Who said that it’s a salary dump? I don’t think we are in a dire position that requires us to dump him- particularly if his contract was front loaded. It would only be a dump if it meant that trading him would allow us to get something that would allow us to improve in another area.
I would doubt that Port or Adelaide would be anywhere near cap capacity
They are already losing Karl Amon, so they have even more next year

It is unlikely that we front ended Grundy’s contract in 2020/1, when we were over the salary cap and had to back end Treloar’s contract.

In business one usually keeps their word. We should fulfil commitments we make to players. That includes having a spot for Kreuger, to play in the AFL, when he returns from injury.

So you think we front ended Grundy’s contract in 2020/1, when we were over the salary cap and had to back end Treloar’s contract? Seriously??
I think it’s possible. We couldn’t carry Treloar, Philips, Stephenson, Cox and Grundy.
Cox is on minimum and only Grundy from that list is still there.

we haven’t brought in any players who would be commanding big dollars. Other than Lipinski and Krueger all others have come through the draft.
I think there is a strong possibility that we were able to work something.

You’ve all fully lost the plot.

32 year old Mason Cox, a 45 game DC in a rich vein of form and Aidan Begg would be our ruck quality moving forward. For what? Some late round draft picks and salary release? So we can re-sign the headache JDG? We’d then have to go seek a ruck quality backup, which don’t come cheap anymore. They are a dime a dozen.

No thank you. Too many people on here are roped in through basic stats like a kid at a candy store. All the advanced metrics point to us becoming an easy beat at centre clearance, and it’s lucky we are good on transition. Don’t get me wrong, DC is a fantastic mark and can go forward better than Grundy but BG is by far the superior ruck and that’s not even a discussion.

In two years, Cox will retire and Begg will be 21 but nowhere near ready to shoulder a ruck forward role. Grundy won’t even be 30.

I’d rather find other avenues and ways to get the players we need then to constantly bring up Grundy in trade rumours from *******s like Rockliff and Kane Cornes.

Move on.

On another thread they mention Pies would probably accept a 2nd or 3rd round to dump all of his salary

Sort of makes sense to help move him on more easily?

Yes, that would make sense I guess. But I doubt anyone would take it would they?

Still think it’s majorly unlikely that Grundy will be anywhere else.

Trade a 28yo premier ruck of the competition for a 2nd or 3rd round pick?

We are not talking about a dime a dozen mid with bad hamstrings, we are talking about a durable, dual AA and dual copeland trophy winner who is a top 3 ruck when free of injury.

Surely you are taking the absolute piss.

Nothing is final until the season ends, I'm not sure what you expected him to say

Tom Browne said last week according to his sources that David Noble was getting sacked this week. Where is this happening this week?
Like the comments on Grundy, just guessing, and it may happen, but not 100% sure....

Not a word out of the club to refute or dismiss the speculation that we will be looking to move Grundy on at seasons end , and rightly so , say nothing , but an astute operator such as Wright will only put in place what is best for Collingwood moving forward. All options and avenues regarding Grundy will be on the table .

This only way l would accept Grundy leaving was if he himself thought a move back to SA was good for him, and the club eg. Port Adelaide took on his whole contract, without us having to pay anything. Hence opening up enough cap space to bring in another A grader eg. Taranto...

There is zero chance that we decided to pay Footscray $1.5m of Treloar’s contract, to allow us to ‘front end’ Grundy’s payments.

There's a chance if we were aiming a couple of years down the road. The club did claim at the time that they could have worked their way through the issue, but thought it was better to clear the books. It wasn't just Treloar, Stepho and Phillips, we also cut Langdon, Reid, Shaz, Beams, Varcoe, Dunn, Broomhead, Wills And replaced them all with kids on the minimum. It was a lot of money off the books.

You’re taking the piss with the same age comparison Jackcass. All those stats do is back up my point. Cameron scores more goals and takes more marks.

Here’s another, you can post this all you want.

Not denying Jackson is a talent with potential but I certainly wouldn’t pay the money being talked about here for potential.

It’s Molly thanks.

So now we know your post was just actually taking the piss. Cameron nowhere near Jackson.

And we know some old poster is living rent free in your head.

