100%

Our running capacity has improved out of sight on last year. There will be plans to taper and increase training loads through the season. So there will be an inevitable flat spot at some point. The reality is if we maintain a relatively healthy list then the best oppositions (Syd, Melb, Bris etc) are going to have to beat the Pies at the G at some point this season.
I would expect tapered training loads will be individual based, to avoid the whole team dropping off.

Would be quite a task getting this right, but hopefully as a team, we stay near our peak.

Actually think that maybe McInnis will take Mihocek's place - they're the same height -- and we might bring someone like Wilson or Macrae in as the sub.

Yeah Reef for Checkers is the only logical change if Checkers doesn't get up to play.

AJ then comes in as sub in the case unless they'd prefer Wilson who can play a variety of roles.

I been thinking the same thing.

Can't see us playing All Season like this

I can. We're fit as f**k

As I had said a while back from the guy at my gym who knows someone in the fitness team at the Pies speaking on De Goey's fitness (which has so far been accurate), he mentioned how the recruits that came from other clubs were absolutely freaking out at the fitness levels of the existing players.

Absolutely off the charts stuff. Which probably explains how we're running out games the way we are.

Again, until proven otherwise, I'm willing to back that the current Football Department knows what they're doing

Without a doubt it will be individualised training loads. Overall though the boys just seems so much stronger and more powerful than last season.

Who knows, maybe we are just scratching the surface of how good we truly can be. So much footy to play out.

Exactly. Richmond won 3 premierships playing frenetic football.
Look at some of the Rugby league teams. They absolutely get hammered in tackles at the same time. Way harder hits than AFL.
Wade has them fitter and stronger than ever before.

Reckon AJ wouldn't be sub because he's too one-dimensional. More likely a flanker or mid I think.

Geelong won 16 games in a row last year

By everyone who subscribes to the "ebbs and flows" theory, that shouldn't have been possible no?

Where was Geelong "pacing themselves" throughout the season?

They did it through managing their list properly during the season on an individual basis. That's what the other clubs should be copying from 2022 Geelong. Player management. Not the game plan.

The game plan is almost impossible to copy. You need to draft the right players in the first instance. Coach needs to be smart enough to implicate it.
This year's Collingwood would have made mince meat of last year's Geelong or Sydney.
It's not just frenetic football as Richmond showed for around 4 years. Our game plan is superior.

Player management also important. Great teams have always done this anyway.

It is not 2011. I have faith in this coaching group to ensure the team is cherry ripe for the finals. Plenty of depth to cover minor injuries. Two wins doesn't mean the foot should come off the gas. What I would like to see is them show a second gear, pinpoint passing to well timed leads. With increased confidence we have yet to see their best footy.

I totally agree with this point. Its inevitable teams will need to get better at this and take a squad approach like soccer squads do (eg EPL)

We actually have the depth this year to be doing this
And with inevitable injury will likely be forced to do it a bit anyway

But I'd like to see McStay and Mihocek get a rest from time to time to let AJ or Kreugs or even Cox fill in
Likewise the inside mid management seems to be already about spreading the load

Yeah, I wouldn't be trying to copy the Pies current plan - Pendles, Daicos, Daicos, Sidey, Crisp, Jordy, - noone else has a group of linking mids who could consistently pull off the chains that we're succeeding with.

Yeah, I don't understand the idea ww might not have the best list.
Best list is dependent on game plan. Tiges used to have the best list for chaos footy because they were so goddamn fast. We've got the best list for the handball waves we're succeeding with. Carlton's would be the best for a grind them plan.

One thing that does concern me is playing this way, it could have the ability to wear you out too soon. I'd rather play our best footy post bye not before it.
Our game plan makes the opposition run more K’s in a game than us.
That should offer some reassurance we’ll wear out the opposition in any game.
Also, Wade has probably lifted our baseline fitness well above where it was 18 months ago, and beyond the rest of the competition.
