Jackson to Freo for their version of the Tim Kelly deal.
Rioli to Port for Amon compo.
Meek forced out by Jackson's arrival, and we pick him up for pick 38.
We don't need Georgiades. Darling + Allen + Waterman is enough, with J Williams coming along in a couple of years.
Williams and Jamieson can play the odd game of AFL but mainly WAFL, which is fine for tall players of their age as they develop.

I'm a Jackson fan, reckon he's a gun, but name me a player whos gone for 2 top 10 picks

2 top 10s is fantasy land and neither WA club will pay that

Was thinking about this earlier and Judd springs to mind - Kennedy and pick 3 & 20. Probably the only player to go onto the trade table worth it as well.

Tom Boyd was probably not too far off two top ten picks, though it was very debatable whether he was actually worth it. Griffen was 28 and only an All Australian and B&F only two years prior. In a solo deal I would imagine the Dogs would easily have gotten a top 15 pick for Griffen and possibly pushed into the top 10*. We paid 17 for Wellingham (which was slight overs) and he's not a prime midfielder nor even been close to an AA jumper.

It's probably more that we don't see this level of players put up for trade too often and when they do want to leave their original club they can usually do it by free agency.

The Shiel deal ended up being 9 + 14 for him + 42. In hindsight, Carlton got lucky that one fell through for them. Maybe he'd have stayed at his GWS level if he went to the Blues.

The Eagles paid overs for Kelly and I doubt that they will go down that path again. They will offer what they consider to be reasonable and if that gets knocked back they will walk away.
It'll be as much to drive the price up for Freo as much as anything. For example, if we can get them to also cough up their 2023 second-rounder to get Jackson over the line that might be the difference in us securing someone next year.

*Caveat: Can't remember if Griffen was battling injuries by this point.

Can't imagine any deal will go through with Tom Lamb as his manager
Well Jackson is looking west so Tom Lamb would be too busy looking the other way

Wouldn't it be to get them to cough up their 1st next year, Melbourne will be going hard for 2 first round picks

If Freo wants Jackson I think their #13 this year and 2023 first-rounder will be out the door straight up, regardless of what we do. Was more thinking a future second-round pick from Freo might be the sweetener, given I can't see a path to Freo getting the top-five pick that Melbourne would be pushing hard for.

Did just realise one path to a top-five pick for Freo is collapsing next year after giving up their 2023 first-round pick... Ooo boy that would be hilarious.

Had a very nice highlights package, as I recall. Lots of courageous marks going back with the flight. Rated him in his draft year. Shows what I know.
Am I right in remembering that GC traded up with us to get him? (We ended up shifting back a couple of times and grabbing Xon?).

Watts - pick 1 (174 games) Tall flanker never had the strength to hold down a key post
Naitanui - pick 2 (213 games) Athlete > Footballer. We got lucky he has maximised every opportunity
Vickery - pick 8 (125 games) s**t bloke s**t player s**t club
Davis - pick 10 (267 games) Done well!
Day - pick 3 (147 games) Athlete > Footballer. Unluckily never got the development he required as he could have become an absolute weapon
Longer - pick 8 (66 games) Plodder ruck. Enough said
Plowman - pick 3 (144 games) Reached for effectively a stopper full back
Stringer - pick 5 (172 games) Isn't a tall, more a good matchup on different types of defenders
Daniher - pick 10 (150 games) Probably goes top 3 without FS, was tracking to be a star until Essendon ruined him
P McCartin - pick 1 (57 games) Reached for a KPP, (over Petracca) was on track to be solid/reliable rather than an out and out star
Wright - pick 8 (109 games) Tweener doesnt dominate as either fwd/ruck but has been solid so far in that role
D Moore - pick 9 (125 games) Done well!
Weitering - pick 1 (133 games) Done well!
Schache - pick 2 (72 games) Reached for a KPP for go home reasons lol,
Weideman - pick 9 (59 games) Bemusing pick, has never looked up to AFL at any stage
McKay - pick 10 (86 games) Done well! One of the few who have actually outperformed projections

What it shows is that a lot of clubs reach for talls. Necessarily if you need to fit that spot yet most times you are getting a worse player🤷‍♂️
The sheer amount of busts of super high picks is actually astounding.
100% would have taken Boyd @ #1 and given him a $1 mill deal too

And clubs dont reach for mids? Flashy mediums / smalls?

Tambling taken before Roughead and Franklin?

Where do we start?

A couple of questions for you all.

How many of your players does Colin Young manage? Also, does your club ever have any issues dealing with him?

I'm genuinely interested to hear your thoughts.

Tbf if he was our player, we’d all be saying 2 top 10’s. I’m not even as high on Jackson as most but his resume is pretty impressive, most rucks are no where near as good as he is at this age.

He was a pick 3, rising star winner, premiership player, helped turn a Grand Final on its head… there’s no way you can sit here and saying he’s only worth one top 10 and a 2nd. Cerra literally went for 6 and a future 3rd and he’s a dime a dozen outside midfielder

Just a sec, pulling up my chair. Yep, all good.

Pick 5/7 and 20 is about right. Spot on. Especially after this seasons form.

He isnt a Chris Judd. Nor a Dangerfield.

Is he a proven goal kicker like Cameron? Nope.

What do Melbourne need to plug and play round 1 nex year to win a flag?

And with this years form what is Jackson actually worth?
A key forward, but can't see us giving up Darling or Allen.

I'm not sure to be honest, ppls views vary on his value. Mine I think pick 2 and 26.

Judd a brownlow medalist and Jackson a player with potential and not a A grader.Maybe those who try to spruik up Jackson's value need to take a bex and have a good lie down.

If he agreed I would most definately include Darling in a deal and not as the steak knives either.

Then I'd be looking at Georgiades for Jrn and 38.

Darling 30yrs out for Georgiades 23yrs is a like for like 3rd tall forward. Darling will not be here when we contend again.

2 plus 26 is crazy.

Tambling could have been anything, just landed at a poor club. Like a more midfield leaning Rankine.
Also the gap between Div 1 & 2 champs really muddied the comparisons when stepping up a level but Richmond really stuffed up.
Franklin interviewed poorly and as we now know Roughead was the better KPP and had multiple suitors which was why it worked out in that order.

Obviously Franklin came good but you cant compare notes after the fact. The real question is would Franklin & Roughead been as good if recruited to another system?

A lot of decisions are within the realms of good tactics
-Taking Jackson at 3 was a reach at the time
-Port trading a 2nd rounder for Sinn
-Phillips > McDonald
-Dom Tyson for Josh Kelly

but some decisions are absolutely baffling:
-the Stocker trade
-GWS drafting only midfielders
-father son bids not happening
-most things GC do
