I think the problem is that his best game in terms of ruck work was against the best ruckman in the competition.

I am not sure whether Fort, Ceglar and the other rucks on the merry go round can say that.

But yes it is a small sample size.

I reckon Sam Mitchell has identified that he can get the same output but for many more years from Lynch than Ceglar for a fraction of the price.
The problem is the legend of this game is so over exaggerated on here it's not funny. He at best broke even, which is still great, but it's ignored that it was one of Melbourne's worst games for the year. Ceglars form was so much more impressive than Lynch. Lynch has not done once what Ceglar was doing each week at the end of the year, although he is younger.

I don't understand why COVID only affected us? Surely other clubs had budgeted to use up their pre-COVID cap.

Was it that players from other clubs agreed to take a haircut and ours didn't?
All clubs are in different degrees of tightness with their cap at any given time. We were sailing closest to the wind when the change came in and so were more in the firing line than any other club

I think leading into the game we expected him to be destroyed by Gawn and the Pies getting absolutely smashed.

But he broke out even against the best ruckman in the game, which contributed to the Pies beating Melbourne comprehensively.
So, it was a fantastic effort for someone playing only his 3rd or 4th game of senior football. Suggests to me he has plenty of potential of being a good ruckman with 30 games under his belt.

Unsure why you would dismiss this effort.

I have already been over the Coll v Melbourne game numerous times. People are seduced because the umpires gave Gawn votes. Those votes had to have been based on the marking of Gawn. It certainly was not for by ruck work.

It is a shame that Lynch was not given a five game stint so we could have a better gauge as to what he can do week in, week out.

From which club was a Ceglar recruited from lol and at what stage was he at compared to Lynch.

I think it's insane we're considering trading our Luke Jackson-type. Trade Cox, play Lynch more! It seems simple to me.
You’re taking the piss yeah? Lynch isn’t fit to tie Jackson’s bootlaces.

We're the AFL's bloody ruck nursery: Ceglar, Lynch, Witts......

Lol away. You literally said they would get the same output as Ceglar for cheaper. Maybe the word compared has changed??

I'm not seduced by anything, I didn't check Brownlow. Lynch tapped well in that game. But Gawn had more possessions, more goals, more tackles and more marks. That game gets him a go at another club. It doesn't get him a 2nd round pick.

If Daicos is drafted third we would be in a position to get him, Dib and a future 2nd.
Even if he goes 1 we may be able to get lucky and wrangle it, if that's our goal.

If we can trade 27 down for a good price, after paying for Daicos we may have worked it so we have a high 40s pick left after matching, which could come in to a high 30s pick, which is end of second round usually. So if There's a player left a club without a pick rates - they may pay future second.

Oh Ok. Very interesting.

Would be epic LOL if he was moved on.

I might be the only one, but I'd (theoretically) consider bringing him back into the fold, if he came at a cost of cents on the dollar both trade and contract wise and with a really clear acknowledgement from him that it's last chance saloon territory for him in terms of an AFL career, so he'd need to drastically tidy up his off field behaviour and dot all the i's / cross all the t's in pre-season on the training track (and especially in the weights room).

You don't kick 59 goals in your first 38 games if you can't play the game and his performances vs the eagles and blues in the latter half of this season were pretty good by anyone's estimation, so it looks like there is a much higher ceiling there for him if he can be more disciplined both at and away from the club.

It will never ever happen of course, just a hypothetical.

I'd rather we keep characters like him away from our young list , despite his skill set.

He's turned the off field stuff and discipline on the training track all the way around, if more recent reports on him coming out of Richmond are to be believed.

We can’t offer a third rounder for lipinski and expect a anything higher for lynch. SPS went for a pick in the 50’s

Ultimately comes down on what the Hawks are prepared to pay and the other alternatives to Lynch available.
If they want a capable, 10 year Ruckman who can run all day then Lynch is in a class of his own.
If they see a Diamond in the rough, comparisons to SPS and Lipinski’s trade value become irrelevant.

It would be another episode in our long history of recruiting NQRs.

I’m on board, but not this year if it’s ever a chance despite his name possibly being floated.

I still think he holds value and it’s probably still pretty raw so next year is the time to enquire, but the reason I’m not 100% convinced it’ll never happen is because he seemed genuine in his desire to stay and I think there might have been a personality clash with someone that’s since moved on* (on top of his questionable choices off field and high price tag).

*Not necessarily Buckley!

Yes Ceglar's 2 years for no games and then getting picked up as a rookie by Hawthorn. Let's tap ourselves on the back for that one!
Two years as a forward no less for Ceglar. Could arguably add Callum Sinclair (VFL list for 0 games) or even more of a stretch Sean Darcy who trained alongside VFL 'pie Lachlan Howe prior to being drafted.
