Oppo clubs will be ringing Ben King’s manager in droves this week.
why would he want to stay at such a rabble of a club
and extra $400k perhaps? I don't think GC were that naive. Wayne Campbell joined them late September as General Manager of Football Performance. He probably knows what it took to build up the GWS list and maybe doesn't see the point in holding Greenwood.

Doubt that's going to happen
Let me start by saying that I do not wish it to happen. Daicos is easily the best player in this draft. Norf are an up and coming side as are we, why would you give your opponent a sporting chance? Norf will take Daicos with pick one just like they stole Greenwood from GC.

Apparantly the plan was for him to nominate for the PSD
To be honest that’s another thing that just seems open to manipulation. There should be one draft with one draft order, with a rookie draft to follow a National, and the caveat that if you nominate in one you nominate in all. Again the PSD is ridiculously open to exploitation imo

Yeah, the AFL is responsible for that, can't blame clubs for using it as an option if they can.

The AFL always act with the utmost of integrity so I don’t see that ever being an issue… :p

Looks like Darcy Wilmot is the player we are trying to get with the dogs pick 23 if we happen to do that
I hope so.
Hopefully he's worn his Collingwood jumper in all his interviews whilst saying "yeh I'm happy to go anywhere"

The Knights star revealed he has held discussions with Collingwood ahead of the National Draft, however with his stocks rising as a likely early-second round selection, the Holden Centre is unlikely to be the teenager's new home.

While Wilmot would love to represent the Magpies, the hard-nosed backman revealed he would be elated to join any AFL club.

Don't be so sure, Darcy. Bianco also dropped in the draft..

Oh I thought we got pick compensation.
We got pick 14 and 36. Points value of 1,663 points.

In return, we gave picks 26 33 42. points value of 1,687 points.
We gave Treloar.
And the gift that keeps on giving, we are giving $300,000 per year from our salary cap.

Yep, we got pick compensation....

I wouldn't be surprised if the GC were happy to dangle him out there. Frees up some much needed space for King etc.
Who knows, maybe even gets them a seat at the table for a play for that free agent JDG?

Campbell didn't seem too fussed by it. It sounded as if they were unsure if they would even extend his contract past the next year.
I don't think it was an 'accident' they were unprepared for at all. Possibly even set up.

They offered him an extra year to try get him to stay after North gave him an offer, so your comment is way off the money.

Of course Campbell is going to play it down publicly, what else is he meant to say?

Nope. Tasmania deserves its own identity, not the identity of North Melbourne. Tasmanians are making it very clear the state is not a franchise dumping ground.
I see the argument both ways but mean more towards a Melbourne team relocating.

They can play half their games in Melbourne to retain their existing fan base…it worked for Brisbane and Sydney at least in the transition…

We're not getting Ben King. I would find it highly unlikely an event like that would occur. For a start, it will be two first rounders plus as Gold Coast want to keep talent. St Kilda has more chance. Our forward line is also stacked so yeah nah. The club has already said we're not buying success as part of the Do Better Report.

We are trying.
What forward line are you watching?
I think you’ve misread.

What would happen to the playing list if the AFL gave up on the Gold Coast experiment? Players choice where they go?
It's a very complicated question because it would have a bearing on players on other lists too.

End of the day players might just have their contracts paid out in full by the AFL and allowed to re-enter the draft pool.

Would be a huge story though. The AFL would much rather keep the licence active somehow.

Shouldn't be an issue really PS the league have been rewriting the rules on the run for a few decades now without any opposition from the clubs.

They will just issue some bullshite rule with bullshite reasons like the did with player rotations cap and it will be sweet.

Having the points for Daicos and turning pick 36 into two top 20 selections would be rather remarkable.

We are in the schitte BECAUSE we were relying on future draft picks and back ending contracts.

Where did I say it was only pick 36 involved? Isn't the entire concept of this discussion trading future picks?

I disagree our current circumstance is because we traded future picks. It's a lot more complex than that.

I want to keep our 2022 1st. Trading it can be a win or loss, it’s an extra gamble but for mine we are most likely bottom 4 next year and we won’t get that sort sort of value by trading back into 21.

If we did trade it would be a clear indication the club has confidence we may rise a bit. After getting burnt by trading our 2021 1st I would rather not go that route. While we are a chance to rise I think bottom 4 is realistic and even last and access to pick 1 is a real possibility. Finishing bottom 4 and having no top 4 pick would be a shocker.

As can keeping it. And we'd know either way 12 months earlier.

What would happen to the playing list if the AFL gave up on the Gold Coast experiment? Players choice where they go?

If the AFL were to “give up” they’re still contractually obliged to have an 18 team competition (19 or perhaps even 20 with the next tv rights deal) so the franchise would just relocate and all else would stay the same. It’s a 2 year process though so players would make their own calls on whether they stick with the club or not.

On Greenwood my main interest is in the vibe that it’s a coup for North to get him as a free hit. I’m personally not investing $500k pa into an injured 30yo mid range player when we have Moore, JDG and Maynard OOC post 2022, but it seems there’s plenty out there that would. He’ll be best 22 there no doubt and probably handy for them we’d just have been mad to go there.

Had to have a giggle on two fronts:

The Suns stuffed up majorly, which I would've assumed they were OK with had it not been for Greenwood's tweet before he shifted.

And secondly because North have clearly just plucked a player simply because he's gettable and free, not because he's apart of their list strategy or anything. When did a genuine premiership contender (or someone bound to contend in the next 2-4 years) ever just recruit a player of the sake of recruiting a player?

This Pokemon "gotta catch em all" attitude is what has St Kilda treading water/going backwards.

Greenwood might be a decent stop-gap for Cunnington if he were a few years younger, but they'll both be ready to hang them up very soon.

Probably right. Just dumbfounded a professional club can be managed in this way. It was a shock for them to choose Greenwood to delist of all players, so I assumed there may have been a bigger plan at play. Maybe just incompetence.

Yeah I agree. Maybe some insurance for Cunnington?