Yep, this.

only Gawn deserves massive money and paying Jackson on a few handy games is ridiculous.

Darcy is 24yo and led Freo to 4th on the ladder. He likely gets 500 - 600k a year and is better value.

Jackson won’t be the first player paid big bucks on potential. I’d guess he’ll stay at the Dees for a lot less than the offers apparently being thrown around to lure him away.

The way the Treloar situation was handled was nothing short of deplorable. Incredibly disrespectful to Adam and I feel for the guy.

Phillips was handled professionally and maturely.

I don't know if there's a whole lot of info around about how Stephenson was handled - my understanding is essentially the rumours were allowed to fester until Stevo called Buckley to ask what was going on and Buckley said to find a new home. That's a pretty cold way to handle things but didn't have the gaslighting and innuendo attached to the Treloar trade.

Bosenavulagi was a non-issue. He was out of contract, we hadn't offered him one. He was probably going to be delisted.

But in terms of whether the trades themselves were uncalled for - probably not.

I think Treloar was his own worst enemy. They’d tried to trade him the year prior so it shouldn’t have been a surprise.

Has Grundy been injured the entire 2020 and 2021 seasons?

“In business one usually keeps their word”. That’s hilarious.

Slow news week. "Hmmm is it possible Collingwood could build a cannibal kitchen the feed their supporters? Almost impossible? So youre saying theres a chance? We have our headline"

If a club offers a great deal and Brodie wanted it sure, do it. As several posters have said, I strongly doubt it will happen. If it does it would be decided after finals, so these stories are baseless "possibilities" only.

Anyone remember the run up to the 1990 GF? I recall the Sun (right before the merger) running a midweek fluff piece "Shaw Mystery Injury?" quoting unnamed sources about some possible trouble for our captain, then on the Friday "Shaw Fit To Play", there was zero story and it provided two headlines.

We definitely need a decent Ruckman given Cox’s age. A Rookie doesn’t really cut it, so we’ll need to pay $400k, as others have also suggested.
Plenty of good ruckman started as rookies?

So your aware the salary cap is not in control? We already got rid of the players we needed too with Treloar etc. We now trade Grundy and then in 12 to 18 months time we will need to trade another ruckman into the club on probably $400k - $500k....That makes sense...
It is to get back Salary Cap space - so you have space available for future buying/trades.
Grundy's contract is way too long and at his (2023) output he is way overpaid.
Treloar's last year of the 300k contribution is 2024 - that also was bad management.
We already have 3 ruckmen on the list and we can trade/draft another in the next 2 years if we can trade Grundy at the end of this season.
Grundy is not a match winner so should not be paid as one - that is a waste and eats into your available Salary Cap.

AFL PLAYER wages for the 2021 season increased 38 per cent on the COVID-19-ravaged 2020 year, with the average salary for a listed player rising to $372,224.

Three players received more than $1.2 million last year. Six earned more than $1 million.

>> CHECK OUT THE FULL TPP SUMMARY BELOW

The three players on more than $1.2 million in 2021 were believed to be Dustin Martin, Lance Franklin and Jeremy McGovern, with Nat Fyfe and Brodie Grundy understood to be on more than $1 million. Others believed to have earned around the seven-figure mark were Josh Kelly, Jeremy Cameron, Patrick Dangerfield and Patrick Cripps.

Last year's Norm Smith medallist Christian Petracca and Tiger forward Tom Lynch have deals which will could see them join the million-dollar-a-season club in 2022.

The total player payments across the 18 clubs were $233.9 million, a 37.5 per cent increase on the COVID-19-hit 2020 season, which saw players paid $170.0 million as the League grappled to contain the financial damage caused by the pandemic.

The 2020 total player payments were 30 per cent down on the 2019 figure of $242.3 million, which remains the high-water mark for player remuneration. The 2021 figure of $233.9 million presents similarly to the 2017 season, when players were paid a total of $231.3 million.

FANTASY PRICES Million-dollar men unveiled

And in 2017, there were nine million-dollar footballers compared with the six of 2021.

Remarkably, there were more players earning $1.2 million or more in 2012 (four) than there were in 2021 (three).

So we’ve been front loading some of Brodies contract. Good news.
