Say what?

I've always found his personality to be very abrasive which never sits well with me but I don't recall him ever overstepping the mark with media - aggressively defending his players is the most I've ever seen from him. Am I forgetting something?

How many other coaches do that by telling journos their time will come?

Clarkson's bizarre outburst at Hawthorn in his presser last week seemed an indication that he was not well. It was extremely out of character for somebody who has generally handled the media well, and would/should have known his comments would make front page news.

I've never been enamoured by him but wish him the best and hope he's able to get better away from the spotlight.
Honestly thought the same thing. Through the whole mucked up firing/replacement he didn't say a negative word, stayed dignified through this whole racism investigation, even had nothing but kind and/or professional words for Hawthorn and the fans when we played this year; his public lashing of both us and Sam Mitchell + pulling out of the premiership reunion, it seemed something was not going well and he was heading downhill. Hope he has time to rest up, get his head right and face+defend the claims against him without the pressure. The media have truly driven him out - can imagine Damo and Caro are salivating at the mouth right now

You're forgetting the tall poppy syndrome that exists on the main board and in society in general. Those who strive for and achieve success often become targets keyboard warriors and loudmouths.

He's 55 years old, he's financially secure, can make money in a lot more less stressful ways; autobiography, hired speaker, coach mentor (like Paul Roos has done). He doesn't have to prove himself, and I don't think being proven as the greatest coach ever has really driven him that much. I think he's enjoyed developing young men and the competitiveness of outthinking the other coaches.

I'm 45 now... 10 years ago I was far more competitive and differently focused than I am now... age, life, Covid, BS, etc, has a funny way of changing mindsets and what's important in life.
You're projecting yourself onto him. He's on record as not caring about the money, guy was prepared to sell his family home to clear his name. He cares about one thing and one thing alone - legacy.

Wouldn't be surprised if Sonja politely told / asked him to step aside. After the strong showing last week. And publicly making it look like clarkson is mentally struggling

Clubs have done it before. Pies and Degs an example.

Wouldn't be surprised if evidence has surfaced that's not favourable either.

In any case I doubt Clarkson put his hand up and said ' I can't handle it' - not consistent with his manor in front of the mic.

Cover up one way or the other.

100% this has happened thus the reason he has thrown in the towel

Cool assumptions.

Pretty long bow. Perhaps he feels aggrieved as he has been presumed guilty and still has not received appropriate details to sufficiently address things
