Weren't you alluding to that when you said
"But the coach must intervene. I don't for a second believe a pro S&C team would happily agree to players being in that shape. So someone stopped them from doing their job"?
If the players are unfit/have skinfolds, then the coach must intervene. He's the one whose getting paid to get on field results. He must ask the S+C team why this is happening and demand better fitness levels.

Do you think a professional S+C would let players be unfit? There is almost no chance people who have a gig at an elite sporting club would be that incompetent.

So how did it happen? (please provide your opinion on this)

My guess: Simmo or someone in the coaching ranks gave the players far too much autonomy meaning the S&C staff would have been undermined.

My guess is, that any S&C professional would not be taking orders from a coach or assistant coach to the detriment of the player.

So why have so many players been unfit over the past 3 years?

Option 1: The S&C team are completely incompetent. You'd presume they all had to have sound resumes to get a job at WCEFC, but for some unbeknown reason lost all their skills and knowledge

Option 2: The players were given too much autonomy by someone which undermined the S&C team from getting the results that got them the job in the first place

And if you think if any head AFL coach approached the S&C team and said, "hey, these players have skinfolds and aren't fit" the S&C team wouldn't make efforts to improve, then you are delusional. But I think we both know that this never would have happened (Simmo approaching them).

Ass coach.....tee hee 🫢

What is it you don't understand about Simmo being on a results based contract?

ps why do you always have to carry on like an absolute knob?

Because you consistently post absolute bollocks, and I don’t have the self restraint to stop myself from pointing out absolute bollocks when I see it.

Rioli to NM for their priority pick (19)

Must be an echo in here! 😀

North better not get a start of first priority pick. If that's what you all thought I meant. Then jam it you bunch of Kents.

I should have more credit than that by now 🙊🙉🙈...And no, I don't drink Wild Boars mid week, especially during the day 😉

I'd offer Melbourne our 2023 first for Luke Jackson. That will probably be a a top 5 pick and greater than Fremantle can offer. We'd have to match what Freo were offering but I'd only offer him 5 years and load it with incentives to earn more, like top 3 BnF finishes. Maybe back end 2 years too until Nic, Gov, Yeo and Darlings deals are off the books. Plus the players don't know how much the cap is going up in the next rights deal and may want the flexibility NBA style.

He fits our rebuild timeline perfectly. I think he's more of a Forward / Ruck type as he's not a big bodied Ruck like Darcy, Draper and much shorter than Gawn obviously. But with his athleticism and the space of Optus he'd be a real asset.

But he doesn't want to go to WC does he?

Thing is, we can talk about the worrying lack of ability in our strength and conditioning team until we are blue in the face, but ultimately the buck stops with standards and accountability, which to me should start with people like Simpson and Nesbit

Imagine the shockwaves if Nic Nat presents himself in the same way for the coming pre-season and Simpson takes him to task: "Nic, you are too heavy, and you are banished from the main squad until you reduce your skinfolds and drop 5kgs"

The whole squad would be like "F*CK.........!!"

Ditto selection: "Andrew Gaff, you have put in some poor defensive efforts in the past few weeks and we are sending you back to the WAFL to work on some things"

It would only have to happen a few times for the team to get a jolt and for the message to get through: We at the Eagles have high standards which you a required to meet. Seniority, credits and the bank and past reputations no longer hold any weight

Ironically, Simpson did do exactly that to Gov and it saved his career. The problem is, he hasn't done it since. Maybe that is because Gov is a "senior player" now.....

At a board level, Nesbit should be taking the Strength and Condition and Medical teams to task. Put the acid of them. Come our and say that our levels of player availability and poor conditioning wont be tolerated next season and as such jobs are on the line. Don't use "tenure" and "stability" as reason to continually tolerate poor performance and everyone who has been at the club for a while goes on with no worries in the world

Standards start at the top, and its high time that we create some, and more importantly, enforce them. Universally, across the board from the top to the bottom of this football club

The longer he waits the more likely he will leave (Rioli) , he has ties in S.A and Victoria as well. Maybe we could trade pick 20 + Rioli for Ports first pick #8 and a swap of later picks. Port will likely get a trade for K.Amon meaning they will still have a decent first rounder anyway.

One part of the machine is clearly broken (ok, there's other as well!).It's either that part (the S&C team) is incompetent, or something is stopping then from being effective (not unusual in a medium or bigger organisation). Our first trial game next season will be when we know if it's still broken. Given the position we are in, I expect media reports to say many players are the "fittest they've ever been". And I'm hoping anyone not towing the line is playing Beagles.
