Hello Port Adelaide Board,

This will be a real quick one. With umpiring being in the media so much and a lot of people talking about free kick count differentials and all that crap, I wanted to do a more in depth look at the frees that a team gives away. I believe that looking at what a team gives away is the best way to try and get some trends since when we Tiger supporters whine about umpires the usual response is "thats how you play".

To this end I also want to add some colour theory and Home Ground analysis to the mix. Richmond, Carlton and Port are the clubs I think would be best to use for colour theory as our home jumpers are dominated by dark colours and the clash are light colours. Your team could also provide further results because you changed your clash from a grey to a bright white as well.

As an aside, I have decided to not do with this Essendon as some quick research shows that Red can evoke negative responses like dark colours (also it is one of the colours, with yellow that makes you hungry and why almost all fast food chains have one of those colours).

So with that large preamble, since 2019 (I am not sure if you have had to adopt a clash jumper against new sides since then), which sides do you typically wear your clash strip with?

Thanks for your time

Mero is very accurate with club jumpers on his footy jumpers site and people contribute to his BF thread and feed him info.

These are all of Port's away jumpers by individual season in the AFL.

Port's general jumper page

Mero's Big Footy thread which might help for other clubs, if his footy jumpers site doesn't do the job. Its up to page 374

We never wear an away/clash strip against Sydney. The AFL say there is no clash when they are all red and we are all black.

We also don't these days against the crows, but we used to wear an away strip for away showdowns in the early years in the AFL.

Legends, Thanks a heap everyone.

The clash strip is always an odd one as we (the Tigers) don't wear it against Carlton (real dark navy blue that is almost black) but we do against Freo who are Purple.

I think there is a bit of an interesting thing with the traditional Vic big 4 where the AFL will look the other way and allow them to wear clashing guernseys against each other. All 4 of the traditional Vic big 4 would always wear their clash against us, but never against each other.

It's happened a little bit with Showdowns as well where neither side wears a clash. I wonder if it's just the AFL wanting clubs to wear their home kit in rivalry games.

We have always done the clash against the Bombers. Against Collingwood there isnt much of a clash but it really is curious that the AFL thinks that Purple + White clashes more against Yellow + Black than Dark Navy Blue + White.

They are basically ****.wits at the AFL. They think we are all watching the game in black and white TV not HD TV.

I think the last time Port wore a clash jumper in the showdown was 2019 when they wore the predominantly silver one. Still prefer that clash jumper to the current one, personally.

Good thread but it brought back this insane memory.

This is forgotten because we had a great day out and ended up with an all time genius "compromise" but really you'd have to put this in some top 5 list of proper Bush League decisions by the AFL. Incomprehensible in every aspect - that Richmond wore such a flimsy clash jumper for years before it suddenly became an issue for the AFL the week of a final, that we were essentially blamed for it, and the stupidest part: they ****in wore in the end anyway!

AND they had worn it previously against Port with no issues

The Big 4 thing is definitely a thing. There's nothing worse than watching the Clash in a Dons v Collingwood Anzac game where Essendon sticks to the trend of a floral sash which introduces even more dark against the post-00 Collingwood black-backed jumper.

It's not even the VFL, just the B4VFL.

I prefer your yellow to be honest.
