You do know that "Goey" is also drug slang. You're a long way off if you think having the nickname Googs reflects badly on him.

I wouldn't read anything into this, in fact everyone can stop slandering the poor bloke. He is a gun and fully committed to being an AFL player. Rumours of him being "off the rails" and disliked by his peers are complete bollocks.
I'm over this conversation, no ones opinion is gonna change and the entire board has basically stated their opinion now

Oxley and Frost to Brisbane -3rd round pick
Witts to GC -2nd round pick
Williams to the Tigers for the Vickery compo

Pies gain as free agents Wells, Mayne, Henderson

Trade for WHE

This could be a decent trade period if we can package up some of these picks and move lower down the order.

apparently the Crows won't offer Ricky Henderson a new contract and are happy for him to walk

I've been on him for a while. I know we have a lot of talent down back, but we can't ignore that Scharenberg, Ramsey and Langdon are coming off significant knee injuries, Marley may be leaving, and Sinclair's concussions are now a real worry.

Henderson was Adelaide's best player in r22, yet still go dropped for the finals. We can get him as FA and relatively cheaply since the Crows have basically released him.

I'd love to add him to the list.

He has had an injury interrupted career, but has seemingly been fit this year, just couldn't cement himself into a very strong backline

Would be a nice fit even if its only for a couple years until Ramsay and Sharenberg come on.

Maynard and Henderson kicking over zones would be nice, very nice.

I think Lloydy has changed his tune a bit since writing that dads army article , he just said to a caller that Wells and mayne will be pretty good pickups lol I guess a leopard can change his spots:D

Yes I just turned radio on at work and heard this. I nearly fell off my chair. Think a few in the media might have changed their minds now finally realising just because Pies are linked to every uncontracted player each year does not mean we actually are after them..............

Only problem with the blokes you just named is that 3 of them have had serious injuries.

You could also argue that players like Wright, Lever, Laverde, Maynard, McClean and Miller have all done more and they were all taken after JDG.

The only players on that list that have potentially 'done more' than De Goey are Lever, Maynard and Miller....although I'd only take Lever ahead of De Goey right now.

Wright - Had a good year but still inconsistent and far from dominant. I think he will be a gun and long term will probably be ahead of De Goey.

Laverde - Injured, and failed to break into a team full of top-ups.

McLean - A premiership player granted, but only got his spot in the team as Jong go injured in the first week of finals.

De Goey is still far ahead of those guys.

I laughed when he listed Laverde. He's barely lived up to the expectations of a pick 20, yet he's somehow agruably performed better than JDG??? Wat?

3 year deal apparently from Hawthorn on decent money apparently. Similar to the Shaun Higgins deal from few years back.
Do you really think Hawks after 3 premierships have lots of cap space to overpay Vickery, especially when they are reportedly targeting guys like JOM & T Mitchell? If you apply a logic test to things you hear in the media this one fails IMO.

For me Sinner adds enough 1 v 1 so it does very much come down to where you want the ball turned over I'm also very bullish about Maynard's ability to win contests in D50.

IMO, Sinner's ball use is nowhere near as bad as advertised and with the game unfolding in front of him (frontal pressure) as opposed to it chasing him he's a reliable user.

Maynard is rough around the edges, but he'll hold his own in ground level one on one's its when he's isolated against smart players that are always on the move that he gets exploited. That's a system breakdown though. A good case to look at for Maynard was v Betts. He was solid when shoulder to shoulder with him, but got lost in transition because Betts is like a fire cracker withhis reactions.
For me, apart from the at times abysmal kicking, Sinclairs inability to stay injury free and stay on the park makes him a liability. I've said before, durability, or lack thereof is a badly underestimated player ability on this board. We need a settled back six and this will never happen with him in there. I loved the run and rebound that he was providing last year, it was something we were crying out for but I think it lead to an over-estimation of Sincers value tbh. His 1v1 defensive abilities are a big flaw. He gets beaten in a contest, especially in the air. Seems to not know how to get a fist to a ball. Other teams will know this, see the weak link and play to it. Happened with Maxwell then with Lumumba when he lost his 1v1 mojo.

I agree, and fits with our current strategy of recruiting Free Agents and getting as many 2nd round picks as possible (with a few late ones for Daics and Brown).

I keep seeing Ox packaged up in potential deals. My understanding is that he is contracted and very happy here, i can't imagine he will be a willing participant. The Queensland connection is very overplayed. If Frost were to become the 1st choice full back for the Brions (this is likely given the 3 year offer) surely that is worth them parting with a 3rd RP on his own (even if it is not their hope) ?
The others in your summation would be excellent.

Thanks - great comparison. Heeney attracts attention being in a premium side and having that blonde hair. JDG looks to be tracking very nicely

He also attracts attention for his talent and potential.

Both are going to be very good footballers.

How many spots will we have on our list to fill?

Toovs, Caff, Swan, Cloke, Frost, Witts... who else?

Will Keeffe and Thomas stay as Rookie listed players?
I think our strategy is to keep them rookies so that we have 6 spots to fill in the draft hence giving us 6 live picks to pick up brown and daicos plus one or two others in the draft and then upgrade them on the list and pick up a few in the pre season draft as rookies!
Not sure whether my strategy is within the rules though. I suspect that it is.

Wright's 27 goals 10 from 18 games in a weak suns line up makes him ahead of the others for mine... and off those stats he would've been the leading goal kicker at pies this year. Wright is a MUST target in next years trade period!

I agree with your Oxley logic, just it goes against people's desire to get rid of someone who hasn't offered us much TO someone who is struggling and thus may overpay. IMO Oxley offers us more once rest of the team is performing better. He's more an icing on the cake type player than the grunt to get us where we need to go. Even as icing he's still only depth at the moment when Reid, Howe and others are better at what he does and more complete players.

Personally I'd keep Keeffe, Thomas, Cox & Smith all on the rookie list and go with a main list of 38. Has advantages in recruiting the father sons we want, has salary cap benefits and makes them earn their spots - especially Keeffe & Thomas. No point upgrading them when they haven't played for 2 years and may not be up to it. We can then still nominate 2 most deserving rookies and use others for any LTIs.

But, but, but, he's a ruckman! Don't you know that he had some hitouts this year? That clearly means that he is a ruckman, and not a forward, regardless of how well he played in that position!
