I don't have much of issue with McStay but like others, the deal that's been speculated on is woeful and he's never demonstrated that he's worth that. I also don't think the line of "well that's just what you have to pay to get a free agent" makes the deal any more palatable.

I think there's a level of quasi-gaslighting going on by being told to "just trust Fly and Wrighty, they know best." Maybe they do have some master plan but just accepting in blind faith is a recipe for disaster.

I feel that with some people here that are fans of the McStay deal, they've fallen in love with the idea of getting him and aren't looking at it critically at all because to be critical of it means not being a true supporter, or they have to be really positive towards someone who's going to be one of our own.

If the media came out with an article that said we've gone cold on him, those same people would drop him like a rock. They just go with the flow of the club.

What if he accepts minimum salary with a future assistant coaching role?

I thought the biggest issue with Wright was the fact that Gold Coast had massively bloated his contract - in the year we were moving on Treloar, Stephenson and Phillips for cap space we couldn't take on Wright's massive deal without Gold Coast agreeing to pay some? Essendon only parting with a future fourth would indicate they took on the vast majority of his deal.

Loyalty , spare me , be it individual player or clubs , loyalty is conditional upon performance or non performance, monetary invested for below expected performance return both ways . I don’t support individuals. I support the Club , most players don’t give a shit when they lose , it’s the supporters who feel it , take a look after the final siren, losing players are smiling , giving their opponents nice teddy cuddles , whisper sweet nothings into each other’s ears . It’s a business to them . nothing more , nothing less .
