Rioli will tear it up at a top 4 club.
The only reason he hasn't done much with us is because we are s**t house and hardly have it in the forward line.
His a creative forward. Can't create if the the ball rarely gets in there.

If we trade him to North, Hawks, Port
Won't be much different for him then playing for us as those clubs are all equally s**t. Maybe Port might help him get it more since they are doing a tad better but at 28 next year can't see him doing too much for any of those clubs either.

In saying that it's a pick close to low 20s for him. We have to get a return. Can't have other clubs poaching our players expecting us to bend over everytime.
North will be much improved next year under clarko.they have some talent. Port too have more talent than us. Rioli woyld definitely help those 2 clubs be successful

It would absolutely s**t me if North get free picks for being s**t and use one of them to poach one of our most talented players. We finished second last, equal last on wins. Priority picks aren't there to make the s**t clubs weaker.

Would you prefer they got no PP and they poached him for nothing with pick 1 in the PSD.

Nah, didnt think so. ;)

A lot of people quite happy to trade the most talented player on our list.

Surely keep it simple and try keep the good players right?
That's a simplistic way of thinking about things. Only keeping good players and trading weak players means you have no currency to trade in anything good. Furthermore, people often want to keep players when they are at their highest value and trade them when they are at their weakest. Most players have form fluctuations. The trick is to trade the ones who aren't good enough when they are at their peak, and hold (or delist) when they are at their weakest. Imagine if we traded Priddis and Gaff at their highest points?

Rioli is slightly different. He's one of the few players on our list who has value. He has value because he is classy and has X-factor. Despite his form being poor, other clubs know what he can do. That's why multiple clubs are looking at him. He's 28 and he's not a player you build a team around. He should not only be traded if the right offer comes, but he's also talking to other clubs. The only tangible future benefit he has is FS qualification. Other than that it is 3 years maybe playing well that provides limited input to our next flag.

Take mid 20s pick. High chance it's a dud, but the more picks we have, the more chances of guessing the right undervalued player.

I'd take a pick in the 20s. They should try and work a 3 way trade though. We get Robertson, Port or North get Junior, Brisbane get the pick / picks. IMO peak Rioli is better than Robertson but we need Robertson more.

So now thats Waterman and Rioli who apparently would go well in top 4 sides.. anyone else on our list that people can name that would. Just screams front runner…
Meanwhile looks like list management is still screwed. Why you would give nic nat 2 years is beyond me unless theres a lose 10 kg clause attached.. if he could get two years somewhere else shake hands and let him go… he should be one year only from hear on in .

Are there any of our players you don’t actively hate?

Still haven’t found one.

I thought the club rule was if you were over 30 it was only 1 year contracts

If it’s Port I would have it a guess it’s their Amon compo pick.

If it’s North, they play nice and hit it for nothing and it’s their PP.

Word on the street his missus wants out of Perth, hopefully he goes where we can get the most out of a trade but realistically speaking he's not worth much, sitting two years out of footy, was (imo) average this season and is 27.

ep, you honestly seem like a lovely bloke, but you got a rumour hit rate worse than Hagdorn.

Bruhn is an ex Geelong Falcon kid. Doubt he has any interest in moving to Perth when he has a bunch of Melbourne clubs to choose from.

Bruhn grew up in Perth, but he wants to move back to Victoria it seems

If Rioli walks to the PSD. Now that would be dirty.

All this talk of Tanner Bruhn leaving and we haven’t been mentioned once. Surely we have had to convo with him and his manager.
Bruhn wants back to Melbourne.

Kid majorly cracked the sads when he was drafted interstate.

Well that throws a spanner in the works for us if we were planing on trading pick 2 for multiple later rnd one picks.

North now wanting to do the same for pick 1.

Unlike North we haven't yet come out and said that we would though. Just rumours on our end.

I hope that it's two years because they're paying him less than they would with a one year contract (so spreading it for the salary cap). I'm not confident he'll even get through next year, given his injury history.

Does west coast eagles have a war chest?

Assumption is we don’t but nobody would know for sure.

Nisbett said in that Ryan Daniel puff interview that our cap is fine and we could afford Luke Jackson for example. It was an answer that went unchallenged

I’ve always held the opinion that it’s a dumb idea for clubs to advertise they’ve got a war chest as it signals to player managers there’s room to chase bigger contracts

You don’t start bartering with someone by showing them how much money you have to spend - they’ll ask for all of it

I think this is overrated,

I have no doubt most clubs (excluding a few that are right at the top / stacked with stars) could open up $800k without too much trouble in any given year.

An example of this is not signing up Nelson, Witho. Imagine they'd be combining for at least $500k - $600k, replace them with two rookies on $100k ($200k total), and you're half way to $800k.

Also seems a lot of times teams that advertise the war chest actually don’t end up with anything at all

Is it a stretch that any of our forwards would do better playing with atop 4 midfield kicking it to them?

Everyone accepts our midfield has been an issue for years. So why wouldnt they be better with a quality midfield feeding them? Its pretty obvious.

And 2 years for Nic is strange. Especially when he has admitted he wont move interstste and will play as long as the club keeps offering him a contract. The only way it makes sense is he gets less per year plus there is a cheap payout clauseif he gets injured and needs to retire.
