That means we'd have $600k spare - which leaves enough for McStay.

There's a lot of rumour mill around so I think it's best to take most things with a grain of salt until otherwise known for sure. I remember joking on a Fox Footy chat that Stephenson was a lock to leave for Brisbane (in 2019) only to be told that it was stupid and he never would leave the Pies.

I reckon we have more money than people think we do right now

After his transformation, he was a solid contributor and worth the money. Should have, along with many others, had a premiership medal around his neck.
He was a solid contributor but still wasn’t worth the money and one of the big reasons our ball movement was so stagnant under Bucks.

What a series of contradictions, do you think Reg doesn't fit a need? And I doubt he was staggered by his contract but rather knew exactly what it was when he got the job. Like all good footy managers he would listen to other clubs but not be obliged to do anything that won't make the club better. And after watching Draper smash DC making him the no1 ruck option doesn't make us better.

What's the contradictions? Of course he fits a need, did l say he doesn't or that Wright just wants to get rid of him as a first option?
Obviously the club is looking at options regarding the contract, hence why we're hearing, and they seem pretty strong rumours, that the club will be looking/listening at options to move the contract on, or what we are hearing now, maybe looking at reducing the contract someway monetary wise, which l prefer, rather than moving Grundy on.
They must identify the contract, in its current state, could be a hindrance to us getting other talent into the club.

I think the only issue most people have with Mcstay the forward is that we’ll be investing several list spots on these “3rd tall forwards”.

  • Mcstay
  • Mihocek
  • Kreuger
  • AJ
  • Henry

This doesn’t include possibly playing Cameron as the KPF/2nd ruck. Cox triggering a clashes for another year in his contract.

7 players to essentially fill 4 spots on a weekly basis?

Unless, we think Henry is going and then it doesn’t look as bad.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kreuger is asked to move back to the backline.
Be nice to have a bit of depth for a change.

McCreery McStay Mihocek
Elliott Cameron Johnson/Henry
I/C Ginnivan
Krueger possibly back. Hoskin-Elliott and Cox depth

As much as I disliked Mayne early on here, he turned into a very handy player by the end

A very handy player who completely crippled our ball movement and made scoring impossible for our forwards, and is the complete antithesis to the new coach’s philosophy which has taken us from 17th to 4th on the ladder.

… but yes, handy.

He
If the options being presented are, “reduce your contract and stay, or receive the agreed dollars and we trade you”, if I am Brodie I would be saying bye bye.

He’s a bit of a different cat though. Am sure his agent would advise him like you, but he’s already made loads, and seems to love the boys

I'm not going to blame Mayne for the failings of Buckley and those involved in giving him all that money.

I personally could not stand the way he played. My posts in various game threads back that up. But he was loved by the group and was a great role model in terms of training and preparation. I think that's worth crediting

Wasn’t Buckley.

Wasn’t Buckley, was gubby. Bucks aired his disapproval publicly

There is no way he settles for that, not after 4*800 was on the table.
If the contract rumours are true, I don't understand the club's logic on this one. If he was still worth a top dollar contract before Bali, with his string of previous news stories, how has the Bali news story changed things so significantly.

The camel was limping badly before the final straw broke it's back - it was no longer a highly prized workhorse. But JDG was flying with a big contract offer before this straw landed.

I was talking about the gameplan aspect of the criticism.
Game plan had nothing to do with his handballing or passing to another player that was hotter than he was.

He might be a nice guy, trained well and liked by team-mates but for me it was what he did on the field that mattered more.

He was gutsy, won the ball, tried hard but panicked under pressure.

Not what we needed at the time.

Him being risk-averse and doing those things is, in my opinion, definitely part of the reason why Buckley played him so frequently.

One of Buckley’s failings was the constant selection of Mayne.

Sorry don't agree as the cupboard was pretty bare.
