I know it's Geelong's home game this Friday, but interesting choice to have Selwood do his lap. Chris Scott admitted on the Couch tonight that Pies fans tend to make up the majority of the crowd regardless.

Almost feels like we're being set up for a finger wagging in the media because I can't imagine that Pies supporters are quite ready to give Selwood a respectful standing ovation.

No need to boo him now hes retired surely

I don't think, if sanity prevails at Geelong, that they will play Hawkins.
If he returns too early, he risks a serious setback. With a very limited preseason, he also risks being an ineffectual selection.
As a Pies fan, I hope they do select him, because he will not be a shadow of his real self.
Also, for this reason, I don't believe Frampton will/should play. Frampton was mediocre at best in the practice matches. Murphy is proven to be highly effective at AFL level. I would definitely have Murphy in and Frampton proving himself in the VFL. Hill, McStay, Mitchell all play.
Also, John Noble is top 22 and he will play. Our pace, with Noble, Hill, IQ burning down the grass, will be savage.
So, in conclusion, for me: only 3 of our 4 recruits play. Frampton is honing his skills in the VFL.
To be clearly at full strength, we are missing Patrick Lipinski and Ginni. The addition of Hill compensates for Ginni (though I would defintely like to have both in !) but there is less of a clear like for like replacement for Lipinski. I think we will need to select either Carmichael or McInnes to replace him, so that we maintain the midfield depth. The addition of Mitchell to our midfield opens up multiple possiblilities of JDG/Tay Adams slipping into our forward line, so we need to have the full complement of mids rotating through.
I think this game will be fantastic. I also think we will win.

I heard Crisp say Frampton is the king of bench presses at the club and he holds the record. He doesn't come across as particularly strong for his size.

We will win on Friday. While we are missing a couple of key contributors, the cats will be missing 4-5 best 22 players, which will be telling in the result.

Seems to be mixed reports on Hawkins, however my assumption is he does not play. Because of this, there is no matchup for Frampton. Noble / Murphy are better match ups against the smaller, quicker Geelong forward line.

We won't play a horses for courses defence. We'll set a defensive system to run with.

The media thinks otherwise. Their line up is very strong. If we win it will be a very good effort. They have great depth. Last year they were leaving superstars out so they could rest up for the finals series.

Yes, this is the team I would select (at least personnel wise, it is a 100% match).

While Howe wasn't there today, but the rest of the squad likely for round 1 looked like this.

Maynard. Frampton. (AbsentHowe)
IQ. Moore. NDaicos
JDaicos. Mitchell. Sidebottom
Hill. Mihocek. Adams
Reef. McStay. Elliott
Cameron. De Goey. Crisp
Pendles. Noble. WHE/McCreery/Cox
Sub: Carmichael

The latter two of WHE/Beau/Cox were in white, so three for one position?

It could look completely different on Wed, but this is just what I gather from this morning.

I think Frampton plays ahead of Murphy and JC will replace Noble

Was always going to happen, they weren’t recruited for the VFL

Yeah it's honestly been super odd to see so many both in the media and even Pies fans on this very board questioning whether all these recruits would play immediately.

Like, 3 of the 4 were specifically targeted to address weaknesses/needs and the 4th (Bobby Hill) has been a target for 2 years for a reason

3 for 2 positions, isn't it? Cox seems likely, which would leave it at WHE or McCreery - I'd bet on McCreery.

Yeah, even though McCreery was in white, WHE in black, so it's interesting. We'll see more on this tomorrow during the main session. Unless WHE was just filling in for Howe being absent.

Magpies’ predicted Round 1 team

B: Isaac Quaynor, Darcy Moore, Brayden Maynard

HB: Nick Daicos, Jeremy Howe, Scott Pendlebury

C: Josh Daicos, Jack Crisp, Steele Sidebottom

HF: Jamie Elliott, Dan McStay, Taylor Adams

F: Bobby Hill, Brody Mihocek, Beau McCreery

FOLL: Darcy Cameron, Jordan De Goey, Tom Mitchell

I/C: Mason Cox, Billy Frampton, John Noble, Reef McInnes, Will Hoskin-Elliott

We say:
Perhaps the biggest call for Craig McRae is whether he opts to remain with Nathan Murphy in defence or the recruit Billy Frampton, with all signs pointing to the latter to play more of a key post role and free up the Pies’ other backs. Along with Tom Mitchell, Dan McStay and Bobby Hill, it’d mean all four of Collingwood’s recruits would line up Round 1. Mason Cox also figures to be there to chop out Darcy Cameron given McRae deployed two rucks for the majority of last season. A shoulder setback to Patrick Lipinski has opened the door for likely either Will Hoskin-Elliott or Reef McInness, and we’re tipping the latter, while Jack Ginnivan remains suspended until at least Round 3.

Agreed, he has. Injury free and fitter (which was always two of his downfalls -- the former especially; last year)
McInnes can play. We never doubted the talent, it was realising it. He had an interrupted year in 2020, 2021 was a hard year for all so 2022 was his first crack, which unfortunately saw him injured. Rising Star smokey.

When he debuted, he didnt look out of place at all. Would have played a lot more if not for injury last year.

He is a great player but Hawkins and Lynch get away with blatant shoves in the back more than any other forwards in the history of our game.
Whilst that may be true, Hawkins is still a player to be feared, even at 34.
