Highly unlikely we can get a bloke who is had it on a big salary and a guy who hasn’t shown he has it to someone else for anything worthwhile
Completely agree. We can't use our dregs to conjure a first rounder, never ceases to amaze me how delusional and unrealistic posters are with potential trade scenarios. Completely out of touch suggesting lopsided eagle bias trades that will never ever happen.

Can we trade Gaff & XON to a Melb club?
Get another 1st round pick to get Ginbey.
Those two together might get us (stress the word might) something like pick 45-50... And we'd probably still have to pay a good third or so of Gaff's enormous salary.

(A few more minutes thinking about it and I think we'd probably struggle to even get that for Gaff and XON.)

Scary. The Age reckons we will bend over in the Rioli-JHF deal.
The Age is now saying that Ratugolea has told Geelong he wants out and wants to go to ...... Port.

How many players are Port chasing? The AFL needs to get involved and tell Port to pull their head in and not chase players at other clubs they have no intention of making reasonable offers for.

They are also saying that the 3 way deal with us and North is still alive and kicking.

Cats are at it again. This is why respect in trading has gone out the window with a lot of clubs the last few years. Port following in the Cats footsteps. Eagles need to get tough with a few clubs and if a player of ours leaves not just accept anything. Rioli needs to be 2nd round pick or Kangas will pick him up in the PSD.

Usually the PSD doesn't happen but I think we are about to see a few players end up there frustrated over the coming years with how some clubs are behaving. Cats are disgraceful to deal with and I'm glad someone's finally called them out on it.

The AFL should lean on the Cats to trade 7 to GWS for 15 and 19. Then 18 and 19 are used for trades for Bruhn and Henry.

So in essence the Bowes deal also lands them Bruhn and Henry plus they get a 3 pick upgrade in round 1.

An outstanding result for the Cats and fair exchanges for Bruhn and Henry.

The Bowes + Pick 7 should never be released to any club but instead back to AFL. AFL then should find a way to auction this pick 7 and Bowes.
Any helps to struggling clubs were done as one off by the AFL. Any releases like the Bowes and Brodie cases should also be handled as one off by the AFL.

Is Houston a fair trade for Rioli?

The hard thing for us, if we are going to start asking for or trying to trade in players, is going to be convincing the player to come to a club that is at the bottom of the ladder. Assuming they are already getting a regular game where they are then we will probably have to offer significant overs in terms of money to get players to want to come at the moment.
Houston would be a far better player on the list. I would do a straight swap without thinking, so we would have to throw something back to make that a fair trade.

I reckon Houston is a very reliable and quality player

Port ... And all clubs really... need to understand list needs and if you have a hole, you need to give something up where you have a surplus. Or can just continue to be campaigners

Surely rhinos tweets serve a more accurate reflection of the club's thoughts seeing that he is a west Aussie journo with good club relations.

I would believe that the deal is still being discussed and thrashed out and that we won't say yes to it in it's original form. Which is kind of what Ryan Daniels said.

But it is so far away from being a good deal IMO that no fiddling at the margins will make it palatable.

It is hard to imagine it moving from where it was as originally stated to a place where we would think we got a good deal. It makes me nervous that we are even still negotiating it.

I think that is why it makes sense as part of the 3-way trade for pick #2.

Houston is worth more than Rioli

Pick 2 is worth more than 8 + F1st

I'm not sure either club would be over the moon about it - but it seems relatively fair.

It's the piece that comes back to us (or currently isn't coming back to us) that is the issue.

Rioli + 2 - we are happy to give up

8 + F1st - we are happy to receive as compensation for pick 2, although it is not quite enough

The issue is when Rioli is added, and the deal is already unders, something (or someone) of value needs to be added back. At the end of the day if it is a pick it is probably around 20... maybe 24 or 25 even (around fair for Rioli - albeit we want more - but then we are accepting 'points value' for pick 2 which is unders unless you are a northern club).

If neither club is over the moon about it, that generally means it’s a fair and equitable deal.

The only way this trade works is if port ad a decent player to us along with 8 & F1…anything less and they can…

Without Rioli, I could see potentially an extra pick being added to 8 + F1 to get it over the line.

But then what happens to the Rioli trade (as if he walks to the PSD and Port get him for nothing, why on earth would or should we make the trade for pick 2 - essentially screwing ourselves out of someone of value).

And I think this is what Port are failing to grasp - it is a massive risk to us to treat the 2 deals separately. Clearly detrimental to our interests. They are the buyer in both cases, in one case we probably have to sell at some stage (Rioli) but the other asset is ours to do with as we wish - so if we decide both must be purchased together that is our right.

Another Power young gun raised in JHF talks

Xavier Duursma has no interest in leaving Port Adelaide as the Power, West Coast and North Melbourne continue their discussions over a proposed three-way trade involving Jason Horne-Francis.
The young gun was raised in trade discussions to help break the deadlock, according to News Corp.
But the 22-year-old, who only managed 11 games this year, doesn’t want to leave the club.
North Melbourne still want a player in return if they are to part with Horne-Francis, while the Eagles are also eyeing a player if they are to part with pick No.2.

The reply will be like this

And that’s where it will end 🤝🏽

The Kelly ruing was a abomination. Should have got more for Hickey then we got, the fact we lost assets for Witherden rather then gained assets given it was a salary dump is another fail. The fact we ever wanted Zac Langdon was a dail

Fact we gotta go back 9 years to Yeo to talk successes despite many trades since speaks volumes

If Port want JHF and Rioli, they’re going to have to come to the party. Picks alone isn’t going to do it, they need a player to go.

Bargain, ill take it, no givebacks mirrors all around infinity plus infinity
