No you're right, throwing away the next 5 years of cap space on a middling spud makes much more sense.

Next year we will have Mihocek, Kreuger, Henry/Johnson and Cameron. The KPF draftee, developing in the VFL, will most likely replace Mihocek in a couple of years. Our team may well be challenging at that stage - we add a gun KPF through FA to top off the forward line.

Today’s match was the first time I‘ve thought there’s something to work with regarding McStay. Has a good tank by the look of it and is a good field kick for a big fella. Seems to be playing a very sacrificial role with the Lions, so you’d assume he wants a move to assert himself in a more traditional KPP role. Also looks like he could play either end of the field and take the occasional ruck contest.
Yes, the mooted 5 year contract seems generous. You’d think both Macrae and Leppitsch would still have some good info coming out of the Brisbane organisation and the way some of our players have improved in a short time under the current regime it doesn’t seem as dubious a choice as I first thought.

$600k is not that much money these days. $400k is average.
Desperately need depth.

We also have the possibility of Begg and McMahon developing into quality kpps. No reason why in time the forward line couldn’t be their go. Kelly too although for him time unfortunately is ticking.. but if he manages to stay on the list you never know …might be the next Murphy.

If McStay does come next year, and if Krueger can stay injury free, we will have a forward line of absolute workhorses with Mihocek included. May not take too many contested marks, but at least they will continue to present and provide a contest for the whole game

I think we have some prospects amongst the kids we have drafted. It’s going to take a couple of years, as they come into the side replacing our ageing senior players, to determine what we end up with.

Our footy department will need to keep a close eye on their development, so as to determine the type of players to draft/recruit to ‘complete the puzzle’.

Yes I’ve been saying this all year. Our recruitment has to be very selective and we need to ensure we are covering gaps rather than blocking progress. The most important thing the recruiters must do this year is properly asssess our vfl talent.

Henry needs to fit in somewhere, is the most talented of the three tall’s. It will be interesting to see how our forward line will look like next year, if McStay & Hill join us.

I thought I made it clear in my projected forward line that Henry and Johnson would be in the VFL, as McStay would take his place in the side as a KPF with Kreuger and Cameron.

Mihocek would be the general forward, more in keeping with his height.

In all likelihood Cameron, Mihocek and McStay will have retired when we play in our next Grand Final.

We need a block of stone at full back, apparently McStay is it. Makes sense to free up Moore who has missed Roughhead. Age profile is excellent, only Howe is near the end.

I think the mids are developing so fast we might not need tl trade in too much there? Maybe a bullock is what we need as we seem light inside. I dont see the next Dangerfield in the market though. (*Sheds a tear for Bear and what coodabeen). Lots of young and old, so change is guaranteed and obvioudly you take talented mids if availanle.

We have the best ruck division around. We seem to be a net exporter. Age seems fine.

Forwards? We seem to smalls and mediums coming out our ears. The KPF are 2 rucks and Mihocek, plus Elliot. We need Kreuger fit, is that likely? Honestly if we traded hard for a KPF I'd understand. Age is OK.
