Love the thinking but GWS losing big time there

We would need to include the our future 2nd for that

However, we dont need that many picks

I would do 2 & 26 for 12, 15 & 19

Leaving us with 12, 15, 19, 20 & 21

First 3 picks on night 2 is a great carrot to gain a 2023 1st

Going from 2 to 12 is not something I’d want to do personally.

Future 1st (Brisbane) and future 2nd (Giants)

Keeps their picks this year for Ashcroft and they’re pretty close now to having enough points
Am I crazy or is that a seriously good deal for Brisbane? Bloke just won a B&F in a team with Macrae and Bontempelli only one year older than Taranto and going for what should be pick in the 15-18 range and a second?

Some good news at last.

Any rumours of West Coast defender Josh Rotham being shopped around by the Eagles this off-season have been shot down.

Rotham’s manager Jason Dover told The West Australian he was happy at the club and the Eagles were happy to keep him.

Rotham has two years left to run on a three-year contract extension, signed at the end of 2021.
.. those rumours basically being us in this very thread, right?

Bloody hate this futures trading stuff. It should be thrown out and all clubs should have to deal with what they have in the year the draft is on. Makes the whole trade and draft a bit of a joke.

Wouldn’t that just make it harder to get deals done?

Yeah getting Dunkley for a future 1st and GWS future 2nd is pretty favourable towards Brisbane, they’d be stoked if that’s the outcome for sure

Over half of the trades being discussed wouldn’t get done.

Trading future picks has significantly opened up the ability for players to move clubs.

Some interesting comments on draftees contracts from the GWS list manager in light of Bruhn seeking a trade to Geelong. Talking about an initial 2 year contract not being long enough

It’s particularly relevant to the Giants and Suns who as he says often have to pay overs for players after their initial 2 year contract is up just to retain them. Which then puts pressure on their salary cap.

4 year contracts with a set pay scale for NFL draft. IMHO would be a great equaliser for non-vic teams.

It's not supposed to be barter town on the streets in Bali. You have your draft hand and thats what you can trade. This is about making it easy for players to leave. I don't like it. Just my opinion.

So you’d rather it be harder for employees to get to their preferred employer?

6 and 7 for us sounds properly good. 2 + 26? Seems bit crap for Hawthorn though.

That depends on what (or who) Hawthorn want.

If they want Sheezel, or Tsatsas, or Wardlaw or Cadman - only 1 of those will be gone at our pick - but all 4 likely gone by 6 (7 on draft night).

Maybe a bit of argy bargy about 26 (wanting a future 2nd, or some other pick upgrades etc) - but it is about right to jump a bracket.

They don't do the deal if they don't really want one of those players - but if they do then I think they would happily pull the trigger.

We'd do it also - I can see us taking one of Clark/Phillipou/Humprey/McKenzie and pairing them with Busslinger (I know we don't need another KPD, but I think we would be comfortable taking him and knowing we have flexibility to move someone forward).

People just want instant gratification.

One of the best moves for WCE this trade period is to do nothing at all.

Hardly.

People want 2 things this trade period.

1. Get adequate compensation for Rioli

&2. Improve our draft hand by bundling the extra picks we've got, given they're worth a fair bit in points value and we'll only make 4 selections in the ND.

That's it. Nobody is asking for miracles from ROB tbh. Unfortunately the Rioli compensation has taken a hit, whilst one option of a pick upgrade is likely gone.

Still plenty of time left for him to do something. Sitting and doing nothing though, just leaves us with a semi lame draft hand we aren't maximising. I don't want that, why would anyone?

Well that is just a stupid comment when the system does not allow it's employees to play for their preferred employer to start with.

No it doesn’t to start with, as a restraint of trade that’s considered (by the league and the AFLPA) to be reasonable for the purpose of ensuring equality.

But making it harder and harder for them to move during their careers is getting less and less reasonable.

Our 1st Pick has value, just think it'll have more value on Draft night.
