Dream scenario is Daicos and Dib from the draft (+ future picks).

Constable, Dumont and Brander on rookie salary via FA/DFA.

In addition to Kreuger, Lipinski from trades.

Gee how desperate are we when Constable, Dumont & Brander is deemed part of a “ Dream” draft for us.

Anyone who has watched Ellis Yolmen in the last 18 months would realise his career is cooked and not worth touching.

It depends on the key indicators you're looking for and what you want from him.

There are only a couple of teams I see Ellis-Yolmen as best-22 on.

Collingwood is one of those teams. Other than Adams, there isn't a second midfielder on the list with nearly the ground ball winning capabilities nor provided pressure around stoppages. And I'm talking none remotely close.

Whether he's an appropriate get depends on your objective.

If you want competitiveness in 2022 and someone who can be that ball winner and bring the pressure around stoppages, he improves the list and improves the best-22.

I don't see him doing a lot towards youth improvement nor can I see him being there for the club's next premiership run. So if your focus in on that, he's not a necessary addition.

He hasn't forgotten how to win his own footy or heap on the pressure. He can still play a role. It's just very much a specialist role where you recruit him only if that's an area of deficiency and you're looking for a boost around stoppages. Specialists as a concept can be fine when they fill an area of extreme deficiency.

Trent Dumont would be a good get as an Unrestricted Free Agent on base/rookie salary. Thoughts Knightmare

  • Probably a B grade player (half a tier worse than Adams), but would still be best 22 for us, and our 3rd best midfielder behind Adams and Pendlebury. In addition to keeping Crisp and Maynard down back to maintain our defensive structure
  • Dumont is also a big bodied defensive midfielder who is able to support Adams on the inside, but also keep opposition midfielders accountable, which facilitates Pendles as that offensive mid and potentially increasing his durability (Pendles currently plays that role)
  • Still only 26! And just came off a career best season as a pure inside midfielder, recently pushed out of the midfield due to Cunnington and Anderson returning from injury. Simpkin and Thomas developing further. As well as recent recruits in Powell and Phillips
I think as a mature inside mid with strong physicality, he will provide valuable support that will help us transition to a future midfield of N Daicos, J Daicos, R Mcinnis, F Macrae, etc.
Firstly, half a tier worse than Adams? Seriously? That is a wildly off assessment.

Secondly, his recent season was his poorest in many inside-mid indicators. It was his career worst for tackling, clearances and contested possessions. If anything he plays below his size

This hasn't/didn't stop the likes of Caleb Daniel or Brent Harvey from having an impact at AFL level
Not meaning he's useless - just very limited.
He doesn't have the ball-winning capability, nor the damaging disposal skills of the likes of Daniel or especially Harvey, who also had that extreme pace.

Looks like there are some potential handy role players available in the preseason draft. Some young enough to improve.

I like Naish for his outside speed and skill…even though he’s on the softer side.

Dead right. If we managed to keep all our list under $850k, it sets us up well for flag tilts in time.
I realise Grundy is over this amount and it’s a problem on 2 fronts.
1) It hurts our cap and,
2) Other players will expect the same which hurts the cap squeeze further
How do we know what Grundy is on…we all assume it’s about 1m, but who says the media reports are correct.

Trouble is it’s often difficult to determine whether it’s soft, lazy or timid ….. or a combination thereof.

I really like Jack Lonie with a late pick he is the only one I would look at.

Lonie has 73 goals from 87 games. We might as well have kept Thomas.

Because all the media are saying it and these things are easily leaked, a lot of people (and ex-people) at the club would know, some of Grundy's friends/family will know, his manager will know ect and these people talk.

That’s your dream scenario? Two guys we’re aligned to already and another 3 unwanted battlers!

Prepare to be further amazed:

I don’t see North as a good club, but that decision typifies why they’re on the path to being a good club. Whilst they’re cutting dead wood like Dumont and Atley who received significant game time under former coaches we’ve announced new contracts for that type of player only yesterday. North might not be better for those decisions in 2022, but they won’t be worse off which we potentially will if our guys continue to play seniors.

I think we also need to factor in the VFL returning next year. This will give our young players the chance to push the lower list players out.
Hopefully we coach our VFL team to win, rather than as a training exercise. I want to see a winning culture embedded in everything we do.

As much as im not a fan of Madgen and Wilson. 1 year deals are right for them. Puts pressure on them to get better , also puts pressue on the younger guys to battle for their spot. Not the worst list decision we have made in the past decade. Way i see it , netheir will get a spot in the backline if we have an injury free list. Purely depth and vfl players.

I was actually leaning more specifically towards Noble who is a clone of Atley. Way I see it we will have injuries and one of them will receive game time so we can only hope the club choose the future. I’d feel much more comfortable if we took a punt on Dean. He’s ready made and should be available in the second half of the draft.
