Between Ginbey, Culley and Hewitt those kids might be good from anywhere to 20-30 tackles combined per game

Which is a marked improvement from the heyday of Gaff, Masten and Sheed who might be good for 20-30 tackles combined........in a season

Beagles midfield will be at full strength. Potentially Culley, Clark, Ginbey, Chesser, Hewett and XON. Expect they will all be in the AFL team at some stage but a chance the season might start that way.

He was so convinced he was going to either Hawks or the Bombers going by his interview with Cal over the weekend lol

The kids getting actual midfield minutes is important. The idea of Culley. Hewett, Ginbey lining up against Dunkley, Neale and McLugggage does not fill me with joy though.

The majority of the minutes will/should still be taken up by Yeo. Shuey, Sheed, Kelly. Importantly probably two of them plus a kid.

Importantly we now have options. We don't have to flog the older guys with all their minutes in the middle, we can play them forward/back for periods and pro-long their legs.
So you saying we have options apart from gaff at the centre bounce ?

???

Busslinger said during the week he was expecting to have to move interstate since Freo had no early picks and West Coast didn’t need key backs. Then he made basically the same comments after he got drafted and said he was happy to be going to the Bulldogs and play in the “home of football”.

Jones just seemed shocked to be taken that high.

The guy that looked most disappointed was Wardlaw having to go to North.
Wasn’t just Wardlaw but the whole family seemed generally unhappy when his name was read out. Hardly a smile between the lot of them.

Definitely think we look at trading pick 29 to get another pick in the second round next year and a later pick this year, 3 2nd rounders next year will hopefully become another 1st round draft pick

He’s a max Essendon fan, so I think when North took Sheezel first he might’ve had a glimmer of hope he’d get to Essendons pick lmao

So we now have a contingent of young bulls with big bodies that we can play together so they learn to gel as a unit

Culley::whitecheck:
Ginbey: :whitecheck:
Hewitt::whitecheck:

On paper, this look highly promising

The next question is whether Simpson is prepared to ditch seniority and his credits in the bank selection policy so we can develop these kids where they need to be developed: On the ball

That would mean for example, a guy like potentially Shuey, should be either playing on the half forward flank, or, starting on the bench to give these kids precedence to develop

This should not mean that Simpson plays these kids on the half forward flank whilst giving Shuey precedence until he retires

O'Brien has done his bit here. Now its over to the coach
There's going to have to be a balance. If we put all three on ball they will get smashed and learn nothing. I suspect Ginbey will play HBF and rotate on ball, Hewitt same for HFF. Culley maybe the same. They've already said Chesser will start on the wing.

Cmon mate. Behave.

Well he did say he wanted to stay in Victoria. Playing for the Tasmanian Kangaroos in a freezing cold Hobart probably wasn't top of his wish list.

Dons could have made a decent offer to North for pick 3 as well if they really wanted superfan Wardlaw.

He knew he was being drafted by North though, he revealed it himself in an interview.

Its literally 2deg on average all winter colder than Melbourne.

You really think you can tell the difference between 12 and 14 deg whilst playing a game of AFL?!

Good.

Hopefully more and more player managers start to realise that pushing the go-home (or stay-home) agenda doesn't always mean these kids end up in a better place...

Clarko has a big job to turn that club around (assuming he is still coaching there in a month...)

We have the 2nd pick (23) on day 2 of the draft plus pick 29 and we’re linked to a sum total of one player on this list (Burgiel) and by their own admission that’s likely to be pick 29

By contrast, GWS are linked to 4 players which is understandable since they have the first pick. Collingwood, however, are linked to 7 despite holding 28 and 30 when most are likely to be gone.

Adelaide and Melbourne who don’t have picks in this range crack a link or two each on the basis they may try to trade up
