If Logan Mcdonald has any pride idk how he stays at Sydney. I would be so annoyed getting dropped
Ironically his own character an intact following the Swans smacking. An abject performance he can be attributed 0 blame for

Bowes appears to be between North and Geelong, with the Cats better placed due to what happened with Greenwood and the Kangaroos refusing to part with their future second rounder. Geelong ready to give up their future first if 7 and 25 are in the deal.

As for us, could we even afford Bowes? We had so little cap in 2022 that Vardy was forced into early retirement. Delisting Nelson and retiring Kennedy would not have shifted that much to allow 800k additions.

He hasn't said that either.

Most would presume Victoria, but nothing has been made public about his preferred destination yet. If we got in early and made the pitch to his manager...
Did you learn nothing from the Darling pre-season saga?
All Trev has to do is go knock on his door and have a chat, he'll be an Eagle in no time

If we get pick 7 and Bowes, then I think most players understand that we purchased a draft pick. Apart from Will, most are smart enough to comprehend the new landscape.

I do feel for the player that is picked at 7 as they will have more than usual expectations.

To that extent, MJ at the Dockers has a bit of added pressure. I sense some relief from Eagles fans given how he developed but remember that he was injured at the important stage early in the season and I will hold judgement until next season and he has a full pre-season.

We'd be able to do Bowes or Jackson, not both, right? I don't mind Bowes if it isn't going to cost us much in return. Take 2, 7 and two first-half second rounders to the draft, suck again (but hopefully less) in 2023, grab another high first rounder in 2023 and hopefully set ourselves up for a run in 2025-2028. I wouldn't mind another decent first rounder in the 2022-2024 window but even without it, that would be our best draft hand in quite some time.

So we're bottom of the ladder with no room in our Salary Cap either ?
But Geelong are fine ....

That is just great !!
Pretty much this.
We can’t be wooden spoon fodder AND have a full salary cap.
That’s just unholy.

I guess the only saving grace is that we load up on draftees on the standard two year contract, as they come out of contract the existing overpaid past - use by date stuff in the cupboard is thrown out (harsh, but play on) and the wallet fills back up a bit in time

Other players in the team would be pissed if Bowes is getting paid $800k per year but maybe he just has to pay for all the meals, coffees, subway etc whenever he is out with the boys?

Need a pair of new sneakers?
Call Bowes and he’ll sort you out

If Bowes and pick seven & 25 land at Geelong ........... &&*^^^%^^^&& that would really piss me off.

I'm trying to understand how we can afford Jackson but not afford Bowes.

We either just don't rate Bowes and will waste his time by trying to come here. Or any Jackson contract will be more backhanded when Gaff, Darling, Gov are either off our books or on much less coin.

Really makes a mockery of the AFL's decision to allow 'salary cap dumping'.

"Hey Geelong, don't worry about having a bad year or losing a quality player in-order to get a Top 10 pick, just feast off over clubs weaknesses instead"

I would call it incompetence on our behalf , while simultaneously being shown up by the best drafting and trading Club in the AFL, they do seem to manage their TPP very well.

Really sucks to be us at the minute.

"Bowes appears to be between North and Geelong"

Where's that mail coming from?

Where does the coin come from in regards to our TPP.

Jackson around 850
Bowes around 450 .... should he decide to take a massive hair cut

So where does the 1.3 million come from ??????, that to me is the major problem.

The Jackson money is there, that has been confirmed.

And you believe we can't find or have an additional $500k to spend? It isn't hard to imagine.

It could be simply Witherden is also let go and Redden moves to the Rookie list.

Next year we have big contracts ending as well as a number of players retiring. The following year even more so.

Seems that injured players salary in some amount falls outside the cap. With all our injuries this year maybe we banked some of that by moving 2023 salaries into 2022.

Fact is we don't know how we have managed our cap and if we banked a heap this year due to long term injuries.

If Geelong can afford to keep signing FA's and trade in guns I'm confident the Eagles can find an additional $500k on top of the Jackson money. Personally I don't see Jackson coming to us anyway.

The discussion has been we can’t afford Jackson and Bowes so it’s not a matter of not being able to afford Bowes necessarily as the club has stated they have the cap space for Jackson. I’m not certain how but Nisbett has said it’s the case

If, we were able to do this deal it means that we would be effectively paying $1.6m split over 2023/24 for a pick 7 and Bowes

Is that salary cap space best spent on a strong, yet still speculative, draft pick and a fringe half back or bankrolled into future years for a FA raid

Don’t reckon the players would discuss contracts.
The players are smart enough to know that if he was to be on a reported 800k that it’s simply a back loaded contract and the Eagles are paying it to get pick 7. Players will just move on

Fair call on saving for a FA raid,
plenty on here talking of going for English, McDonald etc...

I’m 100% with you in the cynic front here - this screams pie in the sky/someone got their wires crossed type stuff.

They’re giving up pick 7 and a gun (admittedly a pricey one) for some future mid weight picks? I know, I know - the academy.
It still doesn’t add up to me, man

Bowes atleast comes with pick 7 so that would make it worth taking on the higher salary. I would only be prepared to offer back a 2nd rounder in return here though.

Jackson however will come with an even higher salary and likely we will be expected to pay overs in draft capital to Melbourne to beat Freo to him. Whilst i dont mind Jackson I don't see us getting him for a fair price so for mine Jackson is an avoid, I hope Freo get him and good luck to them.
