On the 7-30 report last night Andrews was asked about why Victoria used private contractors instead of law enforcement for managing the quarantine hotel. He just weasled his way out of it by saying "other people did this too".

I suspect the ongoing issues his government has with corruption and incompetence are seriously affecting decision making. He won't now force people to take tests citing civil liberties, therefore completely missing the point. This is getting much worse before it gets better.
Should have used medical staff or army instead of the idiots they did use

Yeah the sex thing is completely understandable to anybody involved in the process who has half an inkling of human psychology.

I as a 20 something female was in a room by myself with several relatively muscular dudes just standing outside my door 24 hours a day, as my only human contact for two whole weeks. I mean personally I have a partner and even if I didn't that kind of thing isn't for me but the thought totally crossed my mind a couple of times, especially at 3am when I couldn't sleep and I would peek out the door and see some guy just standing there staring at his phone looking bored af.

Absolutely no surprise that this happened and the fact that it apparently never crossed the minds of authorities just shows, as with the testing shambles, how sloppily the entire processed has been handled.

If I was Tom Morris I would say that Dogs North Essendon join Collingwood and Cats in Perth. Richmond Dees Carlton Saints and Hawks go to NSW for a couple weeks and play each other, then move to SA.
All the while Port and Crows finish two more weeks in QLD and move back to SA, as the same with Eagle and Freo.
Brissy GC GWS and Sydney go wherever.

Caro mentioned last night that Queensland looks an option for a hard quarantine like WA, in that the Vic teams can go their and play each other under quarantine. That gets a few weeks out the way and a chance for us to play Brisbane, Sydney/GWS before heading home for stint in SA playing Vic teams who are then deemed 'clean'.

There are now reports that residents from Melbourne's hotspot areas tried to change the address on their driver’s licence, hoping to get around lockdown restrictions.

Victoria yes. Most selfish ****ing state in Australia.

Security: You're not allowed to leave your room

Quaran-Tina: But I'm bored

Security - Wanna root?

Quaran-Tina - Ok

pr0n directors: quick write that down!

Problem with that solution would be them returning to Queensland and then needing to isolate for 14 days after. Perhaps the suns should return some of the goodwill of priority Draft picks etc by boycotting this rounds game 😉
I was more thinking along the lines that they could convince the Queensland government to give them an exemption based on them avoiding Melbourne and the problem areas.

Similar to how on the radio this morning SA is considering allowing people from towns closer to the border to have a mini-travel bubble, while Melbournites are still blocked from entering without quarantining.

Different States have handled the quarantine differently...

I heard a man who was quarantined in Brisbane interviewed on the ABC. He said the only people they saw in Queensland were Qld Police officers except for the occasional food service staff.

The Victorians should have used the ADF or State Police to enforce the quarantine. Private security has no sense of discipline, no chain of command and little accountability as has been shown.

As with the bushfires there are 40,000 personnel in the ADF and we do not want to use them instead Andrews used a bunch of night club bouncers.

Things are about to get real bad for Victoria. This is only the start of it. We have just been informed that all of our VIC based staff who tour to other states are now no longer exempt. Even though we have government exemption letters as we are in the emergency rescue industry, they are still not going to do anything. If the AFL want to setup hubs, they need to get these players out ASAP.

They don't though. The AFL only seems the season salvageable if Victorian clubs don't have to go to hubs.

MCG and Marvel playing their Vic clubs to play there is quickly going down the drain.
Hate to see WC getting richer off Optus though.
Hope our SA GOV ALLOWS A HUB HERE. IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE.

So How does this happen...

Two men, who both spent two weeks in hotel quarantine in Melbourne, have tested positive for coronavirus after returning home to New South Wales and the Northern Territory.

About 50 staff at Woolworths in Balmain are in isolation after a man who works in the self-checkout returned a positive COVID-19 test.
The man flew into Melbourne from Bangladesh on June 11th and developed symptoms while in hotel quarantine.
He then flew into Sydney after being cleared of the virus and worked two shifts at Woolworths' Balmain store.

