No harm in sending Oscar Allen in for surgery/rest instead of strapping every single inch of him up.
McGovern could have been put in cotton wool after (dislocating?) his shoulder.
Play Trew and Chesser for full games.

FFS North already retired 2 of their best players a couple of weeks ago and no one bats an eyelid.
Absolutely, one or both don't play and we would've lost yesterday.
And it would have been legitimate reasons not to play them.

I'm going to ask people a pretty simple question. The past is the past and it all comes down to your own belief.

Assuming all stays the same and as a club we are 5 goals down in the first quarter of the 2018 grand final do people think the result would have been the same if we hadn't beaten port in the elimination final the year before? Do you think the players have that belief? I don't, as a matter of fact I think without that win the club wouldn't have gotten near a grand final in 2018.

Tough wins in big games build belief in a group of players. Tough wins, particularly away from home build belief in young players.

Here is something for people to take note of outside of the industry. Almost every quality AFL player going around has come from a club and junior background where they are used to winning, b&f after b&f, being absolute stars and being told they can do anything. Then they arriWve at AFL level and have to play against seasoned men and what do you know, all of a sudden you're the little fish in the big pond. Sure with high enough talent levels the really top end picks barring major injuries almost all end up at least decent players. However talent only takes you so far, if players get to the point where they either think it's too tough, are forever losing or worse think they can't make it then all the talent in the world won't save them let alone have them become potential top 5 in the league players. For some even high end talents the seasoned men on their own team can seem like being at a level they just can't compete with.

How many people here would have Jack Martin, Jake Stringer or Jordan De Goey in their best 5 players in the league? At absolute worst I'd have all 3 in the top 10 most talented in the league.
The 2017 port win was 100% the catalyst to build belief that we had something. No doubt.

Tom Morris reporting on SEN this morning West Coast have put a 4 year deal in front of Deven Robertson, Lions have a 2 year deal in front of him.

It's another concern for Yeo. Did a hammy on the weekend. Unbelievably injury prone.

Seems we going for some more deja vu with our older players. Gov just got through by the thinnest of margins. Looked hurt on multiple occasions.
Reckon the way Yeo is going next season will be his last too.
Yeop, BC simmo continues to make him play in the midfield.

I've said it all year long, he is no longer capable to play 100minutes week in week out as an inside mid.

He needs to go down in defence full time next year.

After seeing Hewitt play a few games, I'm not that bothered about not getting Reid. We already have an explosive mid now that just needs to get some games under him. Someone like McKercher would be fine.

Reid is Petracca like.

Winning was/is a shiteshow.

Cripps, Yeo and McGovern were huge in this win... players we need to replace and Reid would have checked one of these off.

Shambles.

That game we won vs essendon last year really spring boarded us from 2 wins in 2022 to 3 wins in 2023 .

Things are not the same .

The list profile in 2017 vs 2023 is completely different

Lol when has Reid ever informed us of that? That was shut down by US, Reid’s management and Reid’s coach.
I literally said it might be a bunch of fluff, but when that info is coming out of his camp via his uncle, there's likely something there. Top end draft picks with the hype that Reid has behind them have never as much power.

I have a counter argument to the argument being pushed on this thread that this win has magical properties attached to it in terms of inspiring the players on our list for years to come and that supersedes the loss of draft position in importance. I think that an additional big negative from todays win, in addition to the loss of draft position, is that it is going to provide ammunition to the people running the club to argue for continuing on with their minimal change agenda and will likely result in us spinning our wheels in the mud for another 12 months with only superficial changes being made at the club and only for the sake of optics, i.e. assistant coaches and and the fitness coach.

Nisbett and co seem to believe in an inevitable magical reversion to the mean. That we will become strong, successfull and perennially competitive again because that is what we have been for most of our existence. They are ignoring the reality that a lot of the advantages that we used to have such as having more money to spend on the best quality staff/systems and more staff are now gone due to the soft cap. We were able to defy gravity in the past and be successfull despite not having access to high draft picks because of these advantages. Thats now gone. But they have not processed that yet.

They are also in denial and still believing their own bull**** about how bad the state of our list is, how bad their drafting has been, how bad the list management has been with ridiculous contracts being given out, how bad our high performance department has been. Watch them carefully and what they say. It is very clear that they still think everybody else is wrong and they are right. They are not going to publicly argue their case on that because the results are so awful that they would be laughed out of town if they tried. And they know that. But they definately do not accept the consensus and almost unanimous industry opinion about how incompetent they have been and how far standards have slipped. They really do believe their basket of excuses including Covid and injuries. I think if the Nisbett faction wins the day the only changes will be cosmetic and will only be being made for the purposes of looking like they are doing something and trying to deflect some of the criticism. And this win today greatly helps the Nisbett faction remain in control for another 12 months.

In many ways we are like an alcaholic waiting to hit rock bottom before he accepts reality and changes his ways. Todays win might be like a trampoline that prevents us from hitting rock bottom for another 12 months.
Another poor element of yesterdays win was having to listen to the theme song again. It just plainly sucks and is another example of how arrogant they are to foist that upon the supporters without any consultation.

Really blame the Dogs for this TBH. What were the odds for us to win before the game? 17/1 or something stupid? Dogs playing for finals and us coming off a hundred point thumping. No one thought we would win this game. Once the momentum started the Dogs should have been able to stop it, they didn’t.
At that point you can’t tell players to stop. So the Dogs are s**t and we get the pick we get.
16/1. Got on it 5mins before bounce down whilst sitting in the stands!

Those drinking the Harley Reid Gatorade are losing their minds.

It is a cult like belief he is Superman.

I loved the win yesterday. It showed something bigger than just one talented kid. PASSION.

They played for each other and more importantly played for their coach who has taken so, so many bullets for this squad this year.

The Dev Roberston talk is exactly what I was hoping for.

Now need to add a couple more of his ilk and the No 2 kid.................

Yep, 50% extra wins for the season. Win next week and it'll be 100%.

Keep that up for a few seasons and we'll go undefeated.
