Grundy the player has a pretty high value, but it's pretty clearly a salary dump situation. His trade value will be dependent on how much of his salary we manage to dump. Probably not even worth speculating on the trade price without knowing the salary half of it.

Fair

Simple fact is.

Henry cannot get a game at the moment.
His pathway to games becomes murkier with McStay most likely coming.

He obviously believes he's good enough to warrant automatic selection. If another team's pitch involves a game plan with him featuring in the best 22 permanently he'd be crazy not to consider it.

He doesn't owe us a damn thing.
We just picked his name from a crop of kids because we saw potential and he's served his initial contract.

If Ash Johnson hadn't have taken his opportunity with both hands Henry would probably be playing finals.

I like Henry's attributes, I think he could be a solid 30-40 goal forward and at times be able to turn a game. I would like him to stay and work on his defiencies but I certainly won't begrudge someone if they believe they deserve more opportunities and a club is willing to facilitate that.

Now in saying all that.
First rounder and Narkle pls.
After Parfit was dropped I’d be monitoring whether or not he gets back into the side. I’d be asking for him instead of Narkle.

Lol McClure
The same guy who was adamant JDG would not be at Collingwood and now is back pedalling.

If he said they just don’t want Grundy I’d believe him and want that contract gone

But the whole cap still a disaster?
Sure that’s why we have been chasing McStay, Hill, Taranto etc…

So much so a disaster that we resigned Maynard and Moore earlier this year to boot too….

He's just doing his job. Rule #1 of footy journalism: if you can, include a piece about Collingwood. If you can't, make one up because people will click on it.

A11; is Jackson any chance of staying on at the Dees? I would assume the interest in Grundy would wane if so.

In terms of Grundy to Melbourne I really don't see how it works. Gawn can play a bit fwd but Grundy can't (not like Jackson can). Not sure why you'd play a multiple AA ruck (Gawn) out of best position. I understand the need to replace Jackson with a ruck; just doesn't feel like BG is a good fit. You already have talls who can't get into the squad (TMac, Weidemann, Tomlinson etc). I'd be sticking with Gawn in ruck at 75% with a TMac type etc as the pinch hitter. Hawks/GWS/Port etc would be great fits for BG but it sounds like he doesn't want to go there.

Jackson no chance imo, our interest in Grundy would indicate so

10000% agree. I think Ratugolea would be a far better fit than Grundy. Im sick of us using Gawn as a forward, that novelty has worn off.

Lol Ratugolea doesn't know how to kick a football, will be delisted within 2 years.

Yet he is a better forward than Grundy. Hence why he would be a better fit.

Dont be a simpleton and think im saying Ratu is better than Grundy, hes clearly not, use your brain. Its no different to Cox playing forward for you guys over Grundy.

Yeah you need a replacement back up ruck/fwd (if Jackson goes) not an A grade pure ruck. Not sure Ratugolea is your man though. If Rory Lobb wants to come to come East (most likely Dogs) think you'd be better off chasing him. Could tie it into Jackson move.

I don't rate Gawn as a fwd either. Takes a good mark up there but his kicking for goal is very yippish. Correct me if I'm wrong but that one game he blew the game apart and kicked 6 odd he did so from ruck position; not as a fwd.

Gawn's forward work is worse than Cox's. Yes, Gawn has impacted games as a forward but Cox has a more accurate kick. A few games this year, I felt as if Gawn was going to unleash but his inaccuracy cost him.

Hoping van Rooyen solves our KPF issues next year, has been very impressive in the VFL, should have played by now but we have a stubborn coach unfortunately

Again missing the point entirely, I want Gawn to primarily play in the ruck. As I said in the post above that one he sucks as a forward. Bringing in Grundy does nothing to solve any of our forward issues.

Pies will get a first and a second for Grundy and we will pay probably 100k tops.
Don't believe what you read in the media.
Otherwise we will.keep Grundy.
Your window is closing my friend, you will lose to Brisbane tomorrow and that will be straight sets.

I really do not get the infatuation with Gawn as a deep forward. He is so influential when he's in the ruck and dropping back to intercept mark. It makes me a bit more confused about the interest in Grundy, as both are best suited to spending more time in the ruck.

Any chance you guys want Darcy Cameron instead? :p

Yeah, I don't understand why you're looking at Brodie. To me, Gawn's best footy is ruck dropping back to help make the aerial route impenetrable.

Geez you guys are going to be disappointed when you see what the Grundy trade actually is. Just prepare yourselves for less than van Rooyen and a first, that's all I ask.
So that's great its been completed - embarrassing that a board member, assuming that's who you are or Dees just a bunch of amateurs, why else would they post on BF?

It was pointing that way but a bummer to have some confirmation.

Hope we get a decent trade deal and that Henry’s not another Aish, who showed glimpses at Collingwood then blossomed elsewhere.

Personally I doubt he will succeed as a medium-sized marking forward. Very few do at AFL level because it’s one of the toughest roles going. More chance as an intercepting defender.

Aish was a solid role player at Collingwood and he’s still a solid role player at Freo. Let’s not pretend that he’s blossomed in to something particularly special since he left the pies please.

Or we would be stupid to do it at all. Mitchell doesn't suit our gamestyle, would take up cap room and stunt the development of Nick Daicos who will be playing in his midfield spot sooner rather than later not to mention our other young mids. Then you're stuck with a ineffective player in decline who can't play anywhere else. And why use even a third on him when the Hawks are trying to give him away.
Hang on a minute, Mitchell is a pure inside mid, that’s not the role Nick will ever be used for. If anything they compliment each other. We need another extractor in the guts to feed it out to our classy users, whether it’s Mitchell or someone else. Using Nick as a reason to not recruit Mitchell, or any other inside mid for that matter, makes no sense.

Not a board member, just a realist who understands how the system works when contract dump players are involved in trades.

He's done the same role at Freo as he did to the Pies. Good enough to be best 22 each week, has a few starring roles but otherwise another one of the masses.