So how does someone show symptoms while in quarantine get cleared then test positive when they move out of Victoria? I thought the Madam X situation was a one off but apparently not. Two more negative tests in Victorian quarantine that turn out positive in another State or Territory. There is something really suspicious about Victorian hotel quarantine atm.

The critical thing about today's figures from Victoria is the 31 community transmissions. That is indicative of the amount of virus in the Melbourne community albeit in designated hot spots. That is Victoria's highest level of community transmission in a single day since the crisis began and when coupled with yesterday's 20 it makes 51 community transmissions in two days.

When I come home from work atm I have to stay in a Darwin hotel for a night due to minimal flights. All of their isolation security are Indian. Same as security at Darwin airport. They are just using the cheapest labour they can find. Shits me no end
I went over to watch the team play Freo in Perth last year and 9 out of every 10 security at Optus Oval were Indian... not that there's anything necessarily wrong with that, but did seem very curious and it stood out like the proverbial.

Some dude in Victoria with symptoms, gets tested, but then gets on a train to NSW.... Gladys up in arms.. Well, this is why you close your border to bloody Victoria love.

I reckon there is something wrong with it. Diversity doesn't mean one ethnic group taking over whole professions. The security at Darwin airport would have to be the worst of all Oz airports. 10 guys scanning 2 or 3 flights and it takes 20 mins to get through. They're not being hired because they are the best suited applicant.

The guys at the hotel gaurding the Iso's hardley moved from their chair or looked up from their phone.

The ABC seeking out the most attractive, urbane looking Victorian they can find in Mt Gambier.

'Elise goes into SA for medical supplies, but says she'd rather drink cats piss than one of the coffee's on offer over the border...'
"Yuck!" said a visibly repulsed Elise. 'I just want to get in, grab my medical supplies, and be back home in time to watch The Drum..."

They'd literally be ready to go with a stock photo of some mullet wearing South Australians chewing some pea straw.

TBH honest, I reckon the reason for private security can only be corruption. It only makes sense to use police or ADF. But that whole state reaks of corruption, from the Andrews mob to the AFL

Over 300,000 people are in lockdown in Vic hot-spots. A proportion of that population will do the wrong thing. Warnings of fines etc won't be enough to deter some.

Even if it's a small proportion that still leaves enough people that could cause the outbreak to get worse in Vic, and even cause outbreaks in NSW.

We're already seeing examples. There was a report this morning that thousands of Victorians are driving to the NSW along the Hume highway. You'd think some would be from the hotspots.

The ****in idiots wont budge on 20th July for NSW, so we wont have a hub until clubs are returning to Victoria from Perth, so probably Rd 10 onward.

If Vic teams go and hub in Sydney and/or SE Qld for both Rds 6 and 7 (Sunday 19th), the government should allow Vic teams from there to fly in for Rds 8 and 9 to play both SA teams but that is no guarantee at this stage.

I wonder if Gladys will stop Vic teams hubbing it up in Sydney - out at Olympic Park and Wollongong as suggested the last 24 hours. If she says no that will really **** thing ups and we definitely wont play at AO until Rd 10.

We have hit 8,000 cases.

I wrote in the Part 1 thread if Oz could do a South Korea and go from doubling cases every 2 then 3 then 4 days and do what South Korea did, ie they went from doubling from 2,000 cases on 28th February to 4,000 cases on 1st March and 8,000 on 13 March, we would be doing well as they had superior tracing and a heavier testing regime to us at that stage.

They hit 12,000 on 17th June so a 50% increase over 3 months.

We hit 2,000 on 24th March to 4,000 on 30th March, so it then has taken more than 3 months to double. Hopefully we only add another 4,000 over another 3 months or more like South Korea.

Deaths for South Korea 1st March 22, 13th March 72, 17th June 280. Only 2 more deaths since then
Deaths for Australia 30th March 18, 6th April 36, 21st April 72, 17th June 103. Only 1 more death since then.
