There is a reason why number 17 was not on offer this year - it is being held for Daniel Curtain. He is destined for blue and yellow. Christchurch, Claremont and …. West Coast.

Eastcoasteagle Monocle and I are working on tutoring Daniel on how to stay in WA. Some useful responses to recruiters

- my idol is Jackson. He got drafted interstate and it only took 2 years fu(k over Melbourne and get home

- I have a strong preference to stay in Perth. That is why I have purchased a house in Perth and will only rent interstate on a short term lease.

- I have had a number of mental health challenges but my therapist tells me weekly face to face sessions with my mom will help me

- I’m glad the AFLPA have only required us to sign off for 2 years as the initial contract

You get the flavour? He will slide to our pick

Curtin is a very West Coast type pick, but I’d want to see him excel in a singular role so I know what type of player we are drafting before spending a likely top 5 pick on him, he’s definitely tracking very well though.

Harley Reid is still the prize however.

We are not likely to finish 18th. Hawks look the front runners

We have the chance to get Tholstrup and Curtain.

Make it happen

Do you realise that it's the lifestyle AWAY from the big cities as the reason so many players are happy to play in Geelong for less??
Heard an interview with Hawkins where he said he can drive from his farm to training in less than half an hour.....name me another AFL team where that is possible!!

I have lived in plenty of parts of Australia and living in Tassie shits all over the rest of them for lifestyle, space, food, cleanliness, and best of all, less peole that think that having more nightclub options makes a city better!!!

I'll give you an idea.....I have my kids every Sunday. We have gone fishing (and caught fish), driven up the mountain and played in the snow and then gone indoor rock climbing, all in one day with less than 90min total driving!!!

Tassie will have zero issue attracting players as, despite what all you mainlanders think, not everyone wants to live in a shitty apartment complex or in a street of mcmansions that all look the same!!

This is the worst take on what attracts people to urban life I’ve seen in years. Well done.

Or he might feel some creepy Swinging Dicks are trying to control him and go interstate...not to Victoria if ECE is involved, though.
\Curtains for the WCE BF boys club then....& for the bsMods anyway

I think Hawks will be a little better than some are anticipating, but I agree that we won’t be 18th.

Just take the best player available.

If it’s a key forward I wouldn’t write off Archer Reid either very early days but he looks a good prospect (201cm already) and is a Country Vic boy who plays for Gippsland.

If you are divorced with kids, and presumably middle aged, then it is a fair chance that what appeals to you in terms of lifestyle will be significantly different than what appeals to a twenty something AFL player with cash to burn. When i was in my early 20's it was all about girls and social life. I think that is what most AFL players will be prioritising too, at least until their late 20's. Plus, if you going to get up to dodgy behaviour in nightclubs etc, as many of them do, it is much easier to fly under the radar and get away with that without too many tongues wagging and rumours circulating about you in a big city as opposed to a small one.

There are a fair few top end prospects for next year, this year was solid but pretty even in the top 8 or so, next year I think will have a much stronger first 5 or so standout guys.

Yet ask half the Geelong players why they play there for less $$ than anywhere else!!

We have over 800 players in the AFL, not all of them are going to be kids that want a city lifestyle.
We often here about a new draftee loving to surf, how often can you do that playing for Essendon compared to playing for Geelong, WC, Freo or GC.

25 years ago, Tassie had a shocking retention rate of its young people who would leave to study at uni and never come back.
Now that is far less an issue.

I think you'll find that the dodgy nightclub life happens a lot less for young AFL players nowadays as they realise they simply can't get away with it!

Would you mind explaining why?

All well and good to try and shit on someone's opinion (which by the way has been formed by actually doing the stuff in the topic) but unless you can give a reason why my take is bad or give an alternate opinion, your take is far, far worse than mine.

Can Curtin go forward? Moir and Duursma also look exciting as forwards but would need to add at least 10cm to be key position.
