Henry’s hardly in a position to demand a guaranteed Best 22 spot at Collingwood or Geelong. Nobody is! It’s laughable (and a bit petulant) if that’s what he’s holding out for.

It's not petulant, or laughable, it's his choice. Just like it's Bruhns choice, who surprisingly people aren't assassinating his character for possible leaving. Maybe Henry never wanted to come to the Pies, who knows. If he wants to leave, then see ya later. About 50 players making that choice. It's not a crime to leave the pies. It's just footy.

So, where will he go to achieve that?

I think he’ll end up at the Hawks, Roos or the Bummers. I don’t think he’s at the “I’m best 22 level” yet, however, his manager and himself think that’s what he deserves. He won’t go to Geelong. He’ll end up in the same position.

It can’t be money because if he was hassling over 50k/100k, I feel we would have caved and given in especially with Grundy leaving.

You don’t lose a Ollie level talent for an extra 50k/100k. That’s irresponsible.

Players potentially out with estimated cap space.

Madgen = $300k
Roughy = $400k
C Brown = $275-300k
T Brown = $275-300k
Oliver = $185k ( offer probably $275k atm )
Grundy = $750-800k ( subject to Jackson trade, also my mail is Pies have only offered $100k payment towards wages.I’ve factored in $200-250k per year)
McMahon = $150k
Kelly = $185k
Sidebottom reduced salary = $250k
Pendles reduced salary = $100k
WHE = $375k
Poulter = $185k
Bianco = $200k.

Players potentially in and estimated salary:

I have JDG locked in on around $800k on similar money maybe up $50-75k on current.

Hill = $325-350k ( 3rd round pick )
Frampton = $300k ( 3rd Round pick)
McStay = $600-650k ( FA )
Griffen Louge : $500-550k
Mitchell = $450k payable by Pies over 3 years ( Hawks pay $350k of 2023 salary ) pick between 30-45.
Others as they come to light.

Current players upgraded contracts for next year:

Moore = $125k
Maynard = $150k
Others $500k.

New media deal with pending TPP upgrade in 2 years?

Estimate TPP increase per year at $1.5m

Current pies on longer term contracts will be able to back end based on new TPP increase. Also McStay could be $400k for first 2-3 years with $750 k final years with new TPP allowance.

If Oliver goes and Grundy we should get probably 2x firsts and a second round pick depending on the strength of the best first round pick supplied.
This should give us with our current picks plenty or get a Griffen Louge in as he’s the one after McStay I’d be after.

Draft the best available Inside mid and KPF.
Bianco has a contract for next year. He hit a trigger.

If you re-read my post, I said it is laughable/petulant IF he’s asking for a Best 22 guarantee. I find it very hard to believe that’s the case. Surely no 2nd year player makes such a demand?

I think the more likely answer is that he just wants to play elsewhere.

They play slightly different roles though.

Hill v Ginni more likely competing in 2023

I agree it’s different roles, but he’s also different to AJ. AJ can crash packs land on his feet and hit someone up for a goal.

Ollie needs a couple is strings to his bow. He either needs to be more reliant in crashing packs or tackling.

Collingwoods salary cap is still a borderline disaster

I don’t believe it’s as bad as he’s saying, but it was always going to take a number of years to fix. Not just 2020.

Thank goodness we moved on a number of key people that influenced this, we are in good hands with the new brigade.

Funny to look back and think how much crap we were fed at the time and anytime it comes up with the old President is on Footy Classified. Absolute jokers.

Just to muddy the waters a bit, I reached out privately to an AFL journo who has particularly good links to Collingwood, and he still thinks Henry will stay despite the money being the sticking point.

I think he stays.

We have the right coaching group to support a young player. Some of the players he is competing with are at the other end of their careers, opportunity will open up.

Yep. Unfortunately, I doubt Elliott and Mihocek will have particularly long careers. I'd hope that Henry could raise his endurance and play a different role to become more rounded whilst he's developing.

Me too.
And its not official until its official of course, so hopefully something changes. But it's not looking good unfortunately.
Did the source have any insight into why he’s leaving - is it just money?
I know you’ve said in the past he loves the club and his team mates.
Has that changed?
