Hunt is an unrestricted free agent and played 20 games for the Demons this season, including their two finals. He also played 20 games in 2021 and was unlucky to miss out on the club's premiership win last year after injuring his ankle late in Melbourne's campaign.

He is without a contract for 2023. West Coast has a level of interest in Hunt and given his free agency status he could leave and join any club without a trade being enacted.

The 27-year-old's speed, run and carry is his weapon and he was instrumental in the Demons' round 22 win over Carlton with a season-high 19 disposals and several key moments late in the game.

SUNS' EARLY PICK UP FOR GRABS

GOLD Coast is set to dangle pick No.7 as the draft sweetener for clubs vying to take on Jack Bowes and the two remaining years on his contract.

Bowes is signed through to the end of 2024 on a heavily back-ended deal, with the former top-10 pick and Suns Academy product open to a move to a new club.

The Suns are also embarking on a proactive reset of their salary cap position and will use their strong draft hand to entice rivals to take on players.

It means clubs such as Hawthorn, St Kilda, Geelong and Essendon, who have all shown interest in Bowes, would also be in line to land the extra draft capital as part of the deal to take the versatile Sun's contract off their books.

Piss Gaff off, free up cap space, get Bowes + a free pick = Suns Fold.

Our hat should be in the ring. If we want to hit this rebuild hard we should be chasing picks. Especially when it's at the expense of only cap space. Even if we have to ditch Witherden and promote a rookie on a lower wage.

I just hope Trev doesn't think Bowes is a B grader.

Bowes is instantly best 22 in the midfield or half back and would be an improvement of what we have… to get a bonus pick 7 it’s what we should be into.. fits the age demographic as well.

In what world would the Cats have cap space to buy pick 7?
If Geelong win the premiership it's quite possible they have a lot retire

Higgins just announced retirement
Hawkins 33
Isaac Smith 33
Ryan Stanley 32
Joel Selwood 33
Dangerfield 32
Zac Touey 32
Mark Blicavs 32

Are all 32 and over.

And Gary Rohan I think is unsigned for 2023 so add him aswell. This is Geelongs last hoorah before the wheels fall off.

Expect a few to retire or play on one year or low paying contracts if they win the premiership.

Jayden Hunt. Yuck

If we can fit in that contract that would be a huge win.

Get a best 22 player and also taking two top-10 picks to the draft period. That would really set up our rebuild.

We could draft a couple of midfield guns or even tempt Melbourne with a top-10 pick (and maybe future second) to bring in Jackson and still take a early first round pick.

Would be massive. Get it done!

I'm not sure what our cap space is like these days, but you'd think if we can do it, the idea is a bit of a no brainer for a rebuilding club.

It's only for 2 years after all. 2 years of Bowes contract + a free pick (i'd even do it for an early 20 pick). Bowes is no slouch, but there's also a pick. Sheesh.

Surely other clubs are already onto it though. Bowes being Victorian suggests he'd lean in that direction too.

Dev staying at the Lions would be shades of the stupidity shown by that moron Preuss. He wanted to be first ruck somewhere and nominated Melbourne as his new destination. Despite the fact AA Gawn was there and they'd just drafted Jackson.

Seriously Dev. You're barely getting a game as it is. There's going to be chip scab Ashcroft running around pushing you even further back, then high end talent Jasper Fletcher also F/S in the midfield, AND Josh Dunkley is about to join..

Do the math m8. Nominate West Coast already and you'll play each and every week in your home state. Yes, we are toilet at the moment, but we've got credits.

I'm on edge. If we don't get him now this trade period we don't get him AT ALL.

Best get in his ear now his coach is in a pickle.

Fellas to loyal for his own ****ing good.

Yeah big old no to Hunt

The Bowes thing is interesting - with pick 2 we're actually in a pretty good position to offer value to GC. Salary wise they don't really need to be adding that many multiple picks, feel like the chance to instead take one very very high pick would be enticing. Other clubs would only really want to be giving/taking second rounders as part of the deal and aren't in our position - I can't see that as being as valuable to GC

For us since there's not a JHF type no brainer sitting there for us pick 5 is almost as good as pick 2 anyway, plus pick 7 ideally! Gets us say Phillipou/Hewitt or (whoever slides out of Wardlaw, Tstas, Sheezel)/Phillipou

And we add Bowes

Gives us a decent advantage points wise but obviously that's the price of taking the contract. Those 2 contract years are rebuild time anyway and hopefully taking up a bit of contract space will stop our list managers getting toey for big imports too early.

Then by the end of the 2 years Bowes is either good and worth resigning or we have space we've held onto to get a free agent/entice a trade for a position we deem vital after the past few years of development.

I actually reckon GC would be keen on this, just depends if they're more after future picks/do end up getting 5 as part of the Rankine deal. Also lets them pretend to save face for losing draft capital for bad salary management - kind of a reverse Weller situation as in "hey we traded out Bowes for pick 2, gold star for us ey!"

I like Hunt as a player and has alot of what we need (line breaking pace) BUT would be a very strange call to be recruiting 27 years olds

If we can pick him up for a cheap two year contract or similar, I'm not against it - there is no need to trade for him. We are crying out for pace and here we have a West Aussie that is quick and agile, on a golden platter served up to us that has proven he can perform at the top level (albeit inconsistently and with foot skills that aren't exactly elite).

We also need a new whipping boy now that Jackson Nelson has been delisted.

I don't think he's a West Aussie is he?

Correction, he isn't.

But still, don't understand the opposition. Addresses an area of need and will come cheap with no draft picks required.
