We would need at least a first rounder for Taranto and maybe a sweetener if it’s a late first rounder. What do you think Henry would net us?
From what he has shown we would want at least what our initial outlay was for him. So late first rounder

Are there still nuffies out there who think we can’t match any bid and force a trade?
Yep and the nuffies will probably be right. Danger and Cameron were reqired players who wanted out, different senario.

Are you aware of any case where a club either doesnt offer or low balls a RFA and then when the player gets the bigger offer from a rival suddenly the home club decides to stump up and match. Unlikely.

Walking the player to the pre season draft would suddenly be on the cards especially or DeG might say great, always wanted to stay at that price I'll take the contract.

Reckon successfully trading for a RFA the club had previously pushed out is an unlikely senario

I can’t agree with that, Mayne’s time with Collingwood coincided with time the cupboard was least bare since the Malthouse era.
Think that was what I was saying, bare or least bare was not what we needed at the time... .

Three really bad trades - Wells, Mayne then Beams. Big money there.

looking forward to all the front runners saying 'Ppl who think he needs to go dont know anything about football" doesn't change a thing, no one questions his talent just not consistant and off field trouble is too much to bare especially if we sign him for more than 3 years above 700k.

Yeah and he still didn't earn the contract
Didn't realise you paid him out of your own pocket. He was overpaid, sure, but he was neither our most overpaid player (Wells) nor the player we overpaid for in terms of trade (Beams). If we had won that flag, as we should have, then nobody would give a flying **** what Mayne was paid. And we didn't win for lack of Mayne busting his gut.

Wells was worth a punt … maybe for two years rather than three but that’s what have to do to attract a free agent. . Absolute silk when on the park and was a 245 game player coming off an injury free year, joining us when we were in the premiership window.

Mayne was the opposite and also what we needed…. A hardened body and a very durable reliable player. Had a good career at Collingwood.

Beams was an absolute disaster and a Maguire folly. The best thing to be said about it is that it was the catalyst for change …and ironically has helped us get to where we are with an invigorated list (partly necessitated by the salary cap dump), new President and board, and new coach, coaching staff and game plan.

His legal costs have set the club back a lot. That includes the costs of lawyers and the associated bad publicity. So it's fair that he's on $500k.

Another of the great fantasies that circulates about De Goey - that the Club would have paid his legal fees. You know that would go to our salary cap?

Try again.

Like he'd even need to pay for a lawyer - look at all the free legal advice Cloudy gives him

Interesting in regards to DeGoey being offered a low ball contract, I'm pretty sure I said this (people choose to argue) and I'm still very sure he doesn't sign that even though he is desperate to stay.

If we move on Grundy I reckon we could do a lot worse than bringing in Brayden Crossley as a back up. Only 22(looks 40) a man mountain and cheap as chips. Would need some conditioning but clearly has talent imo

Not with his Off-Field troubles

Even accounting for the grief brought upon the club by the off-field stuff and his varying output over time, $500k is significant unders for a player of his ability and performance.

I think a reduction with triggers that would bring him closer to market value is appropriate.

Not a free agent but Sydney did similar with Sam Murray when they learnt of our interest.
