Loving all this talk of Jack Bowes coming here, but has he actually said he's open to a trade here? If he's only wanting to go to Victoria then it's all a bit pointless.

He hasn't said that either.

Most would presume Victoria, but nothing has been made public about his preferred destination yet. If we got in early and made the pitch to his manager...

Have said this about Fold Coasts last 5 deals hoss, and yet here we are again.

I'd take the 1.6M salary hit for a first round pick + Bowes.

Essentially a free swing at the top end of a draft to kick-start our rebuild, and all it's costing is cap space for the next couple years. Perhaps a future pick as well.

Worth the risk. Bowes isn't a crab, he'd be best 22 for us and STILL falls into the ideal age bracket. Slice his salary after back after 2 years and there's more to like than dislike.

Pick 7 could send us home with both Cadman AND Philipou. Wouldn't mind that coming in for Parto.
Everybody would that. It’s a no brainer

Isn’t going to happen though

Imagine the reaction on here if we put Gaff on the market offering pick 20 for someone to take him off our hands

We need to get up with salary cap space being an asset

Pies doing the salary dump cap a couple of years ago came across as insane but look how they have rebounded

Cats have been able to work it brilliantly with their lifestyle and lower cost of living

Both Adelaide clubs should be able to do so with house prices being so much lower

Once the Suns get into a winning mode, the Gold Coast has a lot of attractions that should mean a lower go home

What Freo and West Coast need to do is work out how to manage it to advantage.

Our keep at all costs approach with Gaff and Guv looks flawed

Best people stop looking at Sheezal as a small forward.

He's a 185cm creative flanker, with Midfield Potentialtm

Think Robbie Gray, or Toby Greene. The guy you want delivering inside 50 or getting around the ball as much as possible.
Well said sir...

I only question it because it’s such a ludicrously one sided deal. Even by Gold Coast standards it’s bad

In order to take on Bowes contract they’ll not only give you a half decent player but ALSO pick 7 whilst asking for nothing in return. Nothing?

At the same time they’re likely asking Adelaide for pick 5 for Rankine. Why wouldn’t Adelaide be chasing Bowes and then tell the Suns we’ll take Rankine and Bowes and call it even.

Imagine the reaction on here if we put Gaff on the market offering pick 20 for someone to take him off our hands. By comparison the Suns are offering pick 7 plus a more marketable player at this stage of their respective careers

If that’s the deal Gold Coast should just be folded and their license given to Tasmania
it's not really that bad as GC have too much of some things and not enough of others!!

They have far more picks than list spots.

They have a small amount of wiggle room in cap space but need space next year.

They have lots of picks this year and top end talent they want next year.

In reality I think GC will only use 1, maybe 2, picks and this years draft.

Also, with the changes to how injured players can or can't be paid, salary cap pressure will only get worse.

We should offer our 2023 2nd and 3rd for Bowes, Sharp, 7 and 25, then offer 25 + 38 for Dev + Brisbane 2023 2nd rounder

Imagine an off season where we bring in Bowes, Sharp, Dev, 2 top 10 picks and pick 20!! (if we have list and salary spots!!!)

If we can get pick 7 out of GC, we should be all in on Jackson. Getting Jackson, a first round midfielder plus our suite of second round picks is exactly the way to turbocharge a rebuild. If we could also get a solid project player like Dev Robertson, reckon we would shave a year or two off our rebuild.

Do you have inside info or are you just being negative?

No-one is saying it will happen but did anyone see Redden moving from Brisbane to us and ending up a premiership player and highly rated? A South Australian!

What about Witherden?

The Suns are paying big time to move his salary on and want something in return so they have some say.

This is not a player driven trade it is club driven. So not a normal trade scenario.

If the Eagles offer more to the Suns then they will listen and ask Bowes to consider our offer.

If he goes to either the Hawks or Essendon that wouldnt be bad either as one of them may make a play for pick 2.

If we get pick 7 out of GC, then we would have picked up Bowes 800K contract, I find it hard to then think we would have enough cap space to additionally afford Jackson who, reportedly is to be seeking a similar sized contract himself.

It's one or the other IMO.

No world, in which, we get both.

They’ll be asking for stuff. They’ll aim for the best offer. Imagine ideally a low future second rounder next year at a minimum. North should be offering their priority pick they got
This ^

Seems almost like the afl has conjured this scenario to kill 2 birds with 1 stone .

GC get their salary cap relief + future picks for their academy players next year which hopefully because they are Queensland locals they won't need to be paid overs to keep them .

Norf get pick 7 which they can spilt with bulldogs or Sydney who will be trying to push up into the top 10 and both will have 2 × first rounders

And it would fit the AFL requirement to use the future PP to land players. Kind of. ;)

Jackson chews up so much salary cap though and melb will be after 2 1st rnd picks

It would be very difficult and additional players would need to be cut.

The hardest part is getting both players to commit.

Bowes you offer 4 x $600k. And we don't retain Witherden nor Redden. Senior players x 2 moved to the rookie list frees up $200k as well. That sorts out the Bowes $$$.

Jackson it seems we have the cash for already.

Interesting point I picked up on trade radio. They mentioned a loop hole that the AFL has now closed for next year. They said the salary cap is not as fixed as many think. There are injury allowances and those $$$ are excluded from the cap. So which club just had the biggest injury list of all clubs this year? If injured players salaries are excluded even partially then we may just have had an opportunity to bank some unexpected cap space. A silver lining to a very dark, cloudy season.

Personally I'm happy to avoid Jackson. Use our good picks, trade in Robertson and also pick up a fringe player cheap or for free like Brockman. Brockman I could see walk to the PSD to us given the bad press around the Hawks.

Wow and you consider me negative.

Just being realistic 😎

I’m also cognisant of the likely reaction here when Bowes goes somewhere else. It’ll be the clubs fault because we didn’t try hard enough, or our management is shit, or it’s Trevor’s and/or Toddy’s fault, or the pieman or any one of the other criticisms thrown around.

That’ll be despite that we may not have ever been in the running

No inside info, just being negative

Two things :

1) We have to convince Bowes to come here. Have a read of this board and the prevailing view is we are heading into a significant period of time at the foot of the ladder. It’s a justified view. Like it or not, other clubs hold more appeal.
2) The deal as it’s being reported seems too good to be true. It’s hard to imagine the Suns want nothing in return but even if that is the case, clubs will offer something as it’ll turn into a bidding war. If we offered our future 2nd for Bowes and 7, that’s still an extraordinarily good deal. Not hard to envisage a club like Geelong or Melbourne or Sydney offering a future 1st

I’ll concede there’s a possibility we convince Bowes as the WA lifestyle is closer to what he’s used to in Queensland than what Victoria would be. If that happens, great, but my positivity doesn’t extend to believing the deal gets done without something going back

The season we’ve had, I just can’t see how a deal this good falls in our lap. That’d be too much like good luck when we’ve had none all year
