stepping away, after all Fagan has the same investigation hanging over his head and he isn't stepping away but Brisbane have been winning and are looking like one of the premiership favourites.

They ******* got him. What a cooked country we live in, where you're now guilty until proven innocent, or should that be "mediated", and anyone who makes an accusation is deemed by the entire media as a "victim".

Absolutely cooked country.
It's not just him or even just these three - we live in a society that happily ignores the right to presumption of innocence, led by a largely woke media who crucify anyone from a "majority" when they get the chance. (edit: this coming from a guy who's never voted for libs and previously voted greens many times)

Regardless of personal opinions, how many times was it published that Higgins was a victim of rape?
Or that these former players were "victims"?

Pathetic country and that's on us for staying silent and allowing this giant guilt trip to happen
I think there's room for nuance when it comes to accusations. We don't have to rush to form a lynch mob for the defendant before the facts have all come out, but in addition, there is a great value in treating alleged victims of abuse with the sympathy and care we would give to confirmed victims. It is incredibly hard for people to come forward and speak about alleged abuse. There can be a lot of stigma, shame and guilt attached to it, and I don't see any value in making it harder for them to do so, or repeating the mistakes of the past where the victims of abuse were sneered at, ostracised or further mistreated. We don't have to treat the alleged victims as potential liars to presume innocence on the part of the defendant, at least in my mind.

I also wouldn't call the media woke at all. What they are, is opportunistic, unscrupulous and money-grubbing. If beating up on someone from the majority will sell papers, they'll do it. If beating up on someone from the minority will sell papers, they'll do it. Their goal isn't social justice, it's getting attention. They're a threat to all of us, regardless of political persuasion or identity.

My thoughts:
1. MH is a bugger of a thing to manage, hopefully it all goes well.
2. Clarko going on SL and taking his genuine workplace entitlements means North and the AFL will have to pay him, which is a smart move.
3. Cant see this stopping the AFL from turning him into a scapegoat now that hes shown he cant be swept under the rug
4. The problem is now that the optics are so bad they almost need to clean out a lot of people to make this noise stop and im not sure AFL has the want nor the will to clean up.

Alastair Nicholson of the AFLCA:

The entire AFL coaching group is thinking of Alastair Clarkson today.

AFL coaching is a high stress job and the AFLCA has offered Alastair its support as he steps away from the game for his mental health and wellbeing.

Today’s announcement underscores the importance of expediting the investigation into the Hawthorn issue for all parties involved.

It has taken too long and is taking a significant toll on those at the centre of the issue.

How can Clarkson’s ‘side’ possibly consider him to be ‘persecuted’ or ‘assumed guilty’?

He’s literally lauded every time he’s mentioned on AFL programming and it’s basically unheard of to publicly suggest he should be banned/step away from his position before a due process has been undertaken.

The leagues official SM pages were posting pics of him and Fagan hugging only a couple of weeks ago….and now conveniently the entire ‘narrative’ has shifted to faceless club blaming as a way of making sure everyone knows how rough poor old Clarko has it?

Now you have North Melbourne Super Fans like David King, pretending to be a journo, banging on about ‘destroying the fabric of the guy’.

Come on…

Yes he is currently innocent which is why he hasn’t been charged with anything or been punished for anything.

What exactly is your point?
That he is innocent. People on here wanting to hang him already without trial.

Fagan is lucky he's up in Qld away from it all. Nobody would recognise him in the street either.

North should have done their due diligence
Considering the allegations have been hidden by hawthorn for so long how do you propose they’d have discovered it?

He probably stepped into the role thinking if he could turn the club around he'd go down as the all time great coach. But instead now will only tarnish his reputation if he stays.

when it came up he hadnt started coaching. should have been stood down then until it was resolved. Many said he wouldnt coach or shouldnt coach but he was there round 1...... but should he have been

North cant play or cry the victim, they had a choice
