I don’t think it’s as bad as Treloar but we are still forced sellers of a player with injury question marks. And only one known bidder.

The club won’t keep Grundy. His list spot and saved salary is already being committed to others. There’s no way back from here, other than Grundy volunteering to take a big pay cut, which ain’t gonna happen.

I sincerely hope you are correct and will be very happy for you to rub my nose in it if that’s the case. But I wouldn’t swap our positions in this debate.

We are not forced sellers by any stretch, and therefore will not be low balled.
And what are Grundy’s injury question marks ? Complete recovery from PCL is the rule not the exception, and certainly no where near an ACL. And Greenwood broke ( not fractured) his ankle in his first season went to a very good career with out issue.

Why is everyone acting like Grundy must take a pay cut? He's in contract he doesn't have to leave or take a single cent paycut.

Let's flip it for a second - what if we had a player on a low $ contract and they were completely dominating and they demanded a pay increase mid contract? What would you all say? You'd say tough shit.

This has become the Grundy trade thread…booooring! Let’s make up shit about other things so it can get exciting.

By the way - any pick in the first round will do. He is cooked!

The change in ruck rules should have enhanced his strength when in his only 2 good year he used to grab the ball and punt it!

The guy is finished- we can’t pay 1 million for a ruckman that just can’t mark!

It's a media generated assumption that the club is shopping Grundy around - we don't actually know for sure.
It's also been reported that he wants to stay at Collingwood.
We don't actually know our salary cap situation or exactly what Grundy is paid, or how the payments are structured.
Personally, I would prefer he stays, but there are so many moving parts to deal with.

I imagine GWS will want their 1st rounder for Bruhn who has played more games and was a higher draft pick.
But he's also linked to north... So depends who Bruhn chooses.
I heard Bruhn to the Hawks ... maybe even on this board somewhere. It's crazy how players can be speculated across so many clubs.

My hope is that we will receive one of the first round selections that Melbourne receive for Jackson, be it Fremantle’s first or future first, or Melbourne’s future first. And I expect we will pay like $200k of his salary per year
This is the best result we can get for grundy

Why are you discounting his ability to get back to his best?
He’s only 28, and has every opportunity to improve under McCrae, as many others have on the list.

The “McCrae effect” is the big stumbling block you critics have in suggesting Grundy can’t improve.

Hmmm, let’s see…..he has been sidelined for most of the season with a torn posterior cruciate ligament and then stress fractures in his ankle. And his role relies on him being able to repeatedly jump in the air and crash knees-first into other 100kg+ giants. And none of the potential buyers will have seen him play a single game since suffering those injuries. Yet you think they should pay top dollar and high draft picks to take over the remaining five years of his contract in the hope that he can get back to form of 3 years ago?

I fear you will end up extremely disappointed about the deal we end up striking.

You conveniently forget that Gawn has done 2 ACL’s and had PCL injuiry and still killing it.
Adam Goodes played with PCL injury much of the later part of his career.
As I said Greenwood had a broken ankle which is far worse than stress fractures, that didn’t impede his subsequent career.

So sorry, but the injury narrative you’re proffering is complete bunkum.

Gunston wasn't good because of Hawthorn. Hawthorn were good because of Gunston. 11 goals in 3 finals in 2013, 4 goals in two of his grand final wins. Smart, strong, versatile, top leader - champion player.

Because his team and game style allowed him to get off the chain. Hawks were excellent at team blocks and selfless play and dummy leads.

Strong compared to who? he was largely a 3rd tall for most of it.

He was a good player but extremely overrated on here and your post proves it. He made the Hawks good not the other way with 17 players getting carried by him.

Must be why he was a Coleman medallists or set marking records or goal assists etc. He had a purple patch couple seasons the rest were average.

You talk him up like he is Gary Ablett senior.

The potential buyers won’t see it that way. They’ll certainly be arguing those injury risks in negotiations to push down the price. As would you and I both if the roles we reversed.

You are clearly very emotionally invested in this, believing that we hold the winning cards. I don’t believe that but can see I won’t convince you. Good luck we’ll see how it all ends up.

The contract is a card. We'll only trade him if we feel the trade works for us. What that means depends on how we value him. That may be most of the contract gone and nothing in return. Or it might mean only half the contract but a lot in return. Or anything in between. **** knows how valuable our or Melbourne's list crew think he is.

If the sellers used such naive and transparently false, justifications they would be laughed at, and not taken seriously.
It would be grossly embarrassing for them to try such unprofessional tactics.
I would be an amateur hour bluffing strategy.

Of course you can’t convince me because the injury narrative is completely silly.

I’m not a massive fan of Bruhn, as I’m still unconvinced of his ability to be a decent full time AFL midfielder. He also lacks versatility to play other positions.

However I wonder if the club is thinking of bundling Hill and Bruhn together.

2022 First round + 2x 2022 Third rounds > Bruhn & Hill

We should be allowed to trade the 2021 first round pick again, as we stuffed it up so badly the first time.

Lmao people need to shut up about VanRooyen. He’s contracted, highly rated, and plays in a desperate area of need for the Demons. They’re not including him in any deal.

I watch the first half of the Bris - Mel game. McStay looked to be a liability. I reckon I saw him get 5 kicks, 4 of them ended up uncontested on the chest of the opposition. He also looked slow and a bit lacking in agility.

What are we doing...?

Did you watch the second half?

You keep saying we are the forced sellers. Yet Grundys management have stated and it was reported again this week that they went to the Pies and advised Grundy wanted to explore his options. It was then reported we would assist him to get to where he wanted to go but it had to satisfy the Pies.

Great! I hope you’re right! But prepare yourself for the alternative too. One of us will look silly in a couple of months’ time. I hope it’s me.
