Hawkins is in according to media reports. One less excuse for the Cats if we happen to win.

Everyone keeps raving about Melbourne's list. King has them premiers in 2023. Yet we, with our average collection of mediocre players have beaten them 6 of the last 7 meetings. This is nothing to sniffle at. As you rightly observed, every game against Collingwood is a big one for the opposition. They often get a crowd far bigger than they are used to and the hype preceding the Queens Birthday clash, particularly when both sides are up and about is huge. So, nobody can claim we caught Melbourne on a down day or say they were flat or unprepared.

We gave them a four-goal head start in both games last year and finished all over them on both occasions. So once again, we are simply the lucky bunch of battlers who have a go and give good value for their fan base in the eyes of most pundits. Sigh. Bring it on. Perhaps one day they will concede that beating Melbourne twice in 2022 suggests we have had their measure at least up until this year and I see no reason why we won't knock them over again come Queens Birthday.
I agree our wins over Melbourne are laudable, Bucks and Fly have both used our midfield and defence to rubber band them over the last decade.

Geelong mowed us down twice last year, because they were better coached. I think we match up well on them bit they behave a better balanced list ATM.

Our list has improved 10 to 20% in the off season IMHO aside from the ruck and likely McRae is maturing as a coach too.

We can win this and maybe should be favorites if Hawkins doesn't shape up.

Not sure about this - teams still haven’t completely unpicked Rich gameplan ( hence pundits believing they’re a threat again) which has been pretty consistent since 2017.
And our plan will evolve further with addition of Mitchell, Frampton and McStay.
I'm sure last year's game plan was based on no gun KPF and only 1 KPD. Our clearance stats were shite. So I hope the other clubs do structure their game plan against us on last years style. Coz, if they do, they'll be in for a bit of a shock IMO.

Given that we are debating the best back 6 or 7, I have an honest question:

I see Maynard as a very effective shut down defender, and versatile in that role, but where do you guys see his impact beyond that? I don't see him as great overhead, and not so great in counter-attack (I may be wrong). I honestly think Murphy could go past him.

Just to clarify, I think hes a great player, but impact may be over-rated. I think we see the opposite with Noble (judging by discussions) - a player with limitations but a huge impact in moving the ball for this team.

Also, I think Maynard is best 22, but just think it could be interesting for his role to develop further.

Hang on, you're questioning an AA defenders position in the side?

According to which media reports? Channel 9 reported him as unlikely and still training away from the main group yesterday…?

Every game vs Collingwood is a massive clash.

Hope we rise to the standard of the Premiers.

Geelong don't have a God tier list. Its been in the top group for a while (hence the cap route claims) but I feel Melbourne have a better list over the last 2 seasons.

Geelong do have a gun coach, which I hate to admit because he's so punchable. He's nearly as good as Dimma (who won more with a worse list) and more durable.

Hawkins is a massive out, irrwplaceable star no doubt, but a good coach should be able to cover many of the other holes.

If we win we should be proud, it'll be a good start.
Funny, I find Brad's face very punchable, but really like Chris Scott. Thank God he grew his hair so it was easier to tell when to hit mute.

Brad is a top bloke. Gives his time up to talk to supporters. Years ago he stopped and chatted to my children. Took photos with them and made their day.

Seriously, which media has reported him as in? It’s not that I don’t trust domus it’s that I don’t trust anyone who makes a claim like that without an actual reference.

On what planet are people, with even the meanest of intellects, not going to notice that we have McStay and Mitchell in our side??

I think he's suggesting that it'll be a different game plan, rather than the same plan done a touch better due to those additions. I think it'll be the same plan.

I know it's Geelong's home game this Friday, but interesting choice to have Selwood do his lap. Chris Scott admitted on the Couch tonight that Pies fans tend to make up the majority of the crowd regardless.

Almost feels like we're being set up for a finger wagging in the media because I can't imagine that Pies supporters are quite ready to give Selwood a respectful standing ovation.
