That floated trade is insulting to us. No chance in hell that it going to happen. Why even make that a headline.
Let's not deal with a threeway JHF trade at all. Pick 2 isn't up for discussion.

This is going to be one of those trade periods that make or break our recruiting. We can't afford to screw it up before the draft. No splitting picks because its getting ridiculous and Jackson doesn't want to even come to us.

How dare any club open with a low offer for a pick swap. Lol.

Pick 2 can go...............for a premium, a high one.

The pr campaign for JHF and Port has been astonishing. West Coast is just collateral damage because how dare they not get involved in a lopsided trade deal that goes against them.

The media just want the scalp of bullying JHF out of town. Makes them feel good about themselves

I’m just fuming at how soft we have been this trade period. Go hard at a Port player. Give Duursma or a Georgiades a 5 year deal and force Ports hand. If Rioli is worth 4 years 2.4, Georgiades is a no brainer at 5 and 3 mill

The reason we get bs articles like the pick 2 one is because publicly we are viewed as soft turnovers. The reason we are viewed that way is because we are
We haven't even made a trade yet.

Knocked back at least 2 .

Fume on. Perhaps, just perhaps a Duursma or a Georgiades 5 year deal is not in our best interests. WC need to look at what is best for WC not how they can 'force the hand ' of another club.

Oh I’m talking years of failure. Many years.
Well hold off reminiscing about how weak we were and enjoy this trade period, we it seems that we have grown a pair

So in summary.

Norf and Port want to work out a deal where JHF gets to Port and Port pay a shit-tin to get it done.
To satisfy each others peccadilloes they attempt to bring in a 3rd party, where said 3rd party gets done over.
3rd party says 'you want to get a deal done between you and you want us to drop our pants, bend over the table and spread our cheeks. No thanks'.
And 3rd party becomes the bad guy/the blocker of this deal.

Sometimes you just have to walk away. As a matter of principle it's sometimes better to burn the house down, making everyone unhappy, than doing a deal you end up regretting forever.

Port are without doubt the one's leaking the proposed trade - as they want to heap media pressure on WC and North (and it is fantastic that there are very, very good relationships between the 2 clubs - as it will only put the squeeze on Port more).

What Port need to understand (maybe they do, maybe they don't - but it is yet to be verified in reports I've seen) is what Nth will accept for JHF. Some suggestions that #2 plus a player gets it done.

Ignoring Ashcroft - That #2 is worth a very small amount more to Nth, as you have the #1 pick obviously - so you get absolute choice of player at #2 (and other clubs would potentially be getting their 2nd choice). Not saying it is worth pick 1, just that it has a very small value bump to Nth compared to other teams.

So if Port can satisfy Nth with #2 and a player (don't really care who that player is) they then need to work with us. 8 + 8 (nominal F1st) isn't getting it done - and then Rioli thrown in...

So it seems that Port, assuming they want pick 2 involved, will have to shed 2 decent players to bring in 1 decent player plus a potential future star.

Look at the currency we were required too offload for Tim Kelly, there's your starting point for pick 2 Port.

No need for us to be involved at all, we'll just go to the draft and do the Keys double trade back to get more currency than you're offering.

Id be very very hesitant to assume they'll finish in a similar spot next year. They had the 7th best % of all teams this year.

Either way why would we even be interested in helping JHF get to Port.

We shouldn't be uninterested - as long as there is value for us.

But Port are asking us to send 2 very good assets their way (pick #2, plus Junior) - what they do with the pick who cares, but pay up for those assets (not huge overs, but high picks carry a premium).

Our club has basically said we value Rioli around late 1st early 2nd. I'm going to call that pick 20 (+/- a few spots). Pick 2 on points might be fair for 8+8 (on points we can't 'lose' even if port are premiers - as 8 + 18 is about square) - but points are absolutely useless to us. Talent is useful, and that drops off in this draft at around 6. Probably around 10-12 next draft (top end - I hear it is a deeper draft). So we could get 2nd tier talent 2 years running - for no significant upgrade anywhere.

Can Port move their pick 8 to a higher pick? (GC, GWS, Geelong will probably all move picks out... just whether they are willing to move the higher ones). Even if they moved it up to 5, and their future 1st is nominally 8 (I think they will move up the ladder not down) - that is only a premium worth pick 20 (value for Rioli - but no overs for pick 2).

Brisbane have stated that contracted midfielder Deve Robertson is a "required player" at the Lions amid interest from West Coast.”

Hope we can snag Deve for a pick 26 or 38. Would be great value, but doubt Brisbane caves unless they need the currency for Ashcroft/Fletcher/Dunkley.

Well, the noises coming out of the club is that there answer was a hard No on the 3 way deal. So at least we are not even thinking about doing it.

It also feels like the club understandably has a bee in it's bonnet about Rioli. So maybe we will play real hardball on it. If i was Rioli i would be pretty pissed at Port right now. I would be wondering what their level of commitment really is to getting the deal done and whether they might just let it wither and die on the vine so they can commit everything to chasing JHF. Rioli and his manager should be thinking about what their options are.

Eagles receive: 8, 2023 1st (Port)
Port receive: JHF, Junior
North receive: 2, 27, 2023 2nd (Port)

Final draft hands if the above happens.

Eagles: 8, 20, 26, Port’s future first
Port: JHF, Junior
North: 1, 2, 27, Port’s future second

Is any of this egregious? Is the Eagles end of things up there better than just keeping 2 and getting 27 for Junior?
Er yeah, great deal.

Hell yeah and after why dont we invite port home afterwards to f%#} our sisters too?

Port have quite literally stopped caring about rioli.

Id be carefully pointing this out and comparing it to how our club has looked after him….

Because we have a player that wants to head to Port as well. It makes sense to get involved provided the deal works for us as well.

Why are we interested in Devon Robertson?

If he had any common sense, he would be pushing to come here already. Now

Instead what will happen is that with Dunkley and Ashcroft coming on board he will be pushed further down the pecking order and be starved of opportunities, and then at the end of next year he will come cap in hand to the eagles to belatedly facilitate a trade that will save/extend his career

I get that he is a "loyal" person, but from a managerial and game time perspective remaining at Brisbane is just foolish. Yes Brisbane could win a flag in 2023, but would you expect him to play in it? Unlikely IMO

The kid can play, but at the same time we shouldn't be expected to be his safety net either
