A couple of times, including once at a work conference. Was stunned when people were explaining to me the next day what I’d done. I was bloody lucky I was just a bit stupid and a little bit obnoxious, and didn’t do anything that put my job in jeopardy.

Pretty out of character for me to get in that state, even when I was younger, but that wouldn’t have saved my job.

Not excusing what winder did but we all uk up and way more so when we're young.

Thing is, pertaining to Winder;

It's one thing if you are a well established player, with the runs on the board, that has done something out of character whilst drunk, we have all been there

But it's quite another when you are barely getting a game despite us having no available players, we throw you a lifeline and you stay on the list by the skin of your teeth, you are representing the club at an indigenous summit no less, and how do you repay the faith? Get absolutely hammered and commit a violent, illegal act

Nelson not getting another contract is more to due with the fact he's a known quantity, and let's face it he's nothing more than ordinary list depth.
The Hip-e club incident had nothing to do with him getting more time in the AFL.

By far my strangest for me was waking up next to a swimming pool across the Rd from the holy Rosary church in nedys, had a fake(plastic) ball and chain on my ankle and a huge fiberglass cast (head to just fwd of the pectoral fins)of a great white shark next to me.
Had been at a party in Subi the night before, NFI how I ended up next to someone's pool and never found out either, mates had all got into a similar state of drunkenness so no one had any answers!
Pretty sure there was more than alcohol involved though

It looks like McGovern's management is planting stories in the media already to try and put pressure on the eagles and pump up McGovern's price in the contract negotiations. The article talks has quotes about how much the McGovern brothers would love to play together for the same team and how settled Mitch is at Carlton and how much Michael Voss loves him, thus implying that if they were to play together it would be via Jeremy McGovern joining Carlton.

McGovern's manager (Colin Young) is notorious for doing this kind of stuff and planting articles in the media either bigging up the player, creating a facade of massive interest from rival clubs or suggesting that the player has strong non - monetary reasons for possibly leaving their current club, and thus pressure clubs during contract negotiations with players he manages. In fact he does it so much that he negates any possible impact the tactic could have as clubs would know the stories are being planted by Young.

It will be interesting to see what value the free market puts on McGovern. I don't think he is worth anywhere near a million plus a year. But he has a pretty healthy ego, has been being paid that much for quite a while and no doubt expects that level of remuneration to continue. Maybe i am wrong and somebody will pay it to him.
