Silly kents having a silly argument over rookies. Whether it's Winder, Trew or one or two randoms in a weak af draft, who gives a shite.
With that kind of attitude we would never have drafted Cox, Priddis or McGovern.
If we keep Winder and/or Trew it's one less spot on the the list for someone who might be able to improve the team.
Because I think it's obvious neither of them are up to it, move them on and try someone else

Hope we take a 5th pick, even if it’s trading 20 back a few spots and bringing 65 or whatever forward a bit, fair talent still around. Suspect we’re odds on for the Burgiel/K Smith combo, would be pretty surprised if we didn’t add a tall to the mix.

I really like the idea that a poster suggested earlier (not sure who it was so can't tag them, but this is definitely plagarised) - Take George, with the plan to put him on the LTI list and we can take a 5th pick in the draft, plus 2 rookies (possibly one being Trew or Winder) plus a SSP or mid-season-draft player.

Then we have George waiting in the wings for 2024 once he has had a full recovery (not dissimilar to what we've had with Chesser but not by choice).
Yeh ok, so only one person in the world thinks like this hey. If you look at my history you'll see I acknowledge posts I agree with. Wrote this having my morning coffee, so what if it's similar. Every second friggin post in here is a version of another's from another day.

My issue with Winder and Trew is, that even if we let them go and they have a good year in the WAFL, will they demand to be picked? Imagine they'd still be available as a rookie pick option next year if they do stay injury free and play well. There's little to no risk to let them go and try someone else (ideally a tall, that's who the rookie list should be for, talls that take longer to develop).

Yeah keen for Cox and McGovern with our two rookie picks.

Chad Fletcher and Pridda the back up plan.

They just said they support them and it would be cool to go there, with Wardlaw and Sheezel - at least Essendon and Hawthorn actually have a pick in that area

Ginbey saying his dream to play for Fremantle is just weird when he’s likely to be picked up by us and knows he has a zero % chance to get to Fremantle. I’d completely understand if he said he supported Freo and what not, but this was just a weird thing to say on the eve of the draft

Wouldn’t this be a red flag for GCS or any interstate team ?

Got a feeling we won't use our 5th pick.

ND vs RD selection, difference is worth a fair bit of coin. Probs 50k off the top of my head.

Our 5th Selection would be one of the very last in the ND, and we have the 2nd pick of the RD so very high chance you'll get the same player anyway, if you're keen.

Plus side to that is we'd be saving a list spot for the mid year draft, I believe?
Yeah, draft will be pretty weak by our last pick and with our pick being 2nd in the RD we will wait until then. 1 year contract and less money!

Unless Kaleb Smith is still there.

I think we may bid on davey from essendon with our next pick first
We have to, force their hand to take him and knock their pick out to bring our 4th selection closer. If they don't match, we get a really nice half forward who I think can play straight away but think they'd match.

Um, sure....

Sometimes (often) I am grumpy before I've finished my first coffee for the day so I understand (I'm guessing that is what was going on, otherwise I definitely missed the point of your post).

I just like the idea of taking George (as you say, I'm not alone or unique in any way with that opinion) as he is a talent, and it has the convenient benefit attached that he then allows us to take Narkle or similar via SSP.

Just looked at the points and unfortunately whatever happens (bid at GWS's pick or ours) it means the leftover points slot the bombers in before our 5th.

But yeah, assuming we keep our picks as is it is an absolute no brainer to bid on Davey (as long as we get the right twin...!). Fills a position of need for us, is rated around this level, and when he is matched (surely) it takes one more pick in the free draft off the board between our 2 x 2nds.

lol.
What is going on here champ?

That is why it’s left field. He had a great 2021 and struggled this year.

Lemmey is not who I want but the noise is out there.

We do seem to be in a similar position for round 2 that we were for round 1:

i.e. having 2 relatively early picks, we really need one sure thing (as close as possible, obviously drafting is part art, part science) and can also take 1 riskier pick.

Ginbey (risk as a mid to an extent) and Hewett (looks likely to have a decent career) fit that bill.

So someone like Lemmey, or Keeler, or George would all be fine - but the other pick needs to be safer (Clarke, Cowan etc).

Going back to ROB's interview after the draft, essentially when he bristled at the suggestion Hewett had behavioral issues. He went on to say they do extensive background and interviews with all the draftees, so choices are obviously made already. Nothing ground breaking of course, but somewhat reassuring that if we were to choose Lemmey then we've not doubt done the hard yards and think whatever his issues are can be overcome or adequately managed whilst on our list.
