Naitanui started second fiddle averaging similar numbers supporting the best ruckman of his generation too.

If he said he wanted out in his third year you'd bet many clubs would be happy to part with a low first round pick for him.

I did a quick look so my maths might be off, but I think Nic Nat was averaging almost twice as many hit outs at the same point in his career (18 vs 10)

Said this before but for those thinking we just split picks.
Word is crows will look to keep pick 5. So suns might have to take future picks from the crows. Suns with pick 5 and 7 is no certainty.

North have said they are interested in splitting picks and they have pick one plus benefit of possibly trading with lions over Ashcroft Father-Son. So it’s more attractive offer than our pick 2.
Of course Adelaide will want their cake and eat it too but doubt they get that.

I'm wary of spending up big on a second fiddle hoping he can be the number one man.

I know he's young but he averages 10 hitouts a game supporting the best ruckman of his generation.
Incorrect, he would be coming to support the best ruckman of his generation.

Sure, but the flip side of that is that he's been a lock selection in the best team of the past two years who have arguably the best ruck of the modern era* who could've rucked all day easily instead of playing 2 rucks, and despite Jackson being about 5-6 years off when most rucks come good. And he was the first ruck to win the rising star in 22 years while doing so too. And was one of the best players in a GF win too

*I said arguably, don't ****ing @ me

Fair point, thought it was a lot closer - which it was during their second seasons, but not during their third. Jackson has seen more of the ball though in terms of possessions and marks, from less TOG.

I'm certainly no expert, but my thoughts would be splitting pick 2 this year wouldn't have a much value as it did say last year.

Last year, removing father sons Diacos and Darcy, JHF was the clear first eligible pick and Callaghan was the clear second. Callaghan was highly rated and highly sought after. So I would expect pick 2 would've commanded two first round picks; say Pick 8 and 15.

This year, another father son that is clear number 1. After that Wardlaw is highly rated but injuries have lessened the desire to trade up for him IMO, same for Busslinger. Leaves Sheezel, who definitely will have some clubs wanting him but not like Callaghan. So I'd say Pick 6 and 25, would be good value this year!
6, 24 and Tyler Brockman works perfectly. We need to bring in a small forward now that Rioli is off to save Hinkleys job.

Melbourne and GWS chasing a key Forward
trade Mr Jack Darling straight up for Luke Jackson or...
trade Mr Jack Darling for one of GWS's first rounders and on flip to Demons for Luke Jackson

don't necessarily want to rid us of Jack, but would like to keep our first rounder and have a crack at Luke Jackson's perfect timeline for our rebuild

JD won't be around when we are competing next

Then Oscar Allen never recovers fully from his injury and we are royally f***ed up front.

Jack Darling only goes for a godfather offer.

For those worried we about Jackson, the club has not spoken to him yet.

From the Herald Sun:

“We think we are well placed with a range of possibilities if we get the opportunity to trade for Luke,” O’Brien said.

“We can split selections to generate more. We have future selections. There’s player trades.

“We haven’t spoken to Melbourne yet at all. I’ll contact Tim Lamb (Melbourne list boss) in coming days and start working on that, but we also need to get in front of Luke and his management (TLA) to find out their position as well and put our case forward.

“Hopefully we can convince him we are the right club to come to.

“There is an air of confidence we can convince him and we can hopefully get a deal done.

“Opportunities like Luke don’t come along very often. So when they come along it would be remiss not to explore them and put our best foot forward.”

O’Brien said the Eagles have been talking to Jackson’s management all year about his future, and would look to arrange a meeting with him shortly.

West Coast would be unlikely to get involved in serious trade talks with Melbourne if it cannot speak with Jackson first about playing for the Eagles.

true but we are f***ed up front if Oscar never recovers anyway -- I do like Georgiades and rate him far more highly than Waterman
he is very JD like in all of his work and MUCH younger -- timeline baby

Georgiades has been ruled out already hasn't he? Of course he is rated more highly than Waterman but realistically we don't have the capital to make a move for him - Port understandably are keen to retain and develop him and may ask for pick 2, Rioli and Gaff (not joking).

Ok we send pick 2 to the Gold Coast for 5 & 7.

Why on Earth do we hand over pick 5 in the trade and not 7? I'm lost here. 7 & 20 & a Spud like Willlams/Nelson/Rotham is ample. Give 7 and then someone takes our guy at 5 or 6 doesn't sit well with me. Keep 5 then i know we get the guy we want.

And Freo easily can get the extra 1st round once they got a hand of 2nds they can package together.

there's seems to be an awful lot of smoke about MG wafting about
this is how these things get started and gain momentum

Think it's solely because he's one of few players on the Port list from WA and SPP seems settled now, and something has to be given for Rioli but we have their second rounder.

Doubt Port would even want to negotiate (short of some spectacular deal like a pick 2 straight out) and I don't blame them, he could be carrying their forward line in a couple of years.

Pick 2 (Wardlaw or Tsatis)
or split pick 2 for 2 first rounders and give one of them to Melbourne along with pick 20 for Jackson
Pick 20 ( Hewett if he is still around)
Rioli and Pick 26 to Port for Georgiades
Pick 38 for Lloyd Meek

He’s 192cm and doesn’t have a build like Darling where he can put muscle key defenders. He ain’t carrying any forward line in a few years. He’s a complimentary third tall. As Melbourne showed (with Fritsch), if that’s your best forward you’re in trouble no matter how good the midfield and backline is.

same height as JD and 9 years younger
why couldn't he put on the same size as Darling?

I see him as 2nd tall - as Darling has been his whole career with JK
switch in Oscar and MG - for the long run

Not just anyone of those.
The 2nd one.
Keep 5 give 7
Not give 5 keep 7.
People need to stop this. It hurt's my brain.
The Eagles need to be ruthless now after the TK trade and predicament we are in.
