So the reason for Macca being sacked we agree was not football related - therefore the Dogs were right to sack him in your view.
Unless you know that Buckley is similarly the subject of a player revolt, then there is no comparison.
So why are you suggesting Buckley is being "protected"?

I think we have seen over the last few weeks with Haw and tonight with Geel, that holding off on rebuilding has its risks, even when you are blessed with a core of elite players.

So I think Buckley is being vindicated with his foresight to begin the rebuild early, because we did not have the elite depth of either Hawks or Geel.

So I'm very keen to understand why you lament that he is being "protected", because he's been vindicated in starting the rebuild early and therefore that can't be the reason.

No we aren't. I'm suggesting that he didn't have what it took to be a senior coach. The art of being able to bring a group together to get them to execute your vision is a football nuance. The greatest football brains don't always make great coaches because sometimes they don't get why others don't understand the game the way they do.

He's being protected whenever people put together waffle to explain where our list and club is at and compare it to the brilliance of another, but fail to acknowledge a key component in their turnaround that was the change in coach. The reality is the list rebuild was fine and its just underperforming. Buckley was gifted one final shot to get it together much to my chagrin.

It's in everyone's best interests that ge figures it out, but he hasn't so far after 100 plus games and five years at the helm. Unfortunately he won't be around for the spoils which is a huge shame!

I am hopping Geelong pursue Wells in a more agresive manner after there CATastrophic perfomance.
Wont mind at all if Geelong beat us to the punch with Wells 31 yr old.

They are already carrying too many old blokes, they would be stupid to add Wells.

Taylor, Enright, Hawkins, Bartel, Mackie & Lonergan all look cooked

I know Hawkins is only 28 but he is going down the same path as Travis
Agree not sure how people can say travis needs to lose weight to get with the game when he still covers 15k, Hawkins looks a lot bigger, pretty sure he doesn't cover 15k in a season.:D

Brett Anderson mentioned on SEN yesterday that North Melbourne due to the contract offer from Collingwood to Wells that the compensation is high enough for them not to want Nathan Brown as a free agent. They may look to make a trade to not effect the compensation in any way. This will then give us compensation for Brown we otherwise wouldn't have got.

Paying a higher wage now may help us gain some picks.

only 440 pages with comments of buckleys saving his ass by getting wells. Pretty sure gubby allen wouldn't be sitting there thinking what can I do to save buckley. He will be more worried about how he is going to look in a couple of years building another great team.

I'm sure he's thinking "why the f**k haven't these guys been drafting key position players?" Madness.

Holy shit it's almost like the club knows what it's doing.
* Just so you know deck that wasn't directed at you *

He managed the "art" of bringing the team together with outstanding performances against the best this year, which was a substantial improvement on last year. The inconsistency due to injuries, youth and inexperience plague all teams, regardless of the coach.

The locker room was difficult to win over due the MM legacy, and this was a major hinderance that any reasonable person would accept.
Had Bevo inherited this poisoned atmosphere he to would have struggled.

So this "nuance" you talk of can only be judged when the disquiet re MM had dissipated, and not during the early years you are referring too.

At least we are agreed that Bucks was wise to rebuild early, and that ALONE should give people, the comfort that he is a far better judge than many have previously given him credit for.

Finally for every example of a coaching change being a panacia, history offers 10 with the opposite result.
The Richmond coaching merry go round prior to Hardwick is the test case as is Carlton.

And the logic of supporting the incumbent during difficult times has given Bomber, Choco and Clarko and their teams flags, and so in recent times this is a salient counter argument.

Who knows if this wasn't in the thinking all along? people inside footy clubs might just have a better idea than us!

This is just a bit funny.....
Found this zinger amongst the geelong trade board.

2. I think that you are right that we wouldn't trade Motlop for Deledio. Motlop is worth more as its a bit of a side step and Motlop is younger. In reality, Motlop will get a fat offer at the end of next year, so assuming compensation still exists, a first rounder should be coming Geelong's way. Geelong aren't going to let him go for a cheap price, given he is in contract and compensation awaits next year even if he is leaving. Hence, Geelong won't trade Motlop for Deledio IMO.

did I just read 1st rounder?

Read something on another thread which seems an idea thats to good to be true. (If allowed) which gave me the idea of the following.

Trade Witts for Second Rounder which is on-traded to GWS for WHE

Trade Pick 25 and our first round 2017 for GWS picks 16 (GWS picked up off Geelong) and GWS 15 or 17 or 18 (Depending on tomorrows result)

That way we can Draft a Griffin Logue and Patrick Kerr type and count that as 2 First Round picks to make it easier for trading moving forward.

Trade our 3rd and Jack Frost for Sam Reid (SYD)

Then we have the option to trade out 2 of the likes of Cloke/Blair/Oxley/Williams/Nathan Brown and even Broomhead etc for the points required for Daicos and Brown (Both will be late 2nd/Early 3rd Round picks)

Smart Move that could be. Get Wells and more for Brown
