I'd rather have kept 2, even just cause it's pretty fun to have a high draft pick.

I'm also very vocally not a draft guy, but after listening all year to how even the top of this draft is etc etc - it might be alright.

F2 for Rioli is correct. 8, 12 and F3 (irrelevant) for 2 seems unders. Even the most generous person wouldn't say it's overs, which is what you'd want trading out of the top two.

But I just find it really hard to care. They're random numbers on a spreadsheet until we turn them into talent, and once they're out there kicking goals or missing tackles it's all just posturing. They're still our two best picks in a decade.

The difference between the same kid going in the first round or in the second round is how well he did in some games against other kids, might have had a bad maths test the day before or broken up with his girlfriend via Snapchat - it's all a bit irrelevant.

Am I stoked with the deal? No. Is the sky falling? Nah.

Precautionary folding of the club might be the best option just in case though.
It’s just a typical WC trade. All the leverage, walk out with an unders deal. How?

The trade in isolation isn’t the problem, the more worrying thing is these idiots running the show are supposed to be in charge of our long term rebuild and if they’re openly being “the fair nice guys” at the trade table when we’re in the strongest position and then playing it safe with lesser talent in the draft just because they’re local then we are well and truly f*cked for a long time.

Other clubs will continue to take advantage of our soft approach and stay 2 steps ahead. Can guarantee we won’t end up with both Hewett and Ginbey and we’ll be scrambling on draft night because we thought it was a certainty and someone jumped us

A bit hard to take but I can accept that the club has two players at 8 and 12 that they would rather over anyone who would require pick 2. Ashcroft really seems like the only absolutely sure thing - would we really want to take a chance on our S&C team getting Wardlaw right?

Won't know the full balance until we know what Port's future picks end up being. Probably the difference between a win or loss.

Bird in the hand etc etc.

You’re assuming clubs will be looking to offer big overs to trade up a small amount on draft day. What if they’re not?
Seems this is a moot point now but...

If they are not- we have pick 2. And if our recruiting team thinks that Ginbey is still the 3rd best talent in the drat then they pick him with pick 2. We still get who we want.

All this posturing about paying overs or reaching is really quite silly. That assumes that the player we pick is a known entity and we know his exact value- when we dont, nobody does. Sure there are elite talents like Daicos who anyone could see will be an absolute gun, but there are plenty of players picked lower in the draft that turn out to be the best player in that draft. At the end of the day, its how the player turns out after a few years that will determine if a pick was a reach or a steal or on the money.

My first thought on the mega deal is the Eagles have decided on a player and know that the clubs with the first 7 picks won’t select him. My biggest fear is that Geelong will get pick 7 from Gold Coast and pick the player we want.

It’s fine.

Even if they do pick the guy we want, they’ll trade him back to us in a couple of years and won’t be massive pricks about it.

Yes, but this way we get Ginbey and pick 12.

Your way we get Ginbey and possibly another first round pick, or just Ginbey.

We're deffo taking Ginbey with Pick 8, and if Geelong don't pick Jedd Busslinger after their skipper name dropped him after the Grand Final, I'll be stunned.

Shocking trade. North get 2 top 3 picks as well as another 1st rounder for pick 1 essentially.

WC should have got Port 2023 1st rounder and North the 2nd rounder.

Disgraceful
For Pick 1 and for last year's Pick 1.

Not sure North are the ones walking away happy from this deal, I'd say their end of it is the worst.

All aboard the Death ride Port's 2023 bandwagon

As much fun as it was this year, unfortunately the trades we just agreed to made them a stronger team. Aside from losing pick 2, I just don't see the wisdom in helping them get JHF when at best we moved sideways.

NO!

Pick 12 is worthless. I’d be surprised if we even use it.

We should have drafted the guy we want at pick 3, even if he was going to be available later.

:drunk:

Dude I think we will get them as the other clubs do not rate them
