I was thinking this, if we took two mids and two small forwards I wouldn't be unhappy.

It would mean we would have to be locked in on a tall in the RD. Which, depending on who it is/was may end up a bit of a reach (but that tends to be OK in the RD... not so much in the main draft).

I still think we are almost certain to take a tall with one of our 4 picks (I'm assuming we take 4, then hold a spot over for a SSP player). Busslinger possibly at our 1st, I don't think there would be any at our 2nd (assuming Buss is gone regardless of whether we take him or someone else - and the other KPP's are pretty even with mids so surely we prioritise mids).

20 +26 (or whatever they end up as) look like they are in the prime spot for 1-2 KPP/ruck players who may be slightly higher rated sliding through. It's probably why I hope we go small at 8/12 so we can then grab a tall with one of the later picks for a balanced draft. Worst scenario is having Buss + someone else, then a Barnett or Keeler on the board at say 20 - potentially getting 2 talls with our first 3 picks.

We are into Hugh Davies from claremont and so are Fremantle.

Heard we have spoken to him a few times this year .

26 is a reach but having nothing between that and the rookie draft I think he would be gone .

Looks like a very good prospect and someone I would be happy to trade one of our late future picks to get back into the draft for

Surely if we were, it would be late to rookie for him. Jefferson tore him a new one in the champs, kicked 7 on him. He's ok, and did improve over the champs, but seems a few rungs below on the Key position talent level.

Tore him a new one is a bit harsh .

2 x goals bullet passes no one is stopping
1 × goal from 50m penalty not Davies fault
1 × goal in the square Davies not even on him at the time
1 × goal from forward 50 ruck infringement not Davies
1x goal when jefferson took a hanger on him .
The goal over the back is definitely on Davies

Jefferson had a day out it happens sometimes but you can't blame it entirely on Davies

Trading our future 4th for a late 40s pick would be OK . Freo are into him aswell apparently. Don't think he lasts to the rookie draft

Think tore him a new one seemed about right after viewing that.

Take 5, SSP spot will be opened up by one of our 10 long term injuries.

A draftee (likely late, in a shallow draft) gets 2 years minimum.

A SSP player can be offered a 1 year contract (after training with us for something like up to a month). If we get a LTI then sure we can take 2 x SSP players.

Unless there is someone we feel must be taken before the RD as they aren't making it through my preference is to leave the spot open.

Hollands at 8 … surely not? but who knows what the Pieman will pull off

Ginbey
Allan
Burnett
Hewitt

Can't wait for the big day to roll around.

Then there is the DVA's with possible choices Narkle and Frederick. I am sure the Dorkers will love us picking up Allan and Frederick.

Yep me too. Teams with genuine specialist crumbing small forwards tend to do well (Stengle, Papley, C.Cameron, Pickett, us with Rioli :'(). Gee it's annoying Jarrod Cameron's head wasn't in it.

Ryan isn't your typical crumber, I kind of see him closer to LeCras/Fritsch than crumbing types.

That being said we should hopefully nab Dewar as a cat B. For the draft experts who watch more than just highlights - who presents as the best specialist crumber in this draft? Jones sounds a bit like Winder in that he's maybe a better mid than other mid/fwds and has a more rounded skillset but may be too light on to make it as an AFL mid and isn't really a small forward.

Want us to draft for the position we're going to play them in, stick to that and focus on the attributes required for that position

Best crumber is a tough, I'd probably say Sheezel and Charlie Clarke. Can kick goals out of nothing, Sheezel can spin on a dime. Clarke can to but can also rove the contest at pace, gather and goal.
Phillipou when playing forward can also kick goals where you think how the heck did that just happen.

Late in the year, I thought Hagan played small fwd particularly well...

I have absolutely no issue with Hurn playing on, but with still no official confirmation that he’s signed an extension, I won’t deny a part of me is hoping he pulls a Redden and decides to quietly ride off into the sunset.

With the way the club is with official confirmations I reckon we'll just have to wait and see if Hurn rocks up to training or not.

With Guv, Barrass, Cole and Duggan as starting defenders, that is a pretty decent start to senior leaders around whoever we add to the defence (eg Bazzo, Jones, Hough, Chesser, etc. If Yeo is going to play HBF, then even less need for Hurn. I don't wish to be disrespectful to a premiership captain but I don't see him changing his style.

I hope he has had a great time with his family back in the Barossa and realises he is better off checking out. It might be a different response if I thought we were competing for a top 8 position but we are so far from that right now.

If we draft Ginbey, I see him starting in defence. My suspicion is that Hurn will not play WAFL as he was Simmo's flag winning captain so has the most credits in the bank (to be fair he was rightfully selected in 2022)
