Look at the stats with and without Grundy. The reason we are getting smashed in clearances is because he’s our leader in that stat. We need more inside mids more than getting rid of an AA ruckman.

I'd be interested in data on the outcomes of Grundy's clearances. Lots of miscued sky balls that gain little territory and end up with the opposition is my perception. Are the additional clearances that we get beneficial?

Seems we’ve missed Taranto given we’re now looking at other options. Would have been handy to have another clearance mid who can go forward. McInnes has the potential to fill that role down the track though.

Mitchell seems more his management sounding out other clubs rather than as chasing him. Was Jolly the last we got in a similar manner?

Would be handy and a good fit, but for mine at 29 either the hawks would need to pay a significant amount of his reported 800k in ‘23 or he’d need to sacrifice dollars.
More than one way to skin a cat, Hawks to pay 100k of his wage next year on the proviso we offer him 2 years at 1 million, that makes it 500kpa for us which is reasonable.

If the murmurings of Jackson signing a new 2 year deal with the Dees are true then the most likely option for Grundy to move might have disappeared
Maybe he remains a pie after all

These post are always funny. People want the star recruit for the sugar high. Not for what is means. Only one of your players has won a grand final despite all going to contending teams. We also signed Beams and Treloar who were huge gets at the time, but your using hindsight to judge them. Jack Crisp could just be about the best trade get in our history, but he's not on the front cover of magazines so it's not good enough.

Truth is, Hawks, Richmond and Dogs all lost arguably their biggest star the year before they won grand finals. They brought in players who were not "stars" but are now premiership players.

Beams? I hope you mean trading Beams OUT - which was a real coup trade because we got pick 5 (DeGoey), Crisp and Greenwood in return. I would rate it one of the best trades we’ve ever done. Unfortunately we then gave back all that advantage by bringing Beams back at the exorbitant price of two first rounders. Shocker.

I think Mitchell salary is negotiable… has two remaining years on a big contract but the club might offer him 3 years plus games trigger for a 4th and backload more of the salary 🤷‍♀️

For the right trade price and contract length… I’m keen on Mitchell

Gives Macrae and reef time to develop into centre mids

Covers for the inevitable Adams injury every 8 -10 weeks

And is a ready to play centre mid option that doesn’t have Brown as a last name
Agree. 2 of Macrae, reef and draper should make it as the engine room of our side in 2-3 years.
But we desperately need someone ready made in the meantime

I think mitchell - despite weaknesses - would be a very capable role player as a pure extractor
people worrying about his non-damaging possessions should be assured - they wont even require him to get those possessions under our gameplan and role. just get to bottom of pack and get it to the better guys.

If we are going to bring in Tom Mitchell then I really hope we’re sending Grundy to Hawthorn, with a fair swap of picks and a little juggling of dollars. That’s the only way we’ll get anything close to fair value for Grundy.

If we trade Grundy to a club other than hawthorn, it will be on Treloar-like, fire-sale terms. The other clubs all know we’re a forced seller and will play hardball on picks and dollars, knowing that in the end we’ll be forced to capitulate.

Also, I hate the idea of us trading Grundy on poor terms to make premiership contenders Geelong/Melbourne stronger.

Mate, you’re clutching at straws. Stop grasping at false hope.
I would have thought 'grasping at false despair' would have more accurately described what he was doing.

If Mitchell story is true, I think CB and TB are definitely gone.

I think a lot depends on the "Hawthorn would have to pay part of his salary" bit. Basically the reverse of our Grundy situation.
Hasn’t he only got a year left? Better enough to smooth that over a few years rather than pissing away a higher pick.

Why would Grundy be interested in Hawthorn?
Why wouldn't he be? After all, he has all but scoffed at the worth of premierships, so going to a team unlikely to win one shouldn't be much of a deterrence.

Scoffed?
Please elaborate.
I thought he was simply stating that a Premiership wouldn’t define him (as a person).
Would he like to win one…I’m sure he would.

That actually sucks.
If it absolved us of paying out $300000 to another team and Mitchell came at $700000, while we would still be blowing a lot of money on a somewhat elderly player, it's not that much worse than some of the projected scenarios I have read in here.

Of course, we've not had a lot of luck with drafting 29 year old inside mids. I would be checking that Mitchell brings with him no talent for nor interest in creating art work works of any kind.

Whilst I squirm at the mention of mental health, I'd be going over his with a fine tooth comb. I am sure we have some suitably qualified folk in white coats who would leave no stone unturned in determining that his mind is operating on all available cylinders.

If we traded Grundy to Hawks for Mitchell and a pick, I wonder if that negates us having to pay some of Grundy’s wage, seeing tho Hawks are willing to pay some of Mitchell’s (according to Fox).

Wouldn’t make sense to both pay each other. We just cover Mitchell and they cover Reg. Simples.

At the very least you’d think we’d only have to cover 100k of Reg’s wage instead of up to 300k to the Dees/Handbaggers.

Get it done Wrighty.

Hi - I'm doing work experience with the List Manager - how can I help?

I wouldn't be entertaining Mitchell, not because I don't think he would suit our needs, but he will simply cost too much either by trade cost or what we will need to include in our salary cap.

I’m all for it. Gives us the extractor we need whilst in the window while MacRae/Reef/Draper develop. As long as we don’t blow our cap.

Grundy out hopefully gives us the $ and the TPP is going up as much as 25% in the next CBA they reckon.

Nek minnit.. Flagpies.
